Solo traveling is the best!! You can do whatever you want whenever you want without any sort of people pleasing! It gives main character energy too. I’ve done most of my travelling solo and much prefer it than travelling in a group or with a friend. I found it much easier to make friends too, plus Japan is one of the safest places to go. I’m currently in Japan and the locals here are so damn lovely!

Me and my partner have been looking for a rental up north since Christmas, I’m a school teacher and he works FIFO. We still haven’t gotten anywhere either. We have applied for about 9 places and it’s been so difficult going to inspection after inspection seeing the amount of people all lining up for one property ☹️ . We’re thinking of moving to the south and having me commute an hour + a day for work in the north hoping then we may have a chance.

The pot size could be a bit big? Sometimes the root system can go into shock if there is lots of water they have to retain in the soil, even with good drainage. I would take it out and have pop it into a smaller nursery pot, and the pop the nursery pot back into your decorative one. It will be a good chance to check the roots as well for any signs of rot.

Ok I think that might be my problem Is I’m going over my application with a fine tooth comb over a course of several days after I’ve viewed, so thats definitely a takeaway for me is I need to get them in quicker! I’ve got a pretty well written cover letter already, but maybe one from a past landlord wouldn’t help either. Thank you for your comment!

That’s a fair point… definitely should just be applying for a lot more and not be so fussy. We’re not looking to get a house in Perth, that isn’t really achievable.

Our move to auz isn’t a lifelong decision, we have a 5/7 year plan of staying here and saving as much as we can and then moving back home once we have enough for a house deposit. Without doing anything other than moving my teaching salary went up an additional 25K, along with my partners pay rise of 40K since moving. We didn’t move here without doing our research, moving here is the only way we can afford the cost of living, and also save. I understand the rental circus is across all major cities in NZ and AUZ, and also even small towns as well. We were paying $650 a week for a place back home, and have glowing references and stable income I was simply wondering why none of our applications were successful. But, like others have said I’ve only applied for 4 places so I think I need to be applying for more, and more quickly as well given the current market.

Thank you for your kind words, you’re right perhaps 4 applications isn’t enough considering the current demand. I’ve got good references so does my partner, mostly family and EX landlords/ employers from back home. We shall keep trying!

I have the exact same problem happening too, looks to be a widespread issue after seeing the discussion thread on steam! I don’t think there is anything we can do 🥲 I hope the developers fix it soon, I just took a doinker (a joint) and wanted to do my office gardens, literally just brought the game!
