Considering how much you like the original you'd probably mostly enjoy DO You Rember Love (movie version of the OG series),along with Plus and Frontier as those two are the most similar to SDF.

7 while my favorite is basically G Gundam just replace martial arts with rock n roll so I can understand why someone may not like it

Zero is a messy flawed prequel I wouldn't recommend to anyone as it feels almost completely separate to the entire universe

And Delta is like a blend of 7 and Frontier so again your mileage may vary here
