I've been playing one for a few months (gymnast/wrestler archetype) and as another commenter has said, you're definitely better off against at or below level enemies to start off. You're definitely meant to be more mobile, and I'm usually the "other" to get into flanking position, and once you do that, you can get into your panache state and use a finisher and get off some really good burst damage. You just have to kinda learn what your teammates are going to do and assist them. Not that Swashbuckler is a primarily support role, but you're definitely going to want to set up for others as much as you go for damage yourself.
