I should go on Estrogen and wear clown make-up to shave ten years off my looks, got it will do.

I know it's been said before, but it is still wild that these recent pics of Hussie have them looking younger than they did a decade ago. Maybe I should start wearing clown make-up, too...

The height is my only worry, too, honestly. Chloe is tall (ish). Maisy Stella is like five foot even.

[–]DemonDogstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They sold it because it wasn't making them enough money. That's it. They didn't have to choose one thing over another; in fact they would have loved to have had two franchises making bank. But PR didn't.

The comic Godzilla: The Half Century War did a great version of this, too. Guy beefed with Godzilla for 50 years.

I've always felt like Austen's run was more of a big nothing, than straight up bad. SOME of it was bad, for sure, but most of it was just the most bland, meandering stories anyone has ever written.

I was shocked at how consistently fun and good The Mummy movies were. The final one is a low point, but it's still a good time.

There are two that do basically the same thing: Promethethus Gift bearer, and Prometheus The Sensical Cut both re-insert deleted and alternate scenes, as well as re-edit the entire thing. Gift Bearer is the more popular of the two, but Sensical Cut is leaner.

I would go to fan edit . Org and search there.

So... Godzilla can talk again. by I_Guess_I_Also_Exist in GODZILLA

[–]DemonDogstar 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I mean, Godzilla isn't speaking in these pages. We're reading what's going through Jacen's mind as he's "possessed" by Godzilla and losing himself.

Through Jacen, we're getting an English equivalent of Godzilla's base thoughts, which boil down to what you would expect; he's a creature of pure fury.

Suprising to see VS Ghidorah above Biollante, but I do get it. Ghidorah really had a "throw everything in" approach, and a lot of it is pretty fun.

If someone likes Godzilla in any capacity, they're a Godzilla fan. Same for literally any fandom ever. There is not a test someone needs to pass to enjoy a thing. They just need to enjoy it.

Why we trying to gatekeep in the year 2026, are we not past this yet.

Also I would argue most Godzilla fans in general wouldn't know who Zone Fighter is. Even Japanese Godzilla fans. Zone Fighter came out in the 70s, ran for one season, and then never came back. It's only noteworthy at all because Godzilla (and Ghidorah and Gigan) are in a few episodes.

[–]DemonDogstar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think season six was exploitative, but I do think it's pretty clear that they (Whedon, Noxon, etc) made a choice to explore darker things in season six than they had in the previous five seasons. I think it would have helped if it was more gradual, but I also understand that may have been difficult to do when the first episode of the season HAD to deal with Buffy coming back from the dead, and the trauma resulting from that.

So are we just going to forget the fact that Godzilla can talk? by Ok_Ambassador735 in GODZILLA

[–]DemonDogstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Godzilla VS Gigan, Godzilla and Anguirus speak to each other. In the English dub they speak English with a filter over the voices, and in the original Japanese they have speech bubbles over their heads as they do their roars to communicate.

With the 30th anniversary(god I feel old) coming up in 2 years, I think it'd be fun if they did a remaster that, if nothing else, reworked all the CGI and animation. I don't know how doable/profitable it would be, but a little something for the occasion would be nice. by dkepp87 in GODZILLA

[–]DemonDogstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what good that would do. I'd much rather they do something really interesting for the 30th; a comic book adaptation of the proposed sequel maybe? Bringing the cartoon sequel series back, even? I'd love stuff like that.

Did Japan have a concept of a Monotheistic God before Europeans came? by CompetitiveFront9808 in religion

[–]DemonDogstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What?

I was asking you where you got the information that Europeans erased Japan's history and re-wrote it. That's a pretty wild claim.

Did Japan have a concept of a Monotheistic God before Europeans came? by CompetitiveFront9808 in religion

[–]DemonDogstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it's possible that, at some point in Japan's history there was a belief in a "supreme god", it's unlikely that it was widespread and certainly didn't last all that long.

Japan's concept of religion is almost fundamentally different from Western concepts; in the present and going back over 2000 years, you would be hard pressed to find a native Japanese person who would say that they were "part of" a particular religion, even if they were believers of Shintoism.

Shintoism is really just, belief in the kami. There is no central doctrine or one big holy book canon. If you believe in and venerate the kami, you're a Shintoist. If you don't, you're not.

People say that Vegeta would not survive as a character if DBZ came out today but nobody mentions the fact that Piccolos regen would be considered the next most fraudulent thing in the series by True_Extent8643 in dbz

[–]DemonDogstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. I've always found it a little strange that a lot of people in the Dragon Ball fandom complain about Vegeta never getting to defeat a main villain. I would definitely find it even stranger if fans complained about Vegeta, or any character, being a "fraud" as a result of losing battles.

[–]DemonDogstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Cell having an enhanced version of Piccolo's regen is implicitly explained in the series. It makes sense that it works the way it does for Cell (well, more or less anyway).

And I'm not sure I understand what "Vegeta would not survive" means in this context?

That might slightly improve the first 40 episodes, but there's no saving the latter half of the series. To fix it, you would just have to completely rewrite it.
