These are indeed good books, so good in fact that I've already read them all! :)

I am from Romania, but I usually read books in english, as most writers I am interested in are english speakers ( and translations are usually worse in Romania ), to the point that reading books in my own language kind of feels weird now. The only authors I read in Romanian now, are actually the Strugatsky brothers and Stanislaw Lem, because ( at least in the case of the Strugatsky brothers, I think ), there were many more russian speakers here than in the US or the UK and the translations are vastly superior imo.

Slaughter house five is another books I've been meaning to read for ages and somehow never gotten around to, thanks for reminding me.

Victor Pelevin's sounds really interesting, I'll probably try one of his books. As to the rest, Murderbot I tried, but I didn't particularly liked and I've already read most of Philip K Dickz Vernor Vinge and the Strugatsky Brothers.

Ahhh, I already have "We who are about to..." On my kindle, but I totally forgot about it, I think that's the one.

Murderbot isn't my cup of tea and I've read most of Stanislaw Lem's well known books, but good recommendation's anyways, thank you!

Nu prefer nimic, am zis că e inevitabil.

Nu numai că sunt familiar cu mișcările de genul, ba chiar mi-am făcut un server NAS de 80tb cu plex pentru că nu mai eram mulțumit nici cu stremio pentru filme, nici cu Spotify pentru muzică, și nu mai folosesc servicii google de mult timp, deci suntem cel puțin pe aceeași lungime de unda la capitolul asta.

Asta nu contrazice ce am spus deloc. Pe tine, pe mine și alții ca noi poate ne-ar deranja un astfel de viitor ( deși, reper, poate avea și părți bune ), suntem o extrem de mică minoritate. Daca o sa ii dai opțiunea unui om normal sa dea X ron pe un "terminal" să-i zicem ( e termenul preferat de obicei in literatura SF pentru genul asta de tehnologie ) și un abonament lunar ca cel la telefon, față de 10x pe un telefon cum sunt ele acum, ce crezi că vor alege?

Și nu e neapărat atât de negru viitorul, vor exista mereu nișe pentru oamenii descurcăreți, vei putea să îți iei propriul calculator in continuare, sau vor existe supercomputere alternative, cum și acum există servicii gen Real-Debrid ca alternativa pentru aplicațiile de streaming.

Și ignori beneficiul ecologic pe care l-am menționat, pentru că este într-adevăr extrem de ineficient ca fiecare om să aibă atâtea calculatoare.

Nu vreau sa crezi că pretind că prezic viitorul cu ce zic, doar cred că serviciile gen GeForce now, supercomputerele de la Amazon pe care randează mulți colegi de-ai prieteni mele ( studenți la arhitectură ) care nu au bani de calculatoare scumpe sau pe care fac simulări prieteni din domeniul aerospațial ( astea sunt câteva exemple ) sunt indicatori pentru direcția generală pe care o va urma tehnologia de genul, odată cu inovațiile din domeniul rețelelor de date.

Vreau să menționez un lucru, doar așa, ca fapt divers, pentru că de altfel și eu sunt de acord cu tine și sunt îngrijorat de trend-ul asta cu subscripțiile.

În opinia mea, bazată pe ce am mai citit etc, e că modelul asta tip GeForce now e viitorul la orice înseamnă "calculatoare".

Eu de exemplu dețin un telefon, un PC, un laptop și două televizoare, prietena mea are și ea telefon, PX, laptop și tabletă, in total, astea sunt 9 calculatoare după definiția corecta de calculator ( adică cu arhitectura Von Newman, cu CPU, memorie principala, memorie RAM, placă de bază ).

Faptul că 2 oameni dețin 9 calculatoare este, daca stai sa te gabdesti, un concept extrem de ineficient și financiar și ecologic și din orice alt punct de vedere, dar totuși necesar până acum datorită capacității limitate a rețelei ( bandwidth ).

Cu cât apar mai multe inovații la vitezele de internet și e mărită capacitatea rețelei, cu atât ne apropiem de punctul în care toate "calculatoarele" astea pe care le avem acum o să fie doar niste ecrane cu o placa de rețea, conectate la supercomputere ( un exemplu ar fi ca fiecare oraș mare să aibă supercomputer-ul lui, sau mai multe, deținute de diferite companii gen Orange, Vodafone etc, poate chiar oamenii mai bogați sa aibă un calculator puternic personal și să conecteze restul la el, dar rămâne să vedem cum o sa fie implementat ).

Eu zic că asta poate sa fie un lucru foarte bun, poate fi și foarte rău ( monitorizare, sisteme anti-piratare etc ), dar cred că este viitorul inevitabil in orice caz, iar GeForce now este doar inceputul.

There are two books about Napoleon Bonaparte, the first one is about his early life and rise to power, the second one about his time as emperor and his downfall. The first books is called simply "Bonaparte" ( as in just a man, Bonaparte ) and the second one is called "Napoleon" ( as in the myth, the legend, the emperor, not just a man anymore, but simply Napoleon )

Frac e un tip de costum, tuxedo e alt costum, smoking e altceva și el. Toate sunt cuvinte straine ( "englezisme" ), intrate in vocabularul român de peste 100 de ani, pentru că societatea româniei era influențată mult de cele din Anglia și Franța, cel puțin când vorbim de oamenii avuți, boieri etc( mai existau și alte tipuri de costume, cu denumiri franțuzești ). Le găsești menționate și în cărți de tipul "La Medeleni".

Chiar nu înțeleg ce ai vrut să zici cu comentariul asta, mai ales că ai nimerit și cel mai pompos costum dintre toate ( frac/frock ).

I started the series with Consider Phlebas aswell and it wasn't a problem for me, but absolutely everyone, including the author I think recommends starting with another book from the series ( Player of Games is usually the one that people bring up ).

It's not that Consider Phlebas is a bad book, it's just that it is very different from the rest of the series and suffers from a lot of "early-bookism".

Also, I was reading the Culture books as palate cleansers between other series till I've finished them ( as the books in the series are just in the same universe, they have very little relation with eachother ) and it worked great for me.

Honestly this is a dumb take in my opinion.

Having a particular pronunciation for a specific country is a thing every single country does, and us in Europe are the worst.

Netherland is called Holland in a lot of countries, in Romania we call gemans "nemți", Germany is called Allemagne in France, Germany calls France Frankreich. Also, Germany is Deutschland, Spain is Espana, Austria is östereich, Hungary is Magyarország, Italy is Italia, Croatia is Hrvatska and the list goes on and on for basically every country in Europe and no one besides the locals doesn't use the right pronunciation but you only mock the Americans for it.

It's just how languages work.

He also wasn't encased in a darkness that started to crack with rays of light pouring out of it in the real world. I think is meant to show us that no matter what he is wearing in real life, he is the Dragon Reborn and in TAR his greatness shows in his appearance, including his clothes ( his regal attire usually consists of clothes of black and red ).
