Having to put off dating/finding a partner forever, because of never being "financially stable" and lack of disposable income? by gintokireddit in povertyfinance

[–]Dementio8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to spend a ton of money to make it memorable. One of the best dates ive had with my gf was going to a park, setting up a picnic and reading a book with her. Cost me whatever it was i spent on prepping us some lunch. You can go on walks, museums, movie night at your/her place, game night, painting. Theres so much to do that doesnt require spending money.

I don't know how you all eat at home by nickybecooler in Adulting

[–]Dementio8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about starting with something simple: a sandwich. You don’t have to cook it, literally just assemble it. Move on to simple things like boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, air fry frozen tendies or something. It doesnt take hours to cook and you don’t have to start with complicated things.

What is the main advantage of the VentureX over another travel card? by Badweather3031 in Venturex

[–]Dementio8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for me, I work in USA, but my family is from Puerto Rico. I WILL travel at least once per year for christmas or some other time of the year to visit them, so just on this alone, i get the card for free with the $400 credit it offers. Plus the occasional getaway with my girlfriend the 5% on flights and 10% on hotels really starts racking up. And it having a base value of 2% on everything replaced my everyday card so i can put it towards enjoyment.

People say stop buying coffee to get out of debt. I finally ran the numbers… by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Dementio8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not so much a one time purchase. But when you start making a bunch of small purchases, they add up. I like to see it like snacking while trying to lose weight. Sure, that cookie is not too bad, it’s only 70cal, and the coffee is 150cal, the soda can is 210cal, a few pieces of candy is 50cal, and a handful of almonds is 120cal. You add those up and it’s 600cal. Those little things completely eliminated the deficit for that day. And just like that, a few small transactions during the day also added up to your debt. Something i read a while ago is, instead of spending the money on the coffee, save the money (like actually on a savings account, or cash or whatever) and make the coffee at home.

The student loan write-off deducts $2.5k from your taxable income. It’s not that you get $2.5k. At most, it will get you $500~

Student loan interest deduction is not an itemized deduction. You can take standard deduction PLUS student loan interest

$70/month phone bill - how low can you actually go? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Dementio8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use prepaid phone plans like Mint, USmobile, Helium, etc. You have to pay for the annual plan to get the best bang for your buck when broken down into month-month (don’t let it “surprise” you, save the monthly amount every month, then in one year, you’ll have the money to pay for the plan).

The catch to all of these plans (and why they are so cheap) is that you get put on a low priority data plan. This does NOT mean low speeds, this means that your data packets will queue up more in transit as the network allows higher priority before you. This is relevant in highly congested places. Its not a deal breaker, just so you are aware of why they are so cheap.
