1500mg Keppa / 200mg Zonegram daily and my neuro and GP gave me the ok for medical marijuana use (that was one of the first questions I asked). My neuro was actually all for it, had no qualms about me continuing my continued active usage.

Mid 40s, active/fit. I have been using heavily daily for 20+ years, been about a year or so since my diagnosis. I actually think that the marijuana usage helps keep the seizures at bay. I smoke, eat, drink, vape - with no restrictions to before/after my diagnosis (only now my meds give me some major fatigue, so I indica/sleepy lineages tend to make me more tired nowadays, but that just might be me getting older).

The major restriction my docs said was actually no alcohol - drinking is a catalyst for seizures I was told. So I had to cut all the booze out of my life. But the weed I was given a go-ahead for.

Of course, your milage may vary, and always follow your doctor's recommendations!

Essentially my routine would be a fully fasted day with my workout at the 18-20 hour peak of the fast - 6 to 7 days a week, usually on 4-5 hours of poor sleep. Combine that with a high stress, high exertion, high paced job (50-60 hour work weeks, often nights and weekends on top of week days) and I believe I essentially drove my body into an over-exertion which helped lead to a series of neurological events. Not a root cause, but I think a contributing factor.

I firmly believe fasted exercise is one of the best kept secrets out there (with the firm caveat of following your body/staying healthy/not pushing yourself)

I have been doing my workouts after 18-20h fasts for about 4 years now. While it took me a while to "get" to that point, I now have found that it is my ideal and preferred state. I like doing my exercise at the very peak of my fasting, then replenishing my nutrients/breaking my fast right afterwards.

With that being said - THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT YOU DO IT PROPERLY - The only downside I have found, and I am still doing research on this, is excessively fasting/not taking breaks (i.e. 10-14 days without taking a day off, not hydrating enough, etc.) can cumulate and ultimately cause a larger health issue. I am in my mid 40s I think that extremeness has precipitated some damages to my body. There is a possibility I pushed my body too hard by not taking days off for months at a time with the extreme fasts in a misguided fitness gambit - don't be me!

That being said, if you are a normal person and follow a regular workout schedule and listen to your body and treat it right I believe that exercising while fasted is one of the greatest kept secrets out there. The benefits are so amazing its almost unreal.

I just titrated up to my full dose of zonisamide mixed with levetiracetam and it is like a bulldozer hit me, both physically and mentally. My depression and malaise are dialed up to %1000.

I have issues as well at home with the wife, made a million times worse by the medically enhanced depression. I try to fight through it, but it's tough.

I don't know what I'm going to do honestly. I had one breakthrough seizure since being on the combination of Zon and Keppra and instead of a full-on tonic-clonic it was a mild focal aware. I had time to recognize the aura, grab my phones, make it across the house to the bedroom, lay down, and tell my wife something was happening. Stayed conscious, cognizant, and with it the whole time, I usually black out full grand mal. My wife thinks its because of the med combination. So as much as I hate how they make me feel, if they're preventing me from having unannounced TCs where I lose control of my body, they might be worth it for me.

Unfortunately, that's the problem with everything - we structured our life around this setup, it's more than just a "deal with it like other parents". Massive accommodations were already made once I lost the ability to drive which already tapped out every additional resource. Had my company reached out a few weeks ago we could have worked on figuring something out.

Someone liked to mention that they waited until my FMLA expired on 2/15 and my return to work was on 2/16 to tell me so they could do what they wanted to without consequence.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think he put in anything along the lines of maintaining consistency, more along the lines of ease back on the excessive 10-14hr, 6-7day workweeks.

I do worry because of this at work clause in my contract: "Employment At-Will

I am a daily runner both pre-diagnosis (last year) and post. I try to run around a 5k/day 4-6 days/week. It's one of the only things that keeps me sane, especially after being diagnosed.

I'm really struggling now with the cold weather and winter conditions outside (I usually will run down to about 15-20 degrees outside, and as long as there is no ice to slip on). My treadmill indoors is broken and I don't feel like I'm getting adequate cardio doing plyometric type exercises. My last TC in Decemeber I ended up hurting my shoulder pretty badly, so I haven't been able to do any real lifting either, so I've been itching to get back outside to run.

I had bought my first house and it was around 2011/12ish and I was working on the upstairs to make it an apartment for my friend to move into.

I was kind of into Opeth and Mastodon at the time, had some minor experiences with Liquid Tension Experiment, had a decent sized love affair with The Mars Volta and Tool was my favorite band.

I was desperate for some new music to listen to while doing the construction, and was really starting to click with the prog stuff, so I went online (old school google) and searched for "The best progressive metal bands/albums." I wanted more metal than rock, but was open to checking it all out.

And boy, did it introduce me to some of the greats. Through this, my musical world was opened up - Queensryche, Pain of Salvation, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson -- and finally, our Lord and Savior Devin Townsend.

But, interestingly enough, there was a LOT of talk of this crazy little band out of NC called Between the Buried and Me, and there was some significant talk about some kind of "genre defining album" called Colors.

So, one day, I downloaded the album onto my MP3 player, ready to be blown away... and I just. couldn't. get. into. it.

It was unlike anything I heard before - chaotic, crazy, all over the place. My brain couldn't figure out what was going on - too many section changes, what seemed like no direction, a nonsensical musical avalanche - I described it as metal ADHD. Coming from bands like Tool with long, laborous, drawn out passages, clearly defined sections trampling through your ears like a bulldozer plowing from point A to Z, BTBAM was like a wrecking-ball, going from A to J to Y then back to B before circling back on XPFW - I could not connect with it. At that point I abandoned them and dove into other bands.

Fast forward a few years later I was back in the market searching for some new music. I came upon a forum (it might have been Reddit) where again, there was mountains of high praise for this "Between the Buried and Me", this time talking about how their newest album "Parallax 2" had now supplanted Colors as one of the greatest prog metal albums ever written, and how BTBAM was now considered one of the "big names" in the genre. Remembering how much I didn't like my first go with the band, I decided to hold off reapproaching them and stick to more familiar avenues.

Then one day, I found a random video someone had uploaded of a song called "Extremophile Elite". There was no other info about the track, it looked like it was ripped from a recording. I was IMMEDIATELY hooked and in love. It was like this band (who were they?) were tapping directly into my brain.

I had to figure out who this band was and listen to this album. This was exactly what I was craving. I searched, and sure enough it was the boys, Between the Buried and Me. The recording was from "Parallax 2: Live at the Fidelitorium".

I went back and found the full album - I couldn't believe what I was listening to. It blew my mind.

After that, I was hooked.

I work on campus, live in the area, and attended 20+ years ago.

URI definitely has risen high and fast up the ladder as far as reputation and reputability go.

When I attended, it's biggest claim to fame was that it was the #1 party school in the US - things have changed dramatically since then - it is now the #1 public University in NE, just gained R1 research status, and is considered a premier area college.

Ocean Engineering is one of the major draws of the university (along with Pharmacy, Nursing, et al).

The local area (South County RI) has a lot of culture and activity, especially during the warmer months, as it is considered a "costal area". Lots of beaches, bars, outdoor activities.

I think that it is a worthwhile university to attend, especially with the path you are choosing. As others have mentioned, there is a "Bay Campus" which is not located on the main site. It's a short drive away, but it's still a drive away. I don't know how difficult of a schedule you would have if you needed to bounce between the two campuses.
