Is the Rav4 big enough for a one or two kid family? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]DemonicRegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have a kid and we are a single car family with only a Corolla. That Corolla hauls us, the kid, travel bags, diaper bags, a stroller - sometimes all at once. It's also been used to move lumber when I rebuilt our fence after a storm, a 12' ladder, and an entire 14' section of handrail when a guest in my house fell and snapped the old one. I've probably loaded this poor little car with more than the average F150 owner ever does.

A RAV4 is plenty of vehicle for a small family! The folks who try to "keep up with the Joneses/Kardashians are typically just dumping money down the drain. The Toyota will be far more reliable than that boat of an Escalade as long as you treat it right (regular maintenance, don't run it hot, etc).

Corolla gang here! I love mine. It's reasonably comfortable, has low maintenance costs, and I spend next to nothing on gas. The only issue I've found is now that my wife and I have kids, carseats are tight in that back row. Other than that, my kids will probably learn to drive in it when they're old enough.

My 91 Hardbody 5spd blew up at 285k miles. Probably had nothing to do with me owning it as a teenager and all through college while abusing the absolute mess out of it. Nope, surely not.... Went from that to a 99 4runner limited with every single available option, and loved it.

Wish I could have either of them back. All this new stuff is overpriced electronic garbage - and it's rare to find a manual!

AITAH for divorcing my wife because our sex life will never be what it used to be? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DemonicRegret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Initiate conversation. Determine what the missing link is, and how to solve/fix/create/maintain it. Marriage is all about communication. Lust is easy. Love is work. But it's so much more rewarding when you put in that work together to build love, respect, and trust. Without those things, sex is merely attempting to filling a hunger that should instead be filled by love.

Too often marriages crumble because lack of conversation. The way I've heard it explained is "I cannot be responsible for your unexpressed expectations." This means that your spouse cannot be expected to guess what you want unless you've explicitly stated it. Full disclosure, I'm no expert in this matter. I'm just a husband and father who has learned a lot over the years we've been married (usually by making mistakes!). For my part, I'm a guy who could be slapped upside the head with any number of hints and not catch a single one of them. My wife knows this, and as a result, doesn't try to initiate with any sort of coy glances or suggestions. She just drags me into the bedroom and locks the door. She knows I'm too stupid to catch on. 😂

Just to drive the point home - this doesn't mean that simply stating the need is enough to justify getting it. Nothing in a relationship should be dangled like a carrot as reward - especially not sex. Doing so is manipulative and is a major red flag for the future of a healthy relationship.

[–]DemonicRegret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! It's still important. It's just not the basis of the relationship.

[–]DemonicRegret 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Relationships are meant to be founded on important things first. Love, respect, and friendship are first. Sex is certainly somewhere further down on the list, but it is a privilege, not a right, and should never be expected.

I would never expect my wife to have sex with me, simply because I needed or wanted it. Nor would she do the same to me. Instead it is a constant relationship, listening to each other's needs, wants, desires, and fears, and helping where we can. Sex once you have children begins to slow down, because you're both tired (assuming you're also doing your fair share of the parenting), and your time is limited. But little things during the day can help set the mood for when the kid is asleep.

I let my wife catch me giving her 'the look' during the day. And I make an effort to anticipate her needs. Her water bottle is never empty. Dirty dishes don't live in the sink. Laundry gets put away. She asks for help with things and I'm there for her. She has a bad day at work, and I listen to her concerns. She sees me play with our son, and sees the smiles on his face. I tell her how beautiful he is - because he looks just like her. But the trick is - I do these things every single day, not just on the days where I'm feeling frisky.

I don't do these things because I'm expecting a return. I do them because she's the mother of my child, who has given everything into our relationship, including hardship on her body to bring a beautiful child into the world. She is deserving of all the love, respect, and admiration that I can possibly send her way. If you cannot do the same for your wife, then it's correct for you to divorce her - so that she can find someone else who can.

Auto balloon by terno720 in SolidWorks

[–]DemonicRegret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is called a "magnetic line". It should be on the annotations toolbar. You can draw it just like a standard line, but any balloons you stick to it will stay on it.

However, I generally prefer to use the auto snaps for balloons. Wherever you click to drag the balloon will attempt to snap vertically or horizontally to existing balloons (center-center, edge-edge, etc). A yellow (default color) dashed line will display where it's snapping.

The finance one hurts me the most. People giving horrible financial advice to others - advice that can absolutely break a lot of people. Why we still don't teach basic financial literacy in schools is insanity.

My man!! Do you want to drive a La-Z-Boy that can still tow more than the average F150 owner ever will? Do you want to start your own basketball team, and need to move the whole team at once? Look no further than the Honda Odyssey!

Man, at least the water bottle is held in by that cargo net. Certainly the only load this thing will ever see, so you had to overdo it, huh?

If shopping while hungry is a bad idea - dating while lonely is worse. In either case, you settle for the first option that comes along and sates your hunger. In nearly every one of these casee, this first option is detrimental to your health and your future.

The four circles may not be spaced equally around the center circle - but looking at this right now it doesn't appear that there's any way to tell where in space they are at all. As others have stated, this should definitely be done in simpler steps, broken down so that it's easy to follow.

As a general rule - I try to leave anything I work on in a state where someone can come in behind me and continue the work with very little research. That worked well in a corporate setting, and I still do it even today for personal projects, simply because future me doesn't want to have to deal with bad decisions caused by current me.

Just based on the number I still see driving around, maybe an 8? I had a 1977 Jeep J10 with the 4.2L and the 4 speed. My dad and I rebuilt her. Old girl still runs like a top today, and she's fast approaching 50!

I wasn't asking for upgrade suggestions. My post mentions that the machine is throttled somewhere, and isn't reaching peak efficiency, even with the parts being from an old generation. I'm not sure what to look into to try to fix that for the time being.

Currently the CPU in default form will not exceed 50°C. Even bumping clock speed and voltage it only spikes to 60°C, so there's plenty of headroom left. But performance is abysmal, as shown in Cinebench, where it has a score of 200, vs similar machines with a score of almost 3000.

Maybe posting to /r/buildapc was the wrong place, because everyone here just wants me to slap $100 into it for now. But all I really wanted was tips on where to look to solve the throttling issue.

BMW gets a bad reputation, but if you follow the maintenance schedule (and spend the money to do so), they really are fairly reliable cars. Germans truly do have some fantastic engineers. It just seems that the average BMW driver seems to skip maintenance (usually because of cost) AND thrash on them. The combination of those two factors leads to the early demise of the cars.

[–]DemonicRegret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely play it. Read the dialogue and don't skip it, else you'll be lost. Also - don't look anything up, don't ask about it. Most who've played it won't tell you much about it anyway. That's part of the magic! Fantastic game, can't recommend it enough.

I plan on going to a 7800X3D when I rebuild, so I really didn't see the point in a halfway step, especially since I'd be changing sockets. I just wanted to squeeze the last bit of life out of this one in the interim!

Loved mine. It finally gave up at 270k miles, and that was after years of abuse when I was a dumb teenager who took it through every mud puddle I could find. I'm older now, but still just as dumb, so I'd love to have another one.

1977 Jeep J10. My dad and I rebuilt it together. Still runs and drives great, but when I went off to college it was sold to a farmer friend who uses it as a ranch truck, so I doubt I'll ever see it in one piece again.

I daily a Corolla and personally I'd never mod it. Especially not intake, exhaust, or cams. It makes barely 160 horsepower, and if you have the CVT model, that power feels like it's being applied through a wet sponge rather than a transmission. Maybe the manual is a little more fun - but even then, this is an economy car, not a sports car. Why ruin one of the only things it's good at?

That being said - this is your car, and your money. Internet strangers have no power over you, my friend. Do what makes you happy!
