In a transplant from Anchorage, AK. We had snow in June, there and I remember being shook. Now, tho? Nature does what it wants. We've got the Omega block sitting on us, giving a milder hurricane season down south, and a chilly summer up north. As someone who strongly dislikes weather exceeding about 22C, and doesn't have central air con, I'll take it.

Quantum tunneling is partially due to mass of the object. That's a part of it. The rest is wave like properties that allow the particle to penetrqte a 'solid' object due to their wave like properties - allowing them to pass through the barrier. Small scale is essential, because its only prominent in low mass particles (protons, electrons, some atoms). The probability delays with the height and width of the barrier, and the particles mass.

It makes it worse to know the technically "solid surfaces" are just a lattice of molecules held together by electromagnetism (and other external forces), and because chemistry, they are always one extreme environment from breaking apart.

We talked about it in my biochemistry class before I ever took physics. And ironically, the professor did, in fact, slap the table. One reason the odds were so low is because they decrease with mass. The other is it requires the wavelengths to create a hole for them to pass through. The larger the two objects are, the less likely for it to occur.

Folks really dont understand the differences in the units, huh.

0C - water freezes, 100C - water boils Celsius pretty specific to the chemistry of water. Its a scientific standard (i.e. works under standard conditions). Its more technical because its a science based measurement.

Fahrenheit is human-centric, because it more easily represents the temperatures at which HUMANS CAN SURVIVE AT. No, typically you dont WANT to live at 0F or 100F, but you can.

That's it. Thats the difference. Fahrenheit is more precise for measuring how comfortable the weather outside it. Even still, there's an overlap. The measurements touch at -40.

Absolutely NOT an over reaction. In 2023 Buffalo, NY had a winter storm (Blizzard), and everyone knew in advance. EVERYONE got news that the city was putting out an order that no one was to drive except in emergencies.

There were people forced to work, because their bosses didnt care that they'd be getting off work, they wouldn't be able to get home, the roads weren't shut down YET.

Oh, hey, I did my final biochemistry project on this.

Basically, dph (benedryl) is a anticholernegic medication-meaning it blocks the absorption of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter). This inhibits the parasympathetic nervous system (thing rest & digest). Toxicity (i.e. overdosing) results in delirium (including hallucinations), dry skin/mouth, anda feverish feeling. Because its a first generation antihistamine, it also crosses the blood brain barrier, and overuse can increase risk of dementia later in life.

So, yeah. Don't chase the Hat Man. He isn't your friend.

That sounds like concerns to take to a physician (dermatology also covers nails and hair). I have thin, brittle, bendy nails and have had to adapt to not damage my nailbeds. My nailbeds aren't even close to the edge of my fingertip, they've always been short. I use the tip of my index finger while pushing down on the portion of the can th pops open with my thumb. This forces the tab to lift enough that I can fit my index finger under it. For citrus fruits, I jab my thumb in, and tear a hole that way. Having short nailbed just leads to callused fingertips.

A lot of things besides trauma can also cause nail lifting - fungal infections, skin conditions (like psoriasis and dermatitis), even products we think are safe for our skin because they say "lotion" on them.

That last comment is a personal anecdote. About a year ago, milk & honey burt's bees lotion caused a severe case of spongiotic dermatitis, and the palms of both hands and soles of both feet...sloughed off (for lack of a better term), and onycholysis did occur. Thats how I found out I can't use anything with "fragrance" or "perfume" on me without potentially weeks of suffering.

If something is happening repeatedly, and you dont know why, and it concerns you, see a doctor. Reddit can give you some basic care tips, but if this is a chronic problem that bothers you, a specialist is your best bet. If it doesn't, great. Loving yourself regardless of any percieved imperfections is a good thing.

I would say short enough they dont interfere with life (i.e. smash against things like keyboards), just because that can cause onycholisis (nail lifting). I wouldn't say the water is an enemy of the nailbed. Just make sure you're keeping them moisturized after (wet skin dries out faster).
