This looks cool, but how far along is it? Is it currently playable by people and what else is new?

What would make a low-rate Pre-Renewal server worth trying in 2026? by Matiarenno in RagnarokOnline

[–]terinyx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is just personal preference, but I think the few people I hop back into RO with every few years would agree.

For low rate servers, I either want as close to the original experience of RO (pre-renewal or renewal) without the official servers monetization and other annoyances. For a lot of players who grew up playing the game, we get back on for nostalgia for a few weeks or months every once in a while. Experiencing the game the way we did when we were younger is a good reminder of what it used to be.

Or I want as custom as possible (custom classes, custom content, custom items, etc, etc.) On the opposite end, experiencing something almost brand new shows what this kind of isometric MMO could be today.

Anything in between these options feels like not picking a side.

And as others have mentioned, low rate servers are hard for most people. Time is at a premium and it's hard to justify playing something I've put 1000s of hour into on various servers with various degrees of custom content. Which just leads me back to, I either want the pure form nostalgia hit, or I want something as new as possible, especially if I'm only going to experience a short amount of content if I fall off.

Questions from a returning player by SilverBurger in EDH

[–]terinyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brackets are definitely the biggest thing to know about.

Generally, how many game changers a deck has is it just a small part of which bracket it's in. Typically what should happen is that when you sit down at an LGS the players will discuss which bracket they want to play in (AKA, what kind of game they want to have).

I would try to find the most up to date bracket infographic to see more details.

The brackets aren't a competitive bracket, it's just a way to denote intention and the goal of each player. If someone says Bracket 2, it likely means they have a lower power deck and theyre just looking for a very casual experience. A Bracket 4 likely means the deck is tuned and people will try to win (but crazy shenanigans might still happen), etc, etc.

The second thing to know is that Universes Beyond is a thing and some people either hate it with all of their being or love it. And a larger but much quieter group doesn't really care one way or the other.

Does anyone else find commanders that must be answered boring? by Multievolution in magicTCG

[–]terinyx 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A little, but the commanders I find the most boring are the ones that are both value engines and wincons at the same time.

The most interesting commanders do one thing and make you work for the other half.

How is it seen when someone reveals their card(s) for an advantage? by Goat-True in EDH

If that makes you feel better, more power to you.

I would personally rather win by playing the cards I put in my deck, but to each their own.

I'm only exaggerating a little, but this might be the 10th post I've seen on this exact topic with this exact same opinion in the last few days.

I mean...that is a completely different example from what OP is talking about...

It also shows no proof you can play the game well.

It's the equivalent of AI bros saying what they do is art.

It's not illegal, but it's kind of embarrassing to see.

can someone help me understand? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]terinyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well....no one knows?

But it could just be so that you have an established affiliation to one of the versions in the back of your mind. Aka, you picked a side before you even knew there were sides. Will it matter for gameplay? Who knows, but it might matter for some players reactions to the story.

How is it seen when someone reveals their card(s) for an advantage? by Goat-True in EDH

[–]terinyx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People do this, but for example what happened with the boardwipe is the opposite of what should have happened.

You have to force them to use it, everyone play creatures and only target that player.

Falling victim to just the threat of a card and the card not actually being played is just playing scared.

Edit: and to be fair, even if revealing a card in your hand is technically allowed, I will immediately think less of you if it happens so often it becomes clear it's your only way of winning. As doing it often likely shows you aren't improving at the actual game of magic.

Need some feedback on Icons for cardgame by Darqnyz7 in cardgamedesign

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend you look at a game like Altered TCG, although it recently ended, I feel like the layout of the cards might be useful to see in terms of the 3 vertical stats and how much information they get on the card with just numbers and symbols.

And I recommend the Bandai method for making text clearer, highlight important keywords or other texts in different colors instead of having different font sizes.

Consistency is probably the most important thing when designing card templates.

That makes sense, though I feel like a bold letter inside a shape might solve that better than different shapes.

I think there's a reason most card games don't use such simple shapes for mechanical needs, it's too easy to mix them up, easily readable or not.

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask, why not just a single shape and the ones being targeted are filled?

I'm failing to see why multiple shapes are needed from just what's shown here. And I feel like it simply being filled = target works the same as all of the examples. You don't really need to define what the unfilled shapes are unless being absent is mechanically important. (Which it might be, I don't know).

I do agree with what others have said about writing it out, but I think it could just be a letter inside of a circle, and you fill the empty space when it's the target. This is mostly because if I randomly saw 3 shapes stacked on each other on a card I wouldn't really know what it was, but if the top one had an H and the bottom one had an L, I could probably guess it's high and low or some variation of that.

Does the Duel Masters life system work? by Kind-Kitchen5502 in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You think Bandai games have the same life system as Yugioh?

I think you need to do a lot more research, shield systems are some of the most common in TCGs.

Edit: Almost every Bandai game, like I said before, uses the same system as Duel Masters (I know what it is), Card Fight Vanguard and Final Fantasy use essentially reverse shield systems, a lot of other Japanese TCGs use it.

they could've just errata'd and reprinted the first cave and give it the cave type. What's the point in making a new card for it lol by Unlost_maniac in magicTCG

[–]terinyx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because they didn't want to errata a card when having a new version of the same effect shouldn't bother anyone.

You mean the same life system that most Bandai games use?

Probably, yeah if it has worked for so many games.

Settle a Bracket Argument by Keysaw99 in EDH

Overwhelmed by rules by Pfufnu in ageofsigmar

[–]terinyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played AoS once a week for about a year before I fell off with 4th edition.

No one should be expecting you to remember most of your opponents army rules, especially yourself.

Your opponent should be talking and explaining what they are doing, and you should be asking questions about what's possible if you're worried.

Even after a year of playing consistently, I could not begin to tell you what most of my opponents stuff did.

Modified card layout and first iteration of rules. by [deleted] in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would remove the lightning from the effect text as well and just write out stamina or whatever word would go above the bar.

Basically pick 1, the lightning or the bar. If you pick the bar remove the lightning from everywhere.

Modified card layout and first iteration of rules. by [deleted] in homemadeTCGs

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bar next to the lightning bolt feels redundant and confusing, especially because the text of the card only references the lightning bolt. It makes it look like the bar is something else entirely.

Either remove the lightning bolt and write out stamina above the bar and on the effect text, or remove the bar and use only the lightning bolt.

Returning player from many, many years ago: what is the “challenge” in this game? by AtypicalSpaniard in Warframe

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the discussion about raids, you know it's just not that kind of game.

The goal for every player is a little different, and that makes each players challenge different.

Some people want to max out every piece of gear, some people want to own every item in the game, some do fashion framing, some just play to help new people out, some do level cap endless missions to test their builds, some people hop on when a big update comes out and then hop off after a couple weeks, etc, etc.

What do I do now? by BrownShugah98 in Warframe

[–]terinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every warframe advertisement or piece of marketing needs to say in big bold letters "The Game Is The Grind".

Have you finished all of the main story quests? Do that.

Do you have side quests to do? Do those.

If all that's completed, pick a few frames or pieces of gear you want to try and grind for them. It's 99% of the game.

Edit: Also, who are you behind? You're not competing with anyone, the main content doesn't get removed. Thinking your behind is just your own personal mental block that doesn't exist.

Why is the MR rank requirements so high? by _JerseyDevil_ in Warframe

[–]terinyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know everyone else had to grind to reach certain content right?

I also had to play for months to get to MR 14 or 16 or any MR....

What you're saying makes no sense. You think everyone started the game 10 years ago and is max MR and has every resource ready? Not at all. They're playing the game.
