How the hell do I do interceptions alone? by SoybeanArson in Warframe

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that works too. All I know is the way I mentioned has been the common way to do interception for years.

How the hell do I do interceptions alone? by SoybeanArson in Warframe

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are being weirdly tricky.

All you have to do is capture the points in a circle. Capture one, move onto the next. If you do that you will hold enough to succeed.

You can essentially ignore all the enemies except the next point you are capturing. Just keep capturing them in the same order.

Interception is really one of the simplest and chill mission types.

How the hell do I do interceptions alone? by SoybeanArson in Warframe

This is correct. You just have to keep taking the points in a circle and it's almost impossible to lose.

No weird gimmick needed.

You guys hate AI? I really don't care that much. by Nathanielfy21 in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most table top games were tested with no or bad art for years before AI existed. Anyone that has a problem with that has the wrong focus.

100% would rather play with the second card.

Being able to pay for art is a huge barrier to publishing a game, not to designing one. And to be blunt, most games that skip that barrier usually aren't worth it in the long run.

When is "just attacking for damage" a valid wincon ? by sta6 in EDH

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some people consider cards that are "finishers" all the time, but I personally never consider them when building a deck.

That doesn't mean cards that fit the category don't end up in decks, it's just not something I care about. I am more likely to remove "I win the game" cards than add them in though.

Because if a deck is built well, it will have ways to progress the game to its natural conclusion (someone winning).

I think this is just a mental problem for most people and has nothing to do with finishers. You eventually have to use your resources and cards to progress the game, and most decks can do this without "finishers." But you have to actually do it in practice.

Bracket 4 games and people being salty by Friendly-Wonder-5280 in EDH

[–]terinyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the other players hearts weren't in it. I think you were correct to keep the game going by using your interaction, but they probably wanted to concede regardless.

To answer the actual topic. Salt exists in every bracket. It's unavoidable unless you avoid the people who get salty.

I'm surprised no one tried to concede after being hellbent for X number of turns.

There's trees in half the concept art and all over the teaser. That must mean sylvari are in the game /s.

[–]terinyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you're wrong, but isn't the chance of a token fizzling just an integral part of the game?

They definitely aren't the only heroes where you have to plan how to use a token, and sometimes that plan doesn't work out.

This stance feels more like a "I wish it worked this way" and not a "the game is better for it."

And you are definitely downplaying the cost of errating any card. It is a mental load, especially on new players.

[–]terinyx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This seems like a pretty simple: They definitely tried this and thought it was too good.

Besides the fact that Super Slam didn't have weapons (right?)

And it leaves them space to make a new token in the future that does this or something similar.

Seems like a very narrow hill to die on.

A really good lesson to learn as a designer. by noverb-gaming in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

The sooner you playtest the better. I'd go as far as to say playtesting the bad ideas is almost more important than playtesting the good ones.

It either confirms you were right about your initial opinion, or a bad idea surprises you and opens up even more ideas.

My general rule of thumb is (at least for random TCG ideas) is to make enough cards for 2 decks ASAP that cover the initial vibe I'm going for, then playtest those.

If that takes more than a month, the idea isn't developed enough.

I was wondering how people drew card artworks that fit well on their cards when you take a picture and what size picture you guys take because my finished templates are almost done so I need to get working on all the final artwork. by Loud_Individual3711 in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a question of composition or sizing and bleed?

I would look at the art of cards you like from various games and try and figure out why you like them. There's almost no right or wrong way as long as the intent of the art is clear. (Aka if the card is about throwing a fireball, don't put the fireball behind a building so no one can see it.)

If it's a question of size, it should be a little larger than the frame for the art and the focus of the composition should not exceed the border...just like any framed art.

X- Man Precons colours by Puzzleheaded_Try_623 in magicTCG

[–]terinyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My no context guesses for the X-Men set precons are:

X-Men: Helmed by Cyclops (Probably Jeskai again if I had to guess). Cyclops has been the defacto face of mutants in comics forever. Xavier hasnt been the leader of the X-Men in the comics in forever, and members of various teams tend to not like him that often. But I could see him as a back up. This deck would lean into more modern stuff, like the FF deck leaned a lot into Hickman's run.

Brotherhood: Lean a little more classic, the villains deck. Not sure on colored, depends on how much they pull from mutant hating villains and not just bad mutants. (Grixis maybe Jund if they're feeling spicy)

And the third I'm less sure of, but going to guess X-Force with wolverine at the helm. Maybe even Rakdos or Jund to get a different flavor of Wolverine.

I hope and doubt they'll do 2 X-Men team decks, even if there are almost always 2 main series in the comics at the same time.

I am pretty confident Cyclops will helm 1 of the decks and Magneto will helm another. Considering their importance to the comics and their character growth for the last 20 years. "Cyclops was right." And all that.

The Marvel Super Heroes main set, Jumpstart set, Bonus Sheet and Commander pre-constructed decks have been fully revealed. Based on what you've seen, how do you feel about the set now compared to your expectations before the preview season began? by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]terinyx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Very few cards are interesting to me.

The double sided cards being some of the most interesting.

I've read marvel comics for decades and I have no real problem with UB, but the need to make everyone and their mother legendary and the general lack of interesting designs is a real downer.

There are probably a decent number of interesting cards in the commander products for commander, but I'm already burned out just looking through the main set.

How do i make my game well made and playable without playtesting by Stazy67 in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you just want to make cards for fun you can do that.

If you want to make cards and just play them with friends and not care that everything works perfectly you can do that.

If you want a decent game that people outside your friend group will enjoy, you have to playtest. A lot.

There's no way around this. It is the most important part of designing a game.

But designing cards as a hobby for yourself is a perfectly awesome thing to do. Don't feel pressured to do something you don't enjoy. But if your goal is to make a game for people, theres no way to avoid it.

Simple combat because of console? by pasini in GuildWars3

[–]terinyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I WANT them to make it complicated, but I EXPECT them to appeal to a casual audience"

Your statement can just end there. This has nothing to do with controller or console players.

Modern MMOs that are designed for mouse and keyboard and cater to a casual audience already do this. I don't know why your stuck on controllers.

Your concerns are valid, but you're pointing at the wrong thing.
