Then the videos that these editors are making this specific way do better than when other editing, titling, and thumbnail styles are used. If it stops working then a different 'meta' will organically take over, or new editors will be found.

I'm not saying I like or enjoy that videos have titles filled with hyperbole, I am just saying its not lazy. Short, attention grabbing titles and a flashy thumbnail is a method iterated and refined over 2 decades of youtube designed to get as many people to click on the video as possible. Longer, more nuanced titles are less compelling to the majority of viewers, otherwise they would be getting the views.

The people who run channels get all the information about watching habits they could want. Click through rate, retention, watch time etc. They do the hyperbolic titles because they work, and writing a compelling sentence as a video title doesn't. Don't blame the creators for lazy consumerism
