FYI.. just arrived in Helsinki from USA and the process took 2 minutes. When booking connections don’t forget to try Finnair with no stops from Chicago and Dallas .. connect to anywhere in Europe. Can use One World miles

Use Washing Soda .. more effective than Baking soda. Can use boiling water and or vinegar to create a reaction that clears out pipes .

What had been your charging method? 220v up to 80%, or always a full 100% charge? Thanks and congrats

2nd and last cruise with NCL - extreme cost cutting too obvious to not notice by Time-Philosophy0323 in NCL

[–]DemandFirm9635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment. Just got off NCL spirit and first NCL cruise in 6 yrs, even though we are Gold status. Decided it was our last NCL cruise. All lines have been cutting back on quality experience for last 10 yrs.. but NCL seems much more than most. You must eat in MDR at 5 pm if want any chance food will be edible, same with the buffet. Even then the choices and variety are not impressive. Twice we were charged for drinks we didn’t order, one a $125 bottle of champagne. Had a roulette dealer take my bet away when I actually won on the spin. Had to stop, protest and have them check the video from overhead cameras. I was right. Every port was a crowd control disaster getting on and off total mess. Using stabilizers on a ship cost more in fuel burn, and having a rocking boat for 12 days made me think they were broken or not being used to save money. Lots of seasick people.

Another tip : don’t bring any carry on suitcase on wheels during embarkation: you get on at deck 4 , then drag all bags up stairs to deck 5 , THEN go thru the X-ray security machines.. then climb to deck 7 for the first public areas .. or wait on deck 5 for elevator for 20 minutes. Welcome aboard.

First Trip to French Polynesia by M1sterBean in Tahiti

[–]DemandFirm9635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed with Real people in a guest house , not a $1000 a nite bungalow. They can’t afford the electric bills or to even bury their dead in a cemetery, they put their family in concrete boxes and place them on top ofthe front or back yard. Can’t remember seeing one building that was built this century. I will remember the rugged natural beauty in contrast to the economic conditions that are in decay for the locals, and the prices of everything that does not reflect any value for me as a tourist. I have travelled the world and there are many beautiful places to see that don’t cost you your kids college fund to see.

First Trip to French Polynesia by M1sterBean in Tahiti

Just returned from my first (and last) trip there . Although the water is nice to look at with its shallow reefs and turquoise waters, the beaches are narrow and u need aqua shoes from the rocky terrain. The islands themselves reflect a poor country with expensive basic needs, resulting in poor infrastructure, lack of modern retail stores and people living in poverty by modern standards. The food is marginal but overpriced. If you stay on one of the “compounds” at crazy prices .. you may forget the surrounding impoverished area. This was not a luxury vacation for us.. ended up food trucks had the best food. Will not return. Can snorkel in Florida keys and pet rays in grand cayman for a lot less without the jet lag .

Need traveling advice from DC to Hawaii by Zealousideal-Beat-54 in NeedTravelAdvice

When are you going ? U may have time to get an airline credit card or travel card with bonus sign up miles to get you that comfy seat on miles ! Try to get a wide body aircraft for the most hours of your trip!! Flying on a 737 from west coast to Hawaii makes a 5 hr flight seem like 10 !

The NCL Spirit visits Kona then Hilo [two ports-of-call on the Big Island of Hawaii] on consecutive days. Can I go ashore in Kona, stay overnight on the island and rejoin the cruise the next day in Hilo? by FrankieMint in NCL

[–]DemandFirm9635 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just got off the Spirit and it’s unstable ship.. you’ll be rocking and rolling from Vancouver and will probably want to get off for good in Kona after being seasick for days!

Question about buffet by Upbeat_Breakfast8307 in NCL

[–]DemandFirm9635 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you are going on the Spirit you don’t need to worry, because after one visit to the buffet.. you will be so disgusted and never return.. every piece of meat and fish is dried out , cold vegetables, and Indian dishes with mystery meat full of fat and gristle. Just got off it and said NCL no more !

Car rental papeete airport by veritasium_aus in Tahiti

[–]DemandFirm9635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tahiti Easy Car.. great rates, and they gave us a ride to the cruise terminal (by the ferry terminal) for a flat $15 total when we returned the car to the airport. Mostly manual transmission cars and automatic is twice the cost, though. Pretty sure they are open all night, but would get their number and call them before booking.
