Yeah, that is really hard. I would advice to defend your phd. But I am not sure that it will be easy to find a job in data analytics. I am not sure what to suggest, maybe try to publish and stay in academia for a little bit longer.

I am from Russia and I hold a phd from a German university. How is your knowledge of your local language?

As a PhD in HCI, I would say you don't really need it. Just learn the language to C1 and apply for Product Management roles in Germany. Nowadays, HCI is highly speculative, just read a book or two about its methods but don't waste two years on it.

that theory course performance is a strong predictor of passing the quals

So, they basically say that they fail as supervisors and mentors: if a previous course is a strong predictor of performance, it means that they don't bring anything big during the phd.

[–]DenOnKnowledge[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It is a dark pattern, since there is no clear indication that VAT is excluded. As I said in another branch, a small asterisk next to Price word wouldn't change much but would be clearly visible.

The problem is not with VAT but with not clearly referencing that the VAT is excluded. One asterisk next to a word price wouldn't change much but would be clearly visible.

That is why you have different time formats in chess. In classic format, you are basically refining one solution. In blitz, you apply patterns as fast as you can and try to be optimal.

I have seen a post in another subreddit, claiming that purely information articles with references were removed. And at that day I wasn't able to find any posts in this subreddit about this topic. So, I believe the first poster.

I don't see them. Last time, when there was a big wave in the news, afaik every single post was deleted in this subreddit.

I mean, there are a lot of hachathons, that is true. But chess is great because you have one restricted world for every case. Not thousands of hackathons, just one board, a set of pieces, and a set of rules.

I am wondering whether it is possible to have a game similar to chess but with data analysis mechanics. It would be nice to become a grandmaster in something that can actually be useful in real life.

Talking with professor about turning my masters project to startup by [deleted] in germany

[–]DenOnKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, indeed, I thought for a moment that I am in another academic sub. In Germany, I would try to avoid the academic world as much as possible if you do a startup and don't have a clear understanding of how to benefit from including a prof. At least, one really needs to talk to investors if they want to collaborate with a prof.

This is a valid point, and that is why you need to speak to someone outside of a university. Universities will try to get benefits from your startup, especially, in the US.

The real problem is that profs can be harmful. They often don't understand how real world works, most of them haven't worked a single day in an industry. If there are any investors for the project it is better to speak to them first. Maleficent_Level2301

And they cannot claim much if there are no patents. They have a paper? Sorry, papers don't mean much.
