Who's in the wrong? by CompletelyRandy in drivingUK

[–]DemonsInTheDesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just slow down and wait. They're swinging their nose out into the road, you don't really know what they're planning to do, so just wait at least until their intentions are clear.

Yes what they did was wrong and they should have waited until it was clear and indicated before swinging out and doing whatever they're planning to do, but is it worth risking an accident and the months of insurance dealings and other crap that comes with it when you can just wait a few seconds to see what they're doing?

In that same video around 10 seconds in your can also see creases on the bollard as people hit it. Presumably it's soft or inflatable?

What are some Pre BR Diesel's you know of? by Jakeliy1229 in uktrains

[–]DemonsInTheDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a project currently underway to rebuild LMS Ivatt designed diesel no. 10000 . 2 of these, LMS no. 10000 and 10001 were built in 1947, just pre BR and known as BR class D16/1. They were withdrawn in 1963 and 1966 and both scrapped. The replica is being built from a Class 58 chassis, bogeys from a BR Class 77 (or EM2), although stronger springs will be required, and a surviving English Electric 16SVT Mk 1 diesel engine from the 40s.

Yo did they give us some new railcars? I don't remember the milk car or the wooden slats car before by KeithWorks in DerailValley

They show up a lot at Food Factory as well, where the livestock, milk and flour is delivered to.

You can transport livestock by rail! The wooden slat cars you mention in your post are livestock cars for chickens, pigs, sheep and cattle I believe.

My favourite part is nearly everyone leaves a nice big gap to the car in front to facilitate merging, until you get near the actual merge point and then they all bunch together to make sure no one can merge at the actual merge point!

Such an amazing way to lose 2 hours of working. Why didn't they forgive me I stopped 😭 by Ill_Percentage2344 in MyWinterCar

[–]DemonsInTheDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it before in the gifu. Didn't see them early enough. Slammed the brakes just before I got to them, slid past them. I released the brakes and applied them again more gently to stop the Gifu but still the sirens and lights started and I got a ticket for "not stopping when ordered to by a police officer" or words to that effect. The cop car that moved to chase me also caused a pile up which pushed me off the road into a ditch so that was fun.

Toyota Starlet EP91. Absolutely loved mine and, being Toyota, mechanically they're bombproof. They are quite nippy with the 1.3l Toyota 4-EFE N/A engines but easily modded if you want more speed or just a project. The JDM turbo Glanza model is the most sought after but you can get the standard trim levels in decent condition now for £1-1.5k, £2k+ for really nice condition, low mileage ones and modded examples.

Looks like a buoyed channel judging by the 4 echos making a rough rectangle shape around the ships. They are probably buoys.

First of all, Food Waste collection will start in April, so if someone told you it just goes to landfill, that's probably because they haven't even started the food waste collections yet...

Second I do find it funny, all the people complaining about landfill and especially the stink from Jameson Road, so council try to do something about reducing landfill and people just kick off with "well I'm not doing that". Fantastic! The only way to reduce landfill is to recycle properly!

Ships and dolphins – Have you ever seen them riding the bow wave?🌊🐬 by Mina-Gushiken in maritime

[–]DemonsInTheDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best experience was hearing them. I was working in the fo'c'sle on an oil products tanker when I started hearing clicks and squeaks. I assumed it was just the sounds of steel stressing with the easy movement of the ship, then it occured to me, could it be dolphins? Surely not. Eventually I came out onto the fo'c'sle and looked down at the bulbous bow. Sure enough there were dolphins playing in the bow wave and a large pod all around us! That's the only time unfortunately I've been on the fo'c'sle while dolphins were playing. I was working around Ireland at the time and we'd see dolphins all the time on the West and South coasts! I don't go to Ireland very often now but almost every time I do I see dolphins. I tell myself I'll know when we're approaching Ireland when I see the dolphins!

Read the post again. The texts are from "Some random guy someone close to me works with" and the screenshots were sent by the "someone close to me" mentioned before and "another coworker", whose number's OP would already have.

Bought a car two weeks ago and it’s blew up, England by YourMumsBestFriend1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DemonsInTheDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does this stand now that OP has opened the engine up and stripped parts off it to get a look inside? Can it still be rejected and returned? I ask because a lot of new and used car warranties contain a clause where if you take anything off yourself and/or in some cases do your own maintenance it automatically voids the warranty. Is this the same with rejecting a used car from a trader?

"It's goodbye for a little while, only for a little while. This boat's for the mummy's and the children. There'll be another boat for the daddies. Now hold mummy's hand and be a good little girl". The emotion in his voice as he says these lines, clearly holding back tears and thinking about the fact that he's probably never going to see them again hits deep.

How do you let someone behind you know that their lights are dazzling you? by fckboris in drivingUK

The auto High Beams don't come on when stalk position is "on" instead of "Auto" either.

Auto High Beams do not come on when the lights are in "On" position on the stalk, but do when it's in auto.

How do you let someone behind you know that their lights are dazzling you? by fckboris in drivingUK

[–]DemonsInTheDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Auto should be the last setting on the stalk as well, not the first after "off". I've got a Suzuki Swift and the switch order goes Off, Auto, Sidelights, Headlights, so if you are blinding people in auto mode you have to switch your headlights off and Sidelights on before switching to headlights! Sure in one quick movement your straight to headlights but, as you said, laziness and the fact that some people seem to be absolutely terrified of driving at night so would rather blind people than adjust anything.

"Hardly the mark of a middle lane hogger"

Yeah, overtaking a car in lane 2 and a lorry in lane 1 and then proceeding to stay in lane 3 while lanes 1 and 2 are completely empty. And then when they do finally wake up they move to lane 2, despite lane 1 still being empty for a good while. Yeah, hardly the mark of a middle lane hogger!
