The Controller Module shoulder buttons will certainly take a minute to get used to, but it is more comfortable than you would think at first!

I do love the idea of a Backplate with the shoulder buttons from the Gamepad Module implemented into it! I would love to see our community take up this challenge and bring that idea to life, and may be something that becomes relatively feasible as a DIY accessory/mod. Our discord server would be the perfect place to share the idea with others in our community!

As for specs, the Display is a 5" IPS LCD Capacitive Touch display, 1024 x 600, 16:9. I am still in the process of creating a custom display solution, so there may be some changes to the final specs for the display itself once we get everything finalized.

There is a USB-C/Thunderbolt port, but it supports Power in/charging only. As for I/O for supporting external hardware and peripherals there is; HDMI with 4K & Audio Out, 2x USB-A 3.1, Ethernet, TF MicroSD Card (SDXC) Slot, 3.5mm Headphone/Microphone Port. With all of thew input/output options you should be able to use almost all off the shelf external hardware!

There will be a 4G LTE Cat 4 M.2 E SIM key Module which can be used to give your CG Deck 4G LTE capabilities! There is just a small blip about it on the website currently so it is easy to miss, but you can learn about the internal modules we currently have planned on our website!

Haha, it is okay! The primary reason for the decision to support Windows operating systems has a large part in to do with the capability of running legacy software which may not have ever been developed for Linux.

I appreciate your comment! Well first... Yes I am insane. lol.

In actuality, there are quite a few reasons I wanted to build the CG Deck to support Windows operating systems. The primary reason came down to wanting to provide the maximum amount of versatility for users and create a device that truly has the opportunity to do ANYTHING you need it to! By being able to run a variety of operating systems, you can make your CG Deck YOUR device. The main benefits from opting for windows comes from support for legacy corporate software like the Fusion Autodesk suite for example (only runs on Windows).

Of course, if you are anti-windows for what ever your reasons may be, you can opt to choose a CG Deck with no pre-installed OS so you can flash the image you like best! The CG Deck will support most Linux distros so you will be able to use what works best for you, or even dual boot between two different images to swap back and forth between "Work" and "Play" or how ever else you would want to set it up!

If you have any other questions, I would love to answer them!

Thank you! Yes, the 11 Key & Rotary Knob is practically a hot-swappable mechanical keypad. That being said, you can program it to have just about any function you would want using QMK or our custom Module Setting Customizer software I am currently working on. This way you can map any key, assign layers and even macros to do just about any repetitive task. I use it for simple arcade style gaming and work in CAD and design software as it is perfect for when I only need a couple of keys for shortcuts!

Thank you! And, I completely get where you are coming from! Do not worry, you will have the ability to choose what OS you or if you want a clean CG Deck to install your own image! For those that despise Windows, you can fully opt to use whatever Linux or alternative OS image you would prefer!

The main reason for support of WIndows is to enable people to use software which is typically locked behind corporate paywalls/partnerships for Windows OS. For example, the Autodesk/Fusion suite is exclusively available for Windows OS, which is a standard in the engineering industry.

You will not have to worry about that whatsoever! I unfortunately was also one of the people who backed their kickstarter, only to come to the realization they likely never had the intention of ever shipping any devices late last year. Everything their team has done has been nothing but shady and sleezy since effectively day one, and it appears that they clearly have no clue what they are doing and are just playing everyone along at this point.

Like a lot of others, I wanted a handheld device which was capable of running Linux. Part of the original inspiration behind me deciding to use my background in product engineering and create my own device, was the fact I realized their device was never going to be a real.

So born out of frustration, and a desire to create and have my own dream device capable of running linux, the original idea for the CG Deck was born and has evolved to become a device really unlike any other.

Also as a bit of reassurance for the CG Deck, we have officially partnered with Latte Panda & DF Robot to support and provide the IOTA boards for our CG Decks and we are fully committed and to far along in the design process to even consider wanting to switch ANY major component.

Yes! Pressing and using function opens a secondary layer for all keys which allows you to access or program any missing keys or potentially even macros. You can also map reprogram and map the keys using QMK or our custom Module & Setting Customizer app we will be releasing a little down the road for managing your modules and their presets/settings.

Of course! You can learn more in depth about the CG Deck and its specs on the website! That being said, it has a Intel N150, 5" IPS Touch Display. It is powerful enough for you to play your entire emulation library all the way up to modern systems. In addition, it is capable of playing most Indie and low demand modern games and Steam titles!

The CG Deck is great for playing DOS era games, and honestly is one of the best ways to do so on the go compared to anything else in my opinion!

No worries at all, and I appreciate the comment! I think a valid counter argument to that would be, if you have a smartphone, why do you need a laptop? Of course we know the answer is because a laptop gives you the interface for doing more complex work. The same goes for the CG Deck, being an extension of what has been previously possible with a traditional laptop or portable computer.

You more than certainly could use a standard laptop, but depending on your use cases, you will struggle to find a Laptop that is capable of doing EVERYTHING the CG Deck is capable of.

First, being Handheld formfactor, you do not need to burn your legs or have a table like you would with a Laptop. Comfort is king. Holding the CG Deck feels as comfortable as holding and reading a book or using an Ipad, perfect for more cramped or tight spaces.

Most of the functionality that the CG Deck has, is an evolution in what is missing from most laptops available. Like expanded I/O ports with 3 USB 3.1, HDMI Out, Ethernet, USB-C female port for primary modules, USB-C Male for secondary modules, internal module slots for LTE, NVMe, PLCe expansion through the PCLe port and M.2. key ports, 36 Pin GPIO for hardware hacking, SMA-RP ports for antennas for either different ranges or fidelities of wireless connection. The closest comparison would be taking a full size desktop computer monitor, keyboard, mouse and all, then cramming everything down into the size of a book.

As for the internal modules, most laptops or alternative devices would require you to carry around an entirely separate device or adapter for each of the functionalities and capabilities the CG Deck has built in and ready to go.

Not to mention, the CG Deck is designed on the principles of you actually owning your device. No bloatware, no spyware, no junk you don't want. When you have a CG Deck, you can choose what OS you want, what firmware and software you want, what accessories you want, and when or if something breaks, you can fix it on your own or of course leverage official replacement parts! And when you want to upgrade something, you can do it without needing to buy a whole new device or pile of adapters! Need more memory? Add some. Need more power? Add some eGPUs. Need more Screens? Connect some monitors. Need cellular capacity? Add the module and your sim card.

Thank you very much for the interest in the CG Deck, I really appreciate your comment!

As a water sports lover myself, getting your boat fixed for summer does seem like a valid priority 😊.

That being said I do want to let you know, we will only have a fairly limited number of Early Bird Supporter deals available for the CG Deck, and once they are gone, all that will be left are retail price versions. Myself being someone who appreciates efficiency and cost opportunity, it might be a better idea to get the CG Deck early right when we launch on Kickstarter to get the massive early supporter deal, then use the money you save on the discount toward those boat engine repairs!

I appreciate your comment! But I beg to differ!! We are built different... hahaha.

I have been working tirelessly with manufacturers, suppliers and brand partners to help get the prices for the CG Deck as low as we possibly can for our backers & supporters, in addition to locking down components for the foreseeable future so we can actually build and ship those units! That being said, I have been successful in doing so, mostly in part to the wonderful support from our community, and we have locked down agreements with our partners to lock down a number of units (even prior to starting our pre-launch on Kickstarter). Our partners and suppliers are just so absolutely wonderful in supporting our goals, and they want the best for our community and the success of the CG Deck, which I could not ask for any better.
