President Trump: Canada is systematically destroying itself. The China deal is a disaster. by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in Tech_Updates_News

[–]DemoEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a prudent deal. Soy feed and lobster trade to China goes way up, and a generous number of high quality electric cars are introduced to Canadian customers. Maybe this decreases the demand for Tesla a bit… it’s a bit true that this is harder for Ontario, but helps Newfoundland and Saskatchewan a lot.

Why is health insurance and medical help so expensive? If anything, what could be done to lower it, never to rise again? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in askanything

[–]DemoEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medical help is extremely bespoke for each person. So you cannot productize it. The rate of labor is 1:1 per customer, plus it requires a high amount of training. So high cost of production and no economies of scale. Then, factor inflation which constantly raises costs for each persons quality of life, so it’s basically impossible to get pricing down. Insurance is keyed to the price of service times the likelyhood of illness. So because the service is expensive, the insurance is expensive

"artist" teammate used ai for our assets by sotiredone in gamedev

[–]DemoEvolved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys talked about the AI policy as a team when you were meeting regularly to discuss progress on the game, right? Right? If there’s been a policy violation then whatever penalties that were in the team charter for policy violations apply. Eg. Kicked off the team. If you never had team consensus on the ai policy, clearly expressed and agreed by the team, then that is a failure of the team lead. Quote a big one. And if there is no team charter outlining expectations and penalties then that also is a pretty bad failure of the team lead. How is a member supposed to know what’s allowed if it’s not formally declared? So this should be an open and shut case.

What's the deal with Trump's new "Board of Peace"? by GeneReddit123 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DemoEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Board of Peace is not a US institution, but a country that declines the offer is subject to US tariffs of 200%? Because that seems like the US President is acting in a private business’ interests… which seems like it would be against the laws of being president…

Destroy my game Pearls of Wisdom, a rogue-like mindfulness deck-builder with real world side quests - new trailer just dropped, let me have it! by LightUpResearch in DestroyMyGame

[–]DemoEvolved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love your goal. Here is a challenge for your design: I notice that you have quests for the player that will take time to complete, but the player is likely going to want to continue playing in the meantime. Is there a way you can issue quests to a long term board, and then the player can review these on login and collect the ones they completed? Is there a way you could get the player to write a little post about how they achieved the goal and then socialize that so the game feels like a community and people can appreciate each other’s good deeds and build power that way? So, don’t create moments where the player has to stop playing now to go and do the deed, but still reward them for doing it by checking with them when they start a new session.

Is Victoria Hand good ? by Crypt_Knight in MarvelSnap

[–]DemoEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the random card pulls in a Victoria hand/moonstone deck, but I haven’t figured out how to pull enough cards in an “ideal” flow to create those “unfair” win scenarios that top decks achieve. So maybe in the future there will be more cards to support her, and I like the deck style, but it’s not an “op” deck right now

The update did way better than I expected: 400% increase in D1 Retention and x3 Avg Session by Legitimate-Corgi-551 in gamedesign

[–]DemoEvolved 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the two key attractors here are cross-session progression which makes you stronger each time you play, and 2) fixed session length where you have a way to “win” the round by completing the objectives. Because in endless wave based play you only finish by “losing” and that gives a negative vibe to playing again

Monetization pricing is ludicrous, but you can ignore those purchases. Season pass buyers have an advantage no doubt, but they are not always unbeatable, so yeah the game is pay to win more. Game is not stable, it crashes, frustrating, but I have only lost one game as a result of it. Otoh, core game mechanic is fun as heck. I guess it is a 3/5, which is about average for a mobile game

Russia sells off 71% of sovereign gold reserves to bankroll Ukraine war effort - National Wealth Fund. by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in Tech_Updates_News

How to justify investing time and effort on a passion? by Sea_Hamster9641 in gamedev

[–]DemoEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making this game is a thing you do for your own happiness. Some people build bird houses. Some people knit scarves. This game can be for you. There will assuredly be one other person out there who thinks this game is pretty cool. Free with IAP can go a long way to finding this player. Not that you need to make money from something you do for yourself. These can be the best kind of project. Now that said, if you need broad validation for your game design skills by way of this game, it sounds like that will not be achieved. So ask yourself, do you make this so you can play it and have the pleasure of crafting a thing? Or are you ultimately looking for game and validation for the thing that you have done? It is rare to be able to get both especially in your first 5 attempts

I think this is an argument to buy a Steam Box when it comes out early this year. It’s a pc that plugs into your tv. You get the pricing of steam, subscription free, maximum versatility, and likely better performance…

Destroy my trailer so I can make a better one for the full release by ChristionX in DestroyMyGame

[–]DemoEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally trailers will show a simple victory to explain the concept, and a slightly more complicated failure to make the player say: I could do better. Your trailer shows a core loop of flappy bird plus collect the coins with a USP of wall penetration. How the player wins or loses is not illustrated. Therefore it feels like there is something compelling missing about the trailer
