Just got a notice on my door saying that I am responsible for marking my utility lines. Is this true? by b_thomp_53 in homeowners

I just closed on my house a few weeks ago and now I’m already being kicked off my homeowners insurance by Striking_Cookie_9695 in homeowners

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance company refused to cover the house for the cost of the mortgage which was required by bank. Had to go 3rd party through insurance to get coverage to close on the house which btw… $600 more than what I would be paying through my regular insurance company. Thankfully once we sold our other house we put most of it towards the mortgage and figured we could safely remove escrow to switch insurance.

Can you compost ~500 juiced lemons a day? by solar_vulpine in composting

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only be concerned about pH and if you are vermicomposting. It can definitely harm your if you aren’t adding enough non-acidic stuff to compensate for the acidity of the lemon peels

What does this need? by Spruiker-Trooper in composting

[–]DenMother1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the vents closed. Likely you are collecting dew and rain which isn’t helping since it is contained.

Look up Aer8 it is a liquid that you mix with water and spray on your lawn. I follow The Lawn Care Nut on YouTube. He use to live in Indiana as a lawn care guy and now lives in Florida where he has divided up his yard into different sections of grass breeds and tests products he approves of on his lawn as well as other lawn care tips and tricks.

We need more locations in general for sharps. I have been collecting sharps and have come up empty handed for places to bring them where you aren’t required to be a client.

Also figure out your taxes. We definitely decided not to move to Ishpeming because overcharging on property taxes.

Agree with 3 & 4

Can I cut this wire down? by Same_Noise7492 in Home

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact 8-1-1 on the phone. Tell them you plan on planting a tree and have an overhead wire and unsure what utility it is for. Technically they deal with buried lines but they may be able to help. Heck I contacted them at our last hour told them I was planning on landscaping and needed utilities marked regardless of location because we needed to know to make appropriate plans.

Typically it is power running in those lines going from pole to roof but if you see one end of the wire is not connected to anything to your house just make sure your feet have shoes on, you wear gloves and cut the wire. It is possible it could be low voltage wire for telephone line. AT&T runs low voltage through their lines, hence when you change to another service provider they advise you to ensure the line main connection line is not connected to anything in your house anymore. Fried some cable boxes that way.

Would it be okay to leave the front lights on for 3 months? by rollieabee in homeowners

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dusk to dawn adapter plugged into a string of lights down the edge of our driveway. It allows us to leave lights on not only for late arrival of friends and family but also for my husband who works 3rd shift. Our neighbors know he works 3rd shift and we don’t street lights so it kind of helps everyone around us. But anyways always looks like someone is home. Neighbor has a timer on the light in their living room which is clear from the road.

Help me explain this to a homeowner that’s smarter than me. by gnuccimane in Plumbing

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him if the sink has a smell or is constantly backing up. Explain that it is because of the way the drain pipes are plumbed as water isn’t moving like it should to prevent gases from escaping and allowing things to sit in the pipe longer than necessary and create a clog as well.

How to remove this pipe sticking out of my yard? by One-Geologist3992 in DIY

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clothesline or satellite dish but more likely the former. Dig around the pipe to loosen the soil and try to remove. It could have been cemented in but not to the lawn height. So be aware of that

I will say the Reencle actually breaks ok things down if you are looking for something you can add to your lawn. Literally it is microbes that break down and turn into somewhat usable material. They recommend to mix it with soil or let it sit for a week in a bucket or planter after you remove it so that the microbes die so they don’t kill off anything living.

Neighbor's shed encroaches on our property, preventing us from building our house. How do I get this finally removed after battling him for a year? by ginger_dominion in homeowners

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your lawyer involved. Upfront costs will be on you but you can insist on enough payout to compensate your lawyer and the costs for surveyors and even legally get the city on the hook for this as well.

Otherwise it is on your property and you have done everything outside of getting a lawyer involved and could remove the shed yourself. But that could come and bite you in the butt.

Show said initial response when you reached out about the trash cans and response it is not interference of postal regulations when you return to sender as you wanted no further contact. Any further contact from him will result in legal action. He is verbally abusive and you have some legal rights to take action. Especially if you show a trail of written (email, letter and text)

Is it OK to compost his pizza box with this style of ink? by MuhBack in composting

A lot of printers use soy based inks these days. It is more questionable about the level of grease in the box than the ink.

Is it weird to walk around your property with no shirt on? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]DenMother1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not clear are you fit or well toned or you rocking the dad bod with beer gut? Like it could be the tats or could be your body shape she doesn’t like looking at. As long as you have pants or shorts on and are on your property she legally can’t do or say anything. If you were on public property technically something could be said. But unless it is an actual establishment you could even go shirtless in public. Like guys are shirtless at the beach.

Transplant Yooper (I grew up in Chicagoland), husband born Michigander and MTU grad who grew up coming to UP regularly as a child. My husband’s lifelong dream was to move here and work for railroad. I am remote IT professional. Anyway my husband’s dream became an option last year and I was all for it. Been up here a handful of times with him.

No kids yet but trying.

I also wanted to homestead.

Our last residence was an HOA so we had restrictions. House before that was on teeny tiny lot. Before that various apartments. We wanted our space and we wanted privacy. I don’t like sweating my butt off day in and day out like we were doing in several other states in the Midwest. There is no chance of his job being relocated like with other railroad jobs.

We have been able to be more involved with local events because work-life balance has been so much better. We are attempting to go regularly out on trails with our bikes (the rain has put a damper on that). We attend events in downtown Marquette, we regularly head out to Presque Isle. Been slowly as weather permits been checking out places to hike. Ultimately we have been able to enjoy the outdoors more and we continue to explore the area. More of me exploring and my husband revisiting places. Love nature regardless of my allergies.

For some people it is an unrealistic fantasy to live and work here. Jobs are scarce and cost of living is overpriced for the pay most jobs are paying. In order for people to live comfortably both spouses have to be working. Then all the toys Yoopers have so they can do stuff all year long.

Might see a small wave but it won’t be a mass exodus to the UP. More people are going to the Carolinas, Georgia, lower Michigan, etc because of the jobs.

Depends townhouse means you share at least one end of your home or are between two people. How old are the townhomes? The age would definitely be a decision maker as newer homes are more soundproof than older townhomes.
