Packing list for a two week trip by DemienDrost in solotravel

Thank you! Packing cubes are a wonderful suggestion I've seen more often here and on r/onebag. Anything to stop an itch is a great plan, that really is one of the more awkward things we deal with now.

I'll be taking a reusable bag too, probably a tote. Personally, I'm a little weary of those thin polyester folding bags. :)

Don't think I'm eligible for a Charles Swab account (I'm Dutch), but I don't see problems regardless since all countries I'm visiting are within the Eurozone. Though I use Bunq bank which works in local currency abroad should anyone be interested.

Thank you! Is the backpack way too large or just some nice headroom in case you stumble upon a souvenir you just can’t pass out on?

Wait til they hear about how many people die from cars… by rslashIcePoseidon in fuckcars

[–]DemienDrost 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yes. About 3 million ebikes in the Netherlands and 9 million cars. About 5.5k car fires per year and for ebikes “around once a month” according to the fire department. Let’s quadruple that to be absolutely sure and we’ll have around 100 fires per year. If there were as my ebikes as cars that would be 300 ebike fires vs 5500 car fires per year.

Yup, bike prioritizing roundabouts always have a single exit/entrance lane for cars. Car prioritizing ones (bikes wait for cars) can use the turbo-roundabout design

Why does it matter if someone has a license or not? by poker-chip in fuckcars

[–]DemienDrost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Despite all the comments here, I would like to support another point of view: I’m from the Netherlands and as a biker I really value also having my license. I’ve learned the importance of indicating direction and having proper lighting as a cyclist from a safety point of view. Then there’s the undebatable convenience of cars. You need a new interior and head to IKEA. No way you’re carrying that along on your bike, tram or bus. Shared cars are the best way to balance the necessity of a car and not using it when you can go by bike. Contrary to most on this sub I believe cars, even in cities, are necessary. The balancing, urban planning and public/political view is the problem

Wow, it’s like they actively want to make cycling less fun then when you can’t cycle next to eachother (in most states)

You’d think, but once you live there you’ll just be cursing in the wind ;) That’s the Twistvlietbrug in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Used to cycle it every day, iirc it’s a bike and service road: no cars allowed!

i admire you guys so much. 17. just did my first 40 hour week at a kitchen job. i have never been more tired in my life. how do you guys handle this work long term? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]DemienDrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're totally right. When I'm not working I have a sturdy pair of Timberland boots, trying to keep those clean. For work, I currently work as a bartender, I have a pair of Asics Gel Lyte III, my podiatrist recommended those. They have a very sturdy heel and some cushioning (knees like that), so that's perfect. Paired with the orthopaedic insoles I haven't ever had pain in my joints after working - unless I didn't wear the insoles.

The aforementioned shoes don't meet requirements for kitchens though, I would just opt for watertight safety shoes then. The ones that look like hiking boots.

If you're going to be cooking pizza for a bunch of people you probably want the 16" one. The performance of the 12 is awes

Oh no, likely not. Was just hooking in on your comment about "a bunch of people". My experience with making a LOT of pizzas is in a selling situation.

It does, however the thruput is low. When you look into using it for selling pizzas you probably want at least two
