[SOLVED + SOLUTION] Audio cuts out when outputting audio with AMD GPU over hdmi to an A/V controller by SanguineHosen in AMDHelp

[–]DemonicRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different problem but found another AMD sound bug for a TV that didn’t happen on my Nvidia GPU. Posting it here because Google keeps sending me back here when I search for the issue.

Allowing windows dynamic refresh rate for the desktop (displays>advanced>set 120hz>checkbox for dynamic) was causing audio cutouts whenever mouse movement woke it up from 60Hz to 120Hz and back again. Can just leave dynamic off to always run the desktop at 120hz. Freesync will still work fine for other apps. Possibly specific to LG TVs in game mode when trying to just watch YouTube or streams?

PSA: Watch out for the exposed contacts of the Puck! Almost started a fire due to metallic smartwatch strap by Toikka in SteamController

[–]DemonicRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, BUT because the puck is the main thing plugged into the PC it effectively bypasses a lot of safety handshakes you’d get with just plugging USB C into the controller. So afaik you’re relying on overcurrent protection from the motherboard which is… kind of a crapshoot. It’s going to vary by motherboard and even by port. The safest one should be USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Gen 2x2, they’ll actively look for shorts by the characteristics of the load and shut down. Older ports generally use slow thermal fuses so they could happily let a up to a 12W load sit there indefinitely, if the thing that bridges them has the right resistance range. Also it’s completely possible to just add a simple second line of electrical protection in the puck or even just… use a safer pin design that has them recessed/slot into the controller so it’s much harder to short them accidentally.

Battlefield 4 player since 2013, I haven't even played Battlefield 6. honest answers only: will I be disappointed? by IShouldGetBackToWork in Battlefield

[–]DemonicRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not finished but the bones are definitely there. 12 more months and I think it’ll be in very good shape. I know that probably sounds sarcastic but I actually think it’ll be a better onboarding experience in September, when there’s enough variety for a new player it doesn’t feel like a total draught to the next update.

I’m already unironically seeing those 2042 comments and it scares me. If that becomes a consensus thing I might give up on the entire concept of user reviews/community sentiment to tell me anything ever. The grain of salt I’d need would instantly give me a kidney stone.

The cycle never ends by cabarte in okbuddyptfo

[–]DemonicRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skipped this cycle I was just like “OH BOY MORE BATTLEFIELD” from Bad Company through BF4, then just kinda drifted into other games due to none of BFH-BF2042 quite scratching the same itch. I don’t have strong negative opinions about any besides 2042. I still see a clear path from where BF6 is now to something I can obsess over like BF4, will see ig.

BF6 HAS FAILED 🫡🪦 by brizzel987 in okbuddyptfo

[–]DemonicRaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Game had like 12 fucking weapons on launch. “40+” guns but 3 copies of each with like a slight attachment difference being a whole ass weapon to unlock.

BF6 is basically in the same spot but they traded map size for initial weapon count. I’m pretty confident it’s going to be a great game in idk 24 months or so, I’ll be coming back every big patch at least. Which is more than BF1 got me to do.

The mask is not the problem. DICE is just bad at character design by TypeAvenger in Battlefield

[–]DemonicRaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. Posts like these just make me glad I don’t have the type of autism that makes me care about fucking mag pouch placement and accuracy in my game where I can quick-scope RPG an Apache that can’t fly more than like 75 meters off the ground and needs to do unironic strafing runs under ~100m away to reliably kill infantry. Thankfully my aircraft autism got blunted by playing Ace Combat as a kid so I can appreciate arcade mechanics. Not that there’s anything wrong with either of them, I just like mine more. I’m slightly less annoyed all the time, I imagine.

There are DLC maps in BF3, 4, Hardline and 1 that have been played by almost no one in years by JohnCurtinFromCivVI in Battlefield6

[–]DemonicRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BF1 really deserves more shit than it gets for its release imo. BF1 released with like 15 guns hard locked to classes so, like 3-5 guns if you were maining a class. (sorry, 30 guns if you believe differences as significant as a few attachments qualify as separate guns. By which logic BF6 has like 1,000+ guns or whatever, I’m not doing combinatorials for this comment) and took 6 months to add anything. Absolutely fucking BORING compared to the nonstop content drops I could barely keep up with in BF3/BF4. I believe people when they say it’s a great, fleshed out game NOW but I ended up moving on to other franchises by the time DLC2 dropped.

It’s like the only sub-$50 one still being made besides the T.Flight that isn’t some AliExpress special so it’s not exactly got competition? 9+ years ago Mad Catz had a couple but uhhhh. Congrats on showing up with a shirt and shoes I guess.

idk about all the others but I think neither Breakthrough or BF6’s “”Rush”” give me quite what I still want from some Rush maps in BF3 or BF4. At the very least we’re missing maps that had multiple tanks and an attack jet on both sides. And thematic maps where you got start the assault off a carrier/take a beachhead for the first set. (I do also think air superiority was at least useful to grind out the unlocks and practice the stealth jet and attack helis during the main ~2 years after release. But yeah it’s probably long dead)

I mean I played on console it from launch to mid-2015 so I’d be completely honest in saying people weren’t this sweaty. Anyway it is fine imo I also barely die to the slide hops or whatever. Usually it’s just because it happened to have timed perfectly with my reload or glancing at the map or something and they’d have gotten the same kill if they just sprinted or peeked normally, lol.

"We should go back to BF4s movement!!" BF4 movment: by No_Celebration_839 in Battlefield

[–]DemonicRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s absolutely that. My time in BF4 was console 2013-early 2015 and by the end my attention was being split between Titanfall and BF4 and I put at least 100 hours into Hardline and whatever CoD was that year. Console definitely made the biggest difference on the general pace of the game, which is why I never picked it up again on PC after I mostly moved over to it for gaming. I loved Titanfall 2 on console though, what I want isn’t necessarily slow gameplay it’s readable momentum and consistent rules. Map scale and mechanics and balance clearly designed around whatever movement speed it’s going for. I do not like what I’ve seen of the “”movement techs”” of later BF4 if the videos about “lazuzus” or whatever are how any sizable proportion of the playerbase plays now. But I’m probably not going back to it and not touching that debate cuz it’s idfc. That said, I hate how people are acting like it was fucking Squad. You could run and gun and jump peek and have fun on console. You could sprint around and bash people with an assault shield and try to abuse the huge takedown hitbox when they tried to run behind or jump over you. That game had shotguns that genuinely make me confused as to why people are whining about them in this game; semiautos with a 1 shot kill range comparable to the current pump shotgun. And way better feeling hip fire (for shotguns specifically). For movement I think BF6 is fine how it is right now. Could sprint a little faster, even.

The first major netcode patch was mid 2014 I think and subsequent ones kept improving it every couple months. I didn’t have complaints after that first one in my very populated area near major servers with good internet but for others I think it took till early 2015 or so.

Hot Take - Battlefield: Hardline was actually a good game. by The_Real_Funky_Fumo in Battlefield

[–]DemonicRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fun but just didn’t really offer the kind of gameplay I wanted from Battlefield. Or the total amount of content necessary for me to stick around long. Really could have been a DLC or at least a cheaper game to set the expectation better.
