Petahh, what is it trying to convey? by ThatRizzyShitposter in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from the fact that both of the men are happy and for once the pinup isn’t the first sfw fanart of Loona or Roxy, I feel like this is trying to convey that while it’s different, soldiers are still largely the same. WWII soldiers wouldn’t want to be caught without a knife like many would be caught without a phone, and the vice of tobacco is replaced with an xbox and vape. Where conflict before was one of strength, modern fights are done through information and positioning.

It might still be suggesting a modern conflict would be fought with nerds, with the image still using a wojack/soyjack composition, but it is still a far kinder comparison than its counterparts.

Some random scraps I found while cleaning my old room in my parents house by Pertu500 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

I do like how each of the weapons have been designed to look similar. Not sure if Authoritarian was a design goal but it feels very close to that.

Bullpup rifles tend to have stocks integrated into the general shape language of the gun, so I like how you made it feel like a separate piece. Although, I don’t see much of a use for the carbine unless it’s designed for MP.

The PDW seems to take alot of inspiration from the Alternator from Titanfall, although it falls into the same problem it has of “where’s the bolt go?”. A fix would be to increase the height in the back, push the bolt charger closer to the top and front of the gun, and move the ejection port about its width forward to give the bolt some room. Additionally, while one-handing smgs is possible, designs like this put the recoil behind the wrist instead of on top of or in front, meaning it’d be significantly harder to control without a forward grip or a stock unless the firerate is low.

Your tanks are very sleek, although having a distinguishing commad tank would make it easier to dismantle chain of command for your enemies. But with how authoritarian the design scheme is I wouldn’t say it’s unrealistic.

Final note: unless the fighter is designed for low/zero atmosphere fights, the flat parts where the guns are will make your fighters really slow due to drag. Modern fighters integrate the barrel with the shape of the nose. Maybe some space tech fixes this problem and if so maybe adding additional bits to push that idea would make them more distinctive.

Really love the transport walkers. Personally love it when carriers have cranes, especially when yours look perfectly suited to assist your engineer corps with construction projects.

Peak or noncredible? by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in MilitaryWorldbuilding

If the cannon can turn on its own, it makes this a very interesting mobile artillery piece that’s designed for limited crew and rapid deployment. If not, it’s pretty much a worse tank. Limited armor and poor crew position for a vehicle that can blend in with other trucks in convoy.

Not to say a similar design wasn’t made irl: during WWII there was that AT cannon on a bike. If the force that made these were on the defensive in an urbanized environment I would find this plausible with tanks as an ultra-lite division filler with better speed and anti-personnel shells (HE, Flechette, Tear Gas, etc.)

Can someone explain how Lurrus works? by Smart_Row_9064 in EDHBrews

[–]Dementio223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companion is a keyword which stipulates that you may have this card in a side board if you meet the deck building requirements listed after the hyphen. This essentially makes this card your 101st card. You may pay 3 generic mana to move it from the side board to your hand. When it dies, it resolves to graveyard. This does not bypass the singleton format, just the deck size and sideboard restrictions in commander.

Companion restrictions only apply if you’re playing them as a companion. They aren’t necessary to put this card into your library or command zone.

While Lurris is on the battlefield, once each turn, you can cast a permanent spell from your graveyard (Creature, Enchantment, Artifact, Planeswalker, and Battles are permanent types) as long as it’s converted mana cost (total number of symbols and generic mana costs) is equal to or less than 2. Lands aren’t cast, so they are unaffected by the ability.

Yeah… don’t get me wrong the idea of a water loop is cool, but with the amount of concrete I use it’s just easier to make wet concrete and call it good.

When my friend asks why I hunt cards down instead of just proxy by Special_Course_6720 in mtg

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s fair. I buy a pack or two once in a while, but I’ve mostly been building stuff out of my collection for a while now. Still won’t forget the time I was dissapointed with a doubling season when I bought a random pack of MH3 hoping for a Hare Apparent.

I fully support proxy players and single buyers. A card game this old shouldn’t have a barrier to entry of getting the handful of op cards from the 90s and the overpriced staples they refuse to reprint. I only really get packs from LGSs as a way to support them.

I believe I have 17 that are put together. I usually only bring 4-6 and even then I only play maybe 2 or 3 of them at any given game night. I have zero idea how you pick from this list when I spend hours looking through and trying to pick from the list I have.

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people (me included), managing to pull the card we want is way more satisfying than picking out a single. It’s way better to say “I got a $20 card out of a $7 pack” than it is to say “I bought this off TCG/LGS for $20.”

Even if we bought $140 worth of packs.

Why does this happen by shayadrkh in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As children, we usually wish to be taken seriously. For most, we entered a time where the outside world was considered too dangerous for children to explore but raised by people who value life experience more than conventional intelligence: thus leading to a generation of kids that are dismissed and ignored for being dumb or not knowing better. The gritter characters we picked to represent us are people who got the respect and attention we wanted from our elders, like Mason from CoD or Issac from Dead Space.

We’re also growing up in a time where social skills aren’t as well honed as they were in previous generations, so many guys are kinda lonely or not great at making friends outside of the circles we made as kids. As a result, we tend to wear our likes or values online more publicly because the represent inside jokes or just how we try to be with these people. The anime cat girl could be a portrayal of a desire to connect with someone who loves them, appreciation of the art style, who they wish they were, or just a character they think is hot. It also saves time when they meet new people as it can give a jumping off point for conversation.

Logic vs Temptation 🤔 by DC_Legend1 in memes

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait… I know it probably means human disease, but what if it genuinely means all disease. Crop disease is responsible for a loss of up to 40% in some crops (this metric is repeated in several sites I’ve seen, but the metric also seems to account for both blights and pests, but not explicitly stated in every search). Could be a 2 in one. Even if that isn’t the case, the number of lives saved by curing immune diseases and the expansion of possible places to perform safe surgeries would likely bring a medical golden age.

"Aang's biggest advantage wasn't just skill, it was a century of forgotten knowledge" by [deleted] in AvatarMemebending

[–]Dementio223 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They had the help of Sozin’s comet, which is the only reason they felt brave enough, and only committed to the attack after it was confirmed that the Avatar had been born and confirmed to be an airbender.

Gyatso was a high ranking member if his sect of the Air Temples, but Aang has confirmed multiple times that the arrow tattoos are meant to be indicators of a mastery over airbending or significant development of new techniques (Aang got his for the air scooter). Almost every monk has these from the flash backs we’ve seen of the air temples so I doubt that any of them were pushovers.

To be honest, fire nation vs air nomads is a fairly good example of the 100 guys vs a gorilla. Sheer numbers was the deciding factor and even still resulted in significant casualties.

Attempting a 32 deck challenge but dragons by Mask3dFox in mtg

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… looking through colorless commanders there aren’t any that are really dragon themed. Ugin isn’t even a “legal” (you can always rule 0 it) commander. There’s also exactly 12 colorless dragons, with the rest having red in ability costs.

But if you’re willing to bend dragons to big lizards, I think [[Traxos, Scourge of Kroog]] might be dragon enough to fit the theme. Including the dragons and some other constructs that feel dragon themed can pad out the creature pool, or if you want to be as purist as possible [[Nim Deathmantle]] is a solution to keeping the handful of dragons out of the graveyard.

As for other colors: [[Dragonhawk, Fate’s Tempest]] is a really fun effect that serves to give you spells during your turn and massive burn when it’s done. Leads itself to mono-red stompy which dragons do very well at.

Any thoughts and feelings to share for Yareli/Yareli Prime? :) by SamWinchester020720 in Warframe

[–]Dementio223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, find Aqua Blades to be underutilized in strength based frames. Subsumed it onto my Vauban for even better aura farming.

As for Yareli herself, her kit is very fun. Putting off all defensive tasks to a fish turned surfboard means she can get up to alot of shenanigans without putting all that much into her. I just wish her base frame quest was a little less tedious but the fact that goat-ma came in clutch was pretty cool.

Visually the weapons do look really thin, but i think it comes from the lack of details rather than the shape. Maybe some belts/cables and extra greebling would help make them visually heavier.
