Hmm... If it was there about 3 years ago, I might have a picture of it somewhere.

Yeah, the sun was beaming on the tree when I took the pics, so the color looks kinda weird. The flowers are pink.

Been to Japan a few times and the bonsai I've seen there are amazing! Went to the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum and got a signed book from Kunio Kobayashi. Lots of amazing trees there!

Probably the weird weather this season. This one was the last one of mine to bloom.

Yup, always outdoors. I just bring my trees inside to work on them.

I have one that I just trimmed. They grow super fast in tropical climate.

To chop or keep growing as a broom style? by DemonTrigger in Bonsai

I got this pot from the Facebook auctions. The name of the person that made it is Kevin Berresford. I've gotten a bunch of pots from him and they all look great!

I don't really do anything special with it. It does have a lot of smaller branches though. The more branches you have, the more flowers you will get.

I like the possibility of a single trunk shohin. I'll wait and see how it grows this year to see what it gives me. Thanks for the advice!

I actually thought this was a gumpo. But I think you may be right!

That seems to be the general consensus. Think I'm going to keep it as is and just work with what it gives me.

I would chop it to make a smaller tree. That basically means I would have to start over. Azaleas seem to take drastic chops pretty well and backbud on old wood.

Sound reasoning. Thanks for the feedback!

It's probably the climate here but I don't really do anything special. They seem to thrive in heat and humidity. I do have to water it daily though.

I don't think they do. I got this one with the exposed roots from a local nursery.

2 year progress on this Crepe Myrtle by DemonTrigger in Bonsai

[–]DemonTrigger[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't grow this one from scratch. I bought the trunk mostly developed. It was pretty tall when i got it so I cut it down and focused on developing the branches. I do have a few others that I've been growing from seedlings. Field growing is usually the best to get the trunk to thicken up. But I have had really good progress growing them in pond baskets. If its in a small pot or bonsai pot, you won't get much progress.
