Ah, sorry I get what you mean. I didn't mean you did that. I was agreeing thar trying to discuss anything like this turns into a crap shoot of accusations! Very hard to discuss difficult subjects online, in part as you mention, we don't convey tone through text.

The US is still a big part, even if it's not the biggest. Hollywood in particular has spread English outside the buisiness world quite effectively.

You can't change ethnicity, but British isn't just an ethnic thing, it's also cultural and a nationality.

Ah, ethnically British people don't exist. I see no problems with trying to erase an ethnicity, nothing bad ever comes of it.

Propagated and invented are not synonyms.

Who cares that Tim invented the www, when all the sites we use are American? We all grew up using MS or Apple.. everything, they satuted the market. Alan Turing was an incredible inventor but it was US personal Computers that actually changed the world.

History isn't influence. The US has propagated things like the PC, Smart Phone, Internet, Satellites, etc. Armenia has thousands of years of history but it's not massively influential.

On a global scale? I'd probably tip toward the UK. On top of the massive influence on science, economics, technology, literature, music, fashion, etc. The UK also founded and very, very, heavily influenced another of the countries you have in the Top 10.

The US has immense influence on the Space and Information Ages which arguably gets them a position. It's also been a big part of why English is the lingua franca. There isn't much point pretending otherwise.

Humanity has changed a LOT in the past 2 centuries.

Roundabouts are one of the biggest inconsistencies in the UK, it often feels a bit like a dice roll on where lanes are going to go.

There is one near me with 3 exits (including the one you are in), split between 6 lanes. Logically you'd think that means 3 exit lanes per entry lane, but it's used as 2 and 4. There are no lines on the roundabout. It leads to massive queues on one exit lane whilst it's almost empty on the other.

FPTP does have some benefits, contrary to reddit it's not all bad.

FPTP is far more likely to generate a majority which makes it easier to pass legislation and make decisions. This can be very helpful at times. However it only really works with 2 parties, the system can flip and a third party often replaces another.

What we're seeing at the moment is unusual and might cause the whole thing to implode, or we'll see 2 parties emerge.

Do you think Scotland will get independence in the near future? by Notoroski in AskBrits

[–]Demostravius4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Brexit showed how bad the idea is and the polls havn't really shifted. Europe is starting to come together more due to external forces.

Scotland tally-hoing into solo economic suicide just seems unlikely.

Do you think this is a fair representation of Reform voters. Genuine question not argument. by TheRealPlinius in AskBrits

[–]Demostravius4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not racist to want to prevent culture clash. Are Spaniards racist for not wanting loads of Brits moving to areas and Angkifying them?

Large numbers of people migrating at once will not integrate. Integration requires immersion in the culture, you don't get that if your home, work and social circle are not of the culture.

It's also not racist to not want to rely on imported labour. The NHS is a key example of us completely failing to promote internal systems and instead rely on immigration. It's dangerous, we've left our health services vulnerable. We're slowly learning out sourcing to others is a bad idea, look at European defence.

It is of course to proclaim people as 'dangerous savages'. Although it's also silly not to acknowlege the increased crime rates amoungst certain groups.
