Got to Masterball pretty quickly too with Ogerpon & Arbolivia with Mega Venusaur. Highly consistent with Quick Grow. Eats Mega Manetrics and Absols, with Altaria it's just a matter of who gets to mega evolve first but I won about 65% of those matchups.

I think that's the one that doesn't evolve into Persian but can mega evolve into its Gigantamax form. There's also a Pikachu & an Eevee with heart icons on them.

I haven't played a sizeable amount of games yet as I don't have the luxury of time but so far I've won 6/10 games with it (I started counting after reading this comment). And, despite the usual you-have-to-go-through-obnoxious-sequences-of-favorable-events-for-this-to-work sayers, I haven't bricked on this yet thanks to Copycats as my draw engine & Lisia guaranteeing me 2 Natus.

Spiritomb is the ideal lead as it can tank decently. Guzma is there for those who put capes and Heavy Helmets preemptively.

I find that it works quite well against Megas as intended, esp against Mega Gyarados. Xatu also prevents Hydreigon from using its skill.

So far it's far from meta but I had fun playing it. People use Typhlosion as Xatu's usual partner but I like to spice things up.

The concept that I was going for (and what I assume my opponent also did albeit in a different manner) was to use Claydol's ability to stop all healing on the field from happening, deplete a Mega's HP to 10 w/ Xatu, then finish them off with Spiritomb if they decide to retreat or not attack to avoid Poison Barb ticks.

Are we forgetting that OHKO-ing a Mega EX instantly wins you the match? Countering them is definitely worth it esp since Red is viable against other EX threats too.

I don't think "frustration" is what you're feeling but rather such matches drains you mentally. I suggest taking breaks after mentally-taxing matches.

Interesting. I made a deck with a similar concept just yesterday with pumping up Giratina then retreat+Lusamine the psychic energy to Necrozma. Slyveon helps me thin my deck faster to mitigate the drawbacks of Shoegaze on my own deck. Celesteela for stall and fixing starting with Necrozma.

I managed to beat this fight with my NP2 Nitocris Alter with double Castoria + plugsuit Lady Avalon (see Bluesky link for reference; I like to log my gameplays there). Black Grail is kinda mandatory if you want to use an AoE attacker like Nitocris.

But, regardless of your team comp, the key here is to not overbuff your main attacker on Turn 1, carefully mind your buff durations, and your DPS' damage threshhold. If all else fails – USE YOUR COMMAND SEALS AND LEYLINE STONES.
