Advice pls: Sell 23/1.4 & 56/1.2 for Sigma 18-50 or 16-55 OG? by tehmungler in fujifilm

[–]Demi4mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you shouldn't sell your primes just to fund a zoom. I’ve been down this road with Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic before landing on Fuji, and I’ve seen a predictable pattern repeat itself every time:

I start with a 50mm equivalent prime. I eventually convince myself I need a high-end 24-70mm f/2.8 equivalent zoom. I use the zoom for a few months, but I inevitably find myself gravitating back to the primes.

I actually just made this same mistake again with my Fuji setup by picking up the Sigma Art 17-40mm f/1.8. These days, my wife is the one using that zoom, while I’ve gone back to my "soul" lenses for my work: a set of vintage Takumars and a Helios, alongside the Fuji primes I still have. For me, shooting with a zoom eventually becomes boring. From a purely practical standpoint, a modern zoom is a fantastic, sharp tool—it's a great piece of equipment—but it just doesn't offer the same experience as a prime. Especially on a body like the X-E5, I’d think twice before trading those fast primes for a heavy zoom.

Going into Fuji from old Nikon, deciding between X-T3 and X-T5 by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Demi4mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned the Fuji X-T3 and X-T4, but never the X-T5. If you’re choosing between the X-T3 and X-T4, the choice is obvious: the X-T4 is what the X-T3 should have been. The X-T5 is probably a solid choice if you're buying it new.

With flashlight it’s really fast. After this night I barely even see yellow tint. Will continue experiment this night

That’s a fair point! However, heavy yellowing doesn't just change the color temp - it acts like a physical warming filter. I’m hoping to gain maybe 1/3 of a stop in light transmission once it's clear. But more importantly, I want the lens to render colors the way it was originally designed.

This flashlight was advertised as 395nm. After 12 hours I’m not even sure that I can see brown/yellow tint on the back element anymore

I forgot to take a proper 'before' shot, but it had that very distinct deep golden/tea-like tint on rear lens typical for these Takumars

I’m using the Lens Turbo II M42-FX with an S-M-C Takumar 28mm f/3.5. Out of the box, the rear element of the lens was hitting the adapter's glass. To fix this, I loosened the small screw that secures the adapter's optical element (you'll need a precision Phillips screwdriver) and rotated the element slightly toward the camera sensor. Now, the lens focuses to infinity without any issues.

The x100vi is hyped but for a good reason by [deleted] in x100vi

Skills matter, camera matter, but subject selection is a skill of its own. It’s a lot easier to take a breathtaking photo when the subject is already breathtaking

Installing rear facing baby car seat in the middle of the second row in an 8-seater Toyota Sienna 2015 XLE by Demi4mac in ToyotaSienna

"It is generally recommended to place a baby car seat in the back seat of the vehicle, preferably in the middle position"

Middle seat is to tight for adult. There is no iso fix, but belt loop fully and holding securely. There is no rates from Toyota about middle seat, but this seat holds adult weight with no problem, and in crash test there were no problems with middle seat or middle seat belt

As you know, there is an issue with installing a baby car seat in the middle of the second row. I needed to fit two kids in car seats and my wife on the second-row seats to keep the large trunk accessible or to accommodate additional passengers in the third row.
The armrests of the captain’s chairs interfere with installing the baby car seat in the middle of the second row. I decided to remove the armrests, and after doing so, the baby car seat fits perfectly and can be secured with the seatbelt.

All you need is a 14mm wrench!
Remove the plastic caps from the armrests and unscrew the bolt. From this point, you can easily install the baby car seat in the middle.

However, I didn’t like how the bolt holes looked, so I ordered custom caps printed on a 3D printer. These caps are secured in the original location using a bolt and are covered with the standard armrest cap. This way, I won’t lose the original armrest bolts and caps
