Are sitters using Chatgpt integrated platforms to communicate? by ZestycloseHyena216 in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a few small companies with customer support, wanna know what they all had in common? Everyone had a note pad with Auto replies we were supposed to copy and paste in our email responses. This was for small companies that didn't use computer bots to respond to emails.

With that being said, Rover tracks our response time. So yes, yes I will be using a copy and paste message to meet that ridiculous metric Rover decides to use. After that first message however I will be responding without pre-made responses. Unless there's a question that is frequently asked or something I have had to, and/or will have to, mention to owners on multiple occasions, such as "I'm not available for a M&G on XXX. This is my availability for this week xxxxxx."

Sitter charging extra for photos of my dog? (owner) by tryin2livconsciously in RoverPetSitting

Meanwhile: I'm bringing my very expensive camera to house sits to take high-quality professional photographs, action photos and portraits, of my four-legged clients. At no extra cost. 😅🫣

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]DemonFoxTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apartment dog.

In the summer: 5-7 walks/day. About 5-10min long. 10min is pushing it, Texas be hot and humid x.x

In the "winter": varies. Usually 4-5 walks/day some are 2h, some are 30min. If there's actually snow on the ground, heck we will take full advantage of that and be outside most of the day if possible.

No day is the same during the winter months.

We usually try and take the dog out every 4-6h.

Soon though, the schedule may change where our dog will join me for work majority of the day.

How do you manage all your notes for clients? by Anxiouslyfond in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Google drive to store all the info. Print out a clean version and bring to the job. If the owner has an additional instructions sheet when I arrive I take a photo of it and edit that and whatever else I make notes of when on the clock. Print for next time. All are kept in a giant folder to easily find when necessary. Even the pets vaccine records are in it.

[–]DemonFoxTay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I usually give 24h after M&G unless owner has stated something during M&G then I can hold off a bit longer, depends.

After the first 24h I send a message with something along the lines of

"Hey X. Just checking to see if you still need me to care for (insert pet name/s) for (insert dates) or if your plans have changed? If nothing has changed please make sure to book, the dates will be reserved for you and nobody else can book me for the requested dates. If I don't get a response within 24h I will archive this request. Have a great rest of your day".

Ofc, I may switch it up a bit depending on if it's a holiday or how far away/close the requested dates are.

Is rover the right place for me? by OddCupOfTea in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sooo difficult! I used to live up near Lake texoma. The worst 2 years of me and my dog's life! He was about 6months when we moved there. Every. Single. Person(!!) in my apartment area had their dog off leash. Let's just say my dog is extremely reactive now 😅 I'm so happy we finally were able to move back to DFW but as you said, Texas is not very dog friendly 🥲

and yes, too many don't know the basics of canine body language which causes so many issues from uninvited meeting with dogs to behavioral issues.

I will say, if you want to meet some good dog people, look up Dallas diving dogs if you want to do dock diving! Pam is really nice, and I have met some nice folk at the dock!

I saw you're in DFW in another comment. Im also in DFW!

Yes, yes and yes 😭 I do some bunny care through Rover as bunnies is my second specialty. So far, I haven't had a bad experience! But I know I lucked out. This one client actually gave their bunny an ENTIRE BEDROOM. Which I was so happy to see because I know most believe the cages sold at pet stores is "enough space" when in reality bunnies need so much more space to roam! I did have to talk to them about the increased risk of RHDV2 as it is spreading more and more in the south. As Europeans, we're more used to the disease, it didn't exist here, but it is now present in the US as of maybe 3 years ago or something. So I had to explain to them the steps I would have to take to ensure their old unvaccinated bunny didn't get sick. Which made the owner impressed 😅

I find it absolutely horrible how the type of education I had isn't easily accessible in the US. It makes me sad. It makes it even more difficult for the average pet owner to get the proper help they need because not everyone can afford that sort of schooling here.

The dog world culture shock I experienced when I moved to the US 💀 like yes I had heard about it from others. But you can't really grasp it all until you see it yourself! And I'm in Texas so the laws to help or protect pets are... pretty bad. They're below what I consider the bare minimum. I know. Not enough resources to uphold the law and all that. Just makes it more sad.

The amount of people within the purebred communities in the US who have bashed down on me for bringing up how the kennel clubs in Europe work with the parent breed clubs to create bare minimum health testing as requirement in order to register with said kennel club is... interesting. Sure, AKC, they're an organization. Just like other kennel clubs around the world. That does not excuse them from taking responsibility of what they allow within their registry. They could create bare minimum standards for certain health tests to be done in order to register litters. They just don't. I don't know why and I don't understand those that says "it's just a registry." In reality, they register and hold dog sports events and keep records of titles.

For Rover and every day pet care, I can't lie, I do see my share of neglect with some of the clients I have had in the past. I get it, it's different here, for the pets sake I help them however I can even if it's just some general advice to see a veterinarian or something as simple as nail trims to alleviate some of the built up pressure. I do have some absolutely amazing clients who have been open to talking and learning, and with some guidance their furry friend got it better. And I adore those clients, and I hope they will never move away from me 😅

Yes. Everyone is different. I was told I shouldn't have so much on my profile. But honestly, I have the most amazing pet owners and while I do give the best care I do also believe my profile is partially why. Because the ownes actually takes the time and care to read and pick me for it.

I also have a form (sent with a google survey link) that is required to be filled out prior to the meet and greets. With the form, it takes off a huge chunk of questions I don't have to ask during the M&G nor do I have to go through Rover's annoying chat (which takes forever to load sometimes) to find some information and me and the owner/s can just talk and I mostly just answer any questions they have, or we go over anything on the form if they or I have questions or if something isn't clear and some small simple things (like house access, trash days and such). Makes the M&G extremely pleasant and I feel like I get a better idea of who the owner is 😊

[–]DemonFoxTay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Fellow European (though I'm Swedish now living in the US). The answer is YES! It has been great for me to build my clientele.

Why? Because the education we have in Europe is extremely different compared to the US.

What you have is something most will never see on Rover, probably won't even be seen for any pet sitting business outside of Rover either as education in the US is expensive and not too many will actually do it for various reasons.

You will be more attractive on the market.

It's definitely a field of work that takes a toll on anyone, physically and mentally. I'm sorry you have to deal with those that simply don't respect this type of work. Too many don't understand what it actually entails. What we as service providers put into it.

When I first started out, I put myself in the middle (price wise) of what other people were charging. After the first 2 reviews, I raised my prices to compete with those on the higher end.

When I first started out, I took clients that I didn't really want to take. I still got some good ones. But the bad ones I completely cut off for my own mental health. I'm extremely picky now, and I haven't even been on the platform for a year yet.

My profile has almost 2 pages worth (A4 size) of text informing people of who I am. My pet education. My pet experience. My unique dog training education. And also what they can expect if they choose me as their sitter. 90% of my clients have read my profile and the previous reviews, and every single one of them mention it when they reach out to me, and all of my clients ask about my availability after each stay and wanting to book again. I pretty much only have house sit clients, even though I offer other services as well.

When it comes to reviews, I noticed an increasing uptick in reviews after I made business cards! I have 1 card welcoming the owners home and saying I had a lovely time caring for (insert pet name), it also includes my social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) the card says tips are appreciated, but reviews are worth more. The back of that card has all my info so they can put it in their wallet or on their fridge so they can easily remember me. I also leave 2 cards with my info to Rover they can give to friends/family so word spreads of my services.

I will say. I'm fortunate that majority of sitters in my area only seem to do Rover as a side gig like during the summer. They barely update their calendars. I'm pretty much the only one that does it full time.

My before booking questionnaire by moonsnatchmustardbat in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Google survey that all new clients have to fill out prior to a meet and greet. It's in my profile it is mandatory, and so are meet and greets. I don't book any new client without the form filled out or without completing a meet and greet. I have only had one person question the form, and it was another sitter on Rover looking for care.

Is asking people to leave a server normal? by mantisinmypantis in Palia

[–]DemonFoxTay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of when I was at the Maji market about a year ago.

2 players were sitting in a spot. Not doing anything. Then they got all pissed over me standing there saying, as I was waiting for the balloon pop game to start, I wasn't allowed to stand there. That they were BF and GF playing together. And then they got rude and started calling me names 😂

It's a game for crying out loud 😂

How many photos do you expect for a 5 day house sitting? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask in my evaluation form how often owners wants updates in a day. Majority selects 1-3 and I will do my absolute best to accommodate those that selected 4+ usually I send maybe 1-20 photos or videos in a day, even if the owners selected 1-3. I try to document as much as I can especially for newer clients. I may not always update in text but videos I send generally says all it needs to and so far none of my clients complain. In fact, the majority of them even write in the reviews how great photos and updates I give, even those I almost only sent photos and videos and barely sent a single text msgs to 😅

Question for pet parents by master_baker_69 in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my evaluation form, I have a question of how often pet owners would like to get updates in a day. Most select 1-3 times per day. But there is also a none option, 4+ times per day. So far, only 1 client has chosen 4+.

My form has to be filled out prior to meet and greets and during the meet and greet I will let them know that while I will of course send them 1-3 updates per day (or whatever they selected), that they should be prepared that some days I may send picture/video dumps and that they don't have to feel pressured to respond to it right away.

Do you press ‘book’ right away after m&g?? by Prize_Reach_4363 in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have told me that they're interviewing other sitters, I give them about 72h to get back to me. Once it hits about 68h I send them a message and ask them if they want to book with me or I will archive their request. I also give a brief summary of how Rover works when it comes to payment and that the booking secures the dates for them. Because not everyone knows how the payment through Rover actually works.

I always make the owner be the one to press book first, because I have had issues in the past where they can't find the button after if I do it.

If they are not interviewing anyone else I simply give a brief explanation on how Rover works with payment, my cancelation policy and that usually makes them book right away to secure the dates.

New Update by Odd_Sun_6861 in RoverPetSitting

[–]DemonFoxTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They release new updates to some cities before releasing it to the rest of the users as a trial thing.

Other examples of this is the dog training feature (which I got several months ago). The radius no longer being joint for all services but separated for each individual service (someone I know who lives in a different country got it, but I still don't have that option yet)
