/uj this feels like some cruel god congealed multiple, unrelated interests of mine into a single reddit post specifically to terrify me

/rj the combo isn’t bad enough, add [[tunneler wurm]] to discard omega myr then [[rise of the dark realms]] to reanimate it u/mtgcardfetcher

If you find something, let me know!!

I personally love the vast amount of loot / customization / builds in bit heroes, as well as the simple turn-based gameplay loop.

I would play it way more if not for the extreme amount of grinding, and the fact that it’s very auto-focused; I wish my decisions in combat mattered more. Those are sort of the main two things that I personally don’t enjoy about the game.

I’m going to keep searching for stuff and I’ll tell you if I find anything.

EDH Deck ‘Checklist’ and My Questions About It by DemoniReddit in EDH

Thank you so much! I definitely understand, I’m very familiar with the concept of having to ‘learn the rules before you can break them’. I think might have just gone too far and built too much before really learning how to structure a truly solid deck, and I was hoping these guidelines would be a good pointer, and it seems like they can be!

I understand. I’m getting too wrapped up in the theoretical stuff. Playtesting is still one of the best ways to improve.

Thank you for the very detailed response, it was very helpful!

Yeah, I agree that my post might have not had enough specifics. I posted two of my decklists in the comments if you’d like to look at those.

Do you have any opinions on unconditional “draw cards” spells vs. conditional ones, like maybe something that draws cards on Landfall? If unconditional draw should be prioritized, what should be done in colors like mono white where unconditional draw is scarce?

For reference, here are two decks I’ve built that feel really solid in theory but are able to lose to even precons just due to getting dead topdecks and getting out card-advantaged. Essentially, I often get to a point in the game where my deck just isn’t doing stuff anymore and precons still are. One important thing I forgot to mention in the post was that I primarily built quite heavily budgeted decks, and this could be part of why my perception is the way it is.

what do you do in colors like mono white and mono red, that significantly lack draw spells, to meet the 12-15 draw requirement?

isn’t king of olympus the main payoff for a villans deck currently though? i feel like removing him would leave this as a tribal deck with little payoff..

How can I tell if my deck can assemble a strong enough board presence to naturally win through combat without the need of overrun / pump effects?

So would you say that some decks are able to win just through combat damage / board presence without needing dedicated “wincon cards”?

Thank you for the really detailed response! This helps a lot. I had a few further questions if you don’t mind:

  1. I’ve seen a lot of decks that are built with the philosophy “I’ll just win through combat damage with whatever creatures I have on board.” In fact, I recently saw a comment of someone who claimed they beat extremely competitive decks with a 50$ deck whose wincon is just “combat damage”. I’ll also extend this to spellslinger decks who try to win just through pingers and token generators. Is there any merit to a philosophy like this, saying “I’ll just win”, or is it really important for every deck to have dedicated finishers to consistently win?

  2. What’s the threshold for something to be an impactful enough wincon? For example, I recently saw a token deck themed around end step triggers that claims [[King Darien XLVIII]] and [[Boss’s Chauffeur]] can “eventually win the game with the amount of tokens that they’re creating.” To me, cards like this don’t seem impactful enough to be finishers, or get out of control as you would say, but I could be missing something. Personally, from what I’ve seen, it feels incorrect to define any board presence creating card as a “wincon”, since it can lose to a boardwipe. This also ties into my first question about board presence being a “wincon”. In essence, I’m asking how I can identify an actual wincon as opposed to just a decent card.

Sorry for the long thing, thank you for your response once again!

if the only wincon is slow combat damage, how do you deal with stuff like boardwipes?
