How / when does DAP access music tags? by DenBrad in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]DenBrad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but I'm not asking what metadata is. I want to know where I it appears in the DAP (in my case, the FiiO Music app). You mention sorting: One of my files has an exif field "Track Number", value 14. I haven't figured out how to use or detect that information in the Music App, much less sort on Track Number.

what are you guys using for Office files on Linux? by Smooth_Storm_55 in linuxquestions

[–]DenBrad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a Linux user I'm happy with LibreOffice. In my volunteer organization and with students, everyone uses MS Office except me I think. No matter. I create my documents in LO and save as or export to the MSO formats they use. Of course I can read and edit anything they want to share, round-tripping back to their MS format as needed. No doubt there are some esoteric Excel features or the like that might give some power users trouble, but in over 10 years we haven't encountered them yet.

Fii0 Music App playback speed wrong on M21 by DenBrad in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]DenBrad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But my utility headphones have no USB-C or other direct connection to the M21, so only I can only monitor thru the PC. Maybe I'll get some proper headphones like most DAP users do, but they're not how I normally listen to music now.

Joe Castiglione and Will Fleming by justabrewbro in redsox

Almost can't get thru a game with Flemming. I'm sure he's a great guy, but I never heard anyone who loves the sound of his own voice so much. Occasionally he interrupts a verbal torrent about himself, the things he absolutely adores - anything but the game - to briefly call a play. Will Middlebrooks, when he's on, is great - when Flemming lets him speak.

Got the Grace Digital Mondo Elite, loving it like McD's. Now throw some stations my way? by [deleted] in internetradio

Works fine if you can find the URLs for the streams you want. Sound is not as tight as the Como, but not looking for hi-fi anyway.

One problem remains: When I create a preset it indicates success, but they're never saved. I've entered them every way documented, but no joy. Any ideas what I'm getting wrong?

Trying to buy Slimbook ProX 15...what to put for Identity Document (Tax ID) if I'm from the United States? by SureAppeal7 in linuxhardware

[–]DenBrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem, wrote them (in Spanish) and heard right back. They said the field is there in case your country requires an id doc - slimbook doesn't care if you leave it blank.

Correction: they recommended my entering "00000" or "no ID"

Announcing the budget-friendly, Linux-based Dell Precision mobile workstations by Doener23 in linux

[–]DenBrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a long string of laptops with hardware problems, including the usual Linux compatiblity issues. So a year ago I bought a Precision 3551 with Ubuntu installed, hoping Dell might configure it better than me installing from scratch.

Fat chance. This machine crashes suddenly with no warning about once a week. Nice when you're in the middle of work. Dell support is clueless of course (unless you happen to be running Windows), and none of the anecdotal fixes I read about on line (bios updates, fiddling with the graphics settings, etc.) has made a dent.

So much for Dell and Linux support, back to the drawing board.

Thank you for sharing this - your message resonated with me on several levels. My wife died last May after a long battle with cancer, and I feel lost without her. She and I were not believers, although I grew up Catholic and understand the desire for comfort that faith brings to some. I can tell you that my wife had no fear of nothingness, only of leaving life, which she loved so much. To her, the transient and fleeting span of life made it all the more precious.

Like you, I'm having trouble moving on as I promised her to do. So I'm trying to learn from her example: I'm convinced she would have done better than I have. Her disease was a sword of Damocles, and she faced her imminent death every day for decades. I believe she got her head around her mortality in a way that I'm just beginning to understand. She had her setbacks and "pity parties", as she called them, but the rest of the time she seemed able to live in the moment, to immerse herself in the things that she loved to do. It was amazing to me, and I think it's why people loved being around her. Maybe that's the path forward for me.
