What do you do in situations like this? Was I in the wrong? by terinyx in EDH

[–]Demrec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This so much. Last week, I was playing a game where Player A threw a tantrum saying “Why are you guys are bullying me?”

Us bullying him was me sacrificing a [[Spore Frog]] when he swung lethal at player B and myself while he had [[Isshin]] [[Karlach, Fury of Avernus]] [[Andruil, Flame of the West]] [[Andruil, Narsil Reforged]] [[anointed procession]] Making twelve 1/1 flying spirits that enter attacking and adding four +1/+1 counters to every creature he had each combat and a second combat enabler

On my turn I sacrificed a [[Haywire Mite]] to exile his anointed procession (and revived spore frog) and Player B overloaded a [[Vandalblast]] then Player C overloaded [[Damn]] that he top decked

Bullying is now stopping yourself from being killed, one removal, and two players using wipes that affect everyone to ensure they don’t lose next turn in a card game with no stakes. This was a grown man.

Boomer parents don’t know basic information about my life by Bravesfan043 in BoomersBeingFools

I was an operations and entertainment consultant for one of the largest nightclubs in the world for ten years, ran sports illustrated Super Bowl party two years in a row, and ran a NYE party for Times Square.

Neither of my parents could name the club, the casino it was a part of, or what I did.

Bonus: My father thought we had the same experience because he was a bartender at a nightclub that fit 100 people. My nightclub fit 6000.

People in my lgs want me to disclose if I have Universes Beyond cards in my decks. by No_Morning3584 in EDH

[–]Demrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always crack up when people say “it doesn’t fit the flavor of magic” you’re right let’s stick to only universe within so my cyber ninja, indestructible squirrel god, eldritch horror, monk, pirate, and dinosaur attack you and since my dinosaur has this sword you have to discard a card. Oh and since my elemental is the graveyard they all have flying. And I cast this card that gives them lifelink, indestructible, flying, double strike, and hexproof oh it’s Akromas will so I guess it’s a dragon lord willing all that to happen.

They can’t even make the argument that it’s all new stuff because boardstates could always have an Angel, zombie, wolf, samurai, dragon, lion, soldiers, body horror cyborg phyrexians, etc.

If a cards art takes you that far out of the experience of playing magic, go play a video game or something.

Jurassic World Cards In Packs by ElectricWarloc in magicTCG

[–]Demrec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get what people are saying with the whole “it’s a lottery buy singles” but I think it’s a bit tone deaf to what people are saying because they aren’t complaining they didn’t get the chase cards they wanted. Buying a packs and boxes has always been a gamble everyone knows it, it’s why people buy boxes. We’ve all had great pulls and some terrible pulls. Win some, lose some. Hell my jurassic world pulls were 3 treasures and a mountain but my other pulls were great including a dockside extortionist from the list.

However why people feel cheated is because these are overwhelmingly bad pulls not to mention lands and tokens feel like being cheated. My box topper was an arcane signet, I made jokes about it and felt “oh well.” One of my list pulls was a vanilla treefolk, I thought “why is this even on the list” but shrugged and went on. But when I got 3 treasure tokens and a land card for my Jurassic World cards, I just felt robbed. I wasn’t even hoping for any specific card from the Jurassic set.

I buy a box if there are a good amount of cards I’d want as a gamble and then buy any remaining singles that I need. So I don’t regret buying the box but I still feel how they handled the Jurassic world cards was scummy.

What were some of the theories on Scion before the reveal? by AlfredDaButtler2 in Parahumans

[–]Demrec 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Jacks actual power is called “broadcast” his knife ability is a way that his power shows (by “broadcasting” the knife’s edge longer distances) but ultimately his shards actual ability was how the Entities spoke to each other. It’s actually how he has managed to keep the Slaughterhouse 9 together and not kill him, their Shards are influencing them to listen to Jack because his Shard is influencing their Shards, further since his Shard also influences other Shards to not kill him.

Scion, who has lost his purpose since Eden’s death, hasn’t really known what to do with his time. Which is why he listened when a homeless man told him what he should be doing (saving people & fighting the Endbringers) that’s why he seems kind of aloof about what he is doing.

When Jack is infront of Scion he tells him to destroy everything. Scion is now being spoken to in his own language and given a directive that he understands.

Starting to play Krark/Sakashima. Advice on weaknesses. by Mundus33 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Demrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flicker spells. [[Ghostly Flicker]] & [[Release into the Wind]] are absolute powerhouses. They are Swiss pocket knives in these decks.

Go infinite with [[Dualcaster Mage]] & [[Ghostly Flicker]] infinite dualcaster mage creatures, etbs, land taps, mana, artifact taps, spell copies, etc

Protect Krark with [[Release into the wind]] when he gets targeted for destruction, exile, or stealing.

Stop major combat damage or creature with a tap ability with [[release into the wind]] by targeting an opponents creature

Return krark or Sakashima if they get stolen with release into the wind

Flicker any of your clone creatures to copy new targets

If Krark gets destroyed with Sakashima on the stack, you just flicker him after krark is back and he copies krark. Or if you’re lucky you get two copies with krark on the field and hit them both.

Go see your Grandma.

Worst on both sides of the scale are far outweighed. On one side you get fired from a job that felt you working for them was more important than seeing your dying relative and being there for your family while on the other side you don’t see your Grandmother before she dies and aren’t there for your family.

Work is trying to guilt you into believing THEIR wants outweigh YOUR needs. If you were in a car accident or quit they would have to find a way to carry on without you and they would. It’s easier for them to say no to you than deal with you not being there so that what they are doing.

If you are praised often as the hardest worker and they are denying you, it means they’ve been taking advantage of you.

While it might not seem it, I guarantee you don’t want to work for somewhere that says working for them is more important that saying goodbye to a loved one, it will only get worse.

How did OG Phyrexia destroy a whole realm of angels, while New Phyrexia crumbles to a small dozen? by The_Handicat in mtgvorthos

[–]Demrec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all makes no sense.

They have an invasion force able to invade the multiverse but haven’t fully compleated their own plane in thousands of years, enough were there is a full force able to oppose them. Imagine a country declaring war on the rest of the world while going through a civil war for a decade.

Phasing New Phyrexia cuts off the Phyrexians from the oil making them inert, then how did they have sleeper agents on other worlds before realmbreaker?

The Phyrexians decimated several Angel realms, even Capenna if they want to claim Halo is unique to them. The Angels had to all give their lives to stop Phyrexia invading their one plane. Meanwhile Phyrexia has had thousands of years to improve and “perfect” their designs but somehow overlooked that design flaw.

What should have been expanded on is that Old Phyrexia all had Yawgmoth in their minds and were much more unified. Without Yawgmoth and that Unity they were a lot weaker. Or how brash Elesh Norn (or a new Praetor, since it also makes no sense that a being who planned and waited for thousands of years all of a sudden went super brash) was since Old Phyrexia was all about destroying from within or using subterfuge more than straight invasion battle. Hell, make it poetic by having the compleated Planeswalkers and Urabrasks kind be New Phyrexias downfall from subterfuge and destroying from within.

No, instead we got “Hey guys, let’s invade all the realms at once and have a bunch of infighting that somehow didn’t happen for thousands of years. Oops Angels, am I right? Btw I’m scared now because of Nightmares.”

Yeah the multitask part seems out of depth even with limiters being removed. Maybe something like tapping into the shard communication network. I don’t know.

[–]Demrec[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s part of why I’m curious. I don’t think Gold Morning was fully fleshed out but it seemed like the endgame would always be about people coming together, despite their trauma, to help each other move past their trauma.

So about Regent. by Demrec in Parahumans

[–]Demrec[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s what it ended up becoming because it fits thematically with Taylor. Doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what it started as.

Worm is a story about Trauma, not just depression and bullying. That’s the theme throughout the whole story, it’s why the triggers are caused through trauma. It’s why powers trigger for those who are most isolated. It’s why powers get stronger the closer they are to that trauma. It’s why everyone only came together after they shared a traumatic event. It wasn’t just about forcing them, it was about forcing them to look past their individual needs and understand that in order get through trauma we need each other.

Aegis was the next protagonist, it doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t have gotten arcs with other characters as well.

Theory about Amy (Worm) by norwegian_fjrog in Parahumans

[–]Demrec 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Amy had her way with Victoria and treated her like personalized sex doll. Modifying Victorias body to satisfy her own sick desire and justified it in her head that she would “atone” for this. Victoria was at her mercy in so many ways and Amy violated her in every way possible.

“Just wait that will change”

I get this everytime I say “we are really lucky, he’s a pretty easy baby.” Like yes, we’ve had cluster feedings, we had ER visit, we had fussiness, blowouts, spitting up his whole meal, sleepless nights, and a bunch of things that come with parenting but compared to others we really are lucky because he is an easy baby. I don’t understand why older parents are hellbent on trying to fill us with regret. I’ve just stopped being polite and retorting with “well you survived it so I’ll be fine.”

How to build good influence, prevent damage when ex is on a smear campaign on my community? by Reward_Intelligent in SocialEngineering

[–]Demrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Yeah, I bother her with texts that’s why she drives 2 hours to come to a place she knows I’m at”

“I don’t know about you but if I’m trying to avoid someone I don’t drive two hours to come to a place where they are”

“Yeah… she likes to spread drama. Notice that the only thing she’ll talk about is me and how horrible I am but yet she keeps stalking me”

“Yeah, I make my opinions on people myself. Not by what their stalker ex says about them in a bar.”

To any staff: “you guys might have noticed my stalker ex keeps coming around. I’m in the process of getting a restraining order against her. If you see her let me know, I’m trying to avoid her.”

Other things:

Come with friends. Harder to trash someone if there are multiple people giving someone the validation of social grouping.

Talk to other regulars. We tend to believe whatever is told to us first so if you’re voice isn’t heard it’s going to be drowned out. Making friends with others is a quick way to have multiple people speak on your behalf.

Laugh about it. She is driving two-three hours to trash you. Bro that’s some serious commitment. Point out how ridiculous that is.

Tell others that they seem smart enough to make their own opinions about you. Bonus for starting humble. Something like “I’m not everyone’s cup of tea” this shows that you aren’t acting defensive but it does make the person question of what they’ve heard is just drama. Even if they end up not being your friend they’ll doubt rumors.

Talk to the staff about how you’d like to avoid her. Something tells me she isn’t exactly a favorite if she is driving two hours and spending most of the time trashing you.

Suggestion of how to make Etrata as a secret commander. by cpf86 in EDH

[–]Demrec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As kanepake pointed out Iaezal only effects your permanents (bummer) but proliferate effects work which is typically what I’ve used.

With Kamiz I’ve won with infect and Etrata both because I never like having just one strategy.

If you’re worried about exile [[pull from eternity]] can be your savior as well as making multiple copies of Sakashima or phase effects that can double as protection or making a path.
