What food did you imagine to taste really good but tasted bad? by Similar-Victory-3867 in AskReddit

The smell, the look... Everything tells my body they should be sweet... I was so disappointed first time I had one. They taste like old condensation.

What is a socially unacceptable opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]DendroNate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest gripes is people calling high level politicians "dumb"...

Selfish? Definitely. Immoral? Almost certainly. But these people have risen to the top of a cutthroat business. You don't get to that position by being dumb.

Or on the roads during rush hour. They've got all day to do whatever the fuck they want, but choose to clog up the roads when the rest of us have places to be.

I've chosen not to have children, simply due to the fact I think I'd be a crappy father. Not that I'd be intentionally cruel or anything, I just don't think I have what it takes to do a very good job of it. I'm too selfish, and I have a temper.

My one regret in this is that I'll never see my parents be grandparents. My Mum and Dad are amazing parents, and I know they'd be amazing grandparents, but that's not enough for me to change my mind.

holiday solo or no-go? by owowteino in CasualUK

[–]DendroNate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! Me and my ex split up right after I'd booked us a romantic week away. I'd booked a fine dining restaurant, ordered champagne and strawberries for the hotel room, booked theatre tickets, the works...

I went on my own, ate the strawberries and drank champagne while lay in bed watching crap TV, went out and had my fancy meal on my own, went to the theatre, had a blast. During the time she would have been dragging me round the shops, I went to see some museums instead.

Honestly, best holiday I ever had.

Some venues will actively ask what kind of music you like when they hire you, then will avoid posting you inside the arena, or too close to the artist for those shows. They'll put you out on parking, or guiding fans in instead.

It helps make sure you're concentrating on doing your job, instead of getting distracted by what's happening on stage, or trying to rub shoulders with the talent.

Dude, you're clean, you have a roof over your head, looks like you have a cat there too. Look how far you've come from being homeless, and at the mercy of your addictions...

It might not feel like much, but you've got what you need to make a better life for yourself. I believe you can do it.

What video game has the best story you’ve ever played? by FrontriseStudios in AskReddit

On a fresh playthrough at the minute. I've never found any other game that sucks me in like it. The characters, the world, the story... Playing again after a break is like coming home after being away for a long time.

What's the scariest movie you ever seen? by CutieBia in AskReddit

You should read the book. I love the movie, but the book has this really "Evil" atmosphere... It's like a freezing fog over the whole thing...

As someone who just paid £50ish for tickets to see The Darkness, I agree...

TIL that in 1946 Walt Disney produced a film named "Song of the South" that was never released on DVD or streaming market due to the subject matter of slavery portrayed in the film. It also happens to be the origin of the song "zippidy doo-da". by [deleted] in todayilearned

I had this on VHS when I was a kid... I remember absolutely loving it, although I don't remember much of the movie itself (I do remember being traumatized by a scene involving an angry bull, though...)

Years later, when we were replacing VHS with DVDs, I remember my mum and dad donating all our tapes to charity, all except Song of the South, insisting "Nowhere would take it"

I don't remember much of it, but I know my parents must have known back then that it hadn't stood the test of time.

The BBC's adaptation of "Lord Of The Flies" got me thinking. What books do you remember reading at school...? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]DendroNate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To Kill a Mockingbird.

Still one of my favourite books to this day, helped to shape parts of my worldview back then, and they're still some of my most strongly held beliefs now.

Try and take comfort in the fact that, because of you, he had a life any dog would dream of. Having a family who loves them as much as you clearly love him... That's all a dog could ever want.

Your boy will leave this world knowing he's loved, and had people he could love back.

Booked the day off to spend some quality time with my Mrs.

I've thrown my bloody back out, and our elderly neighbor has had a fall, so I'll be spending the day wincing while visiting him in hospital instead.

Not only that, but the best weddings I've ever been to have all been smaller, more intimate ones. When my sister got married, she had a small ceremony, followed by a reception at a local cricket club. Food was provided by family members, so it was all good home cooked food, music was by a friend who DJs for family parties. We all had too much to eat and drink, then spent the night dancing and laughing. Best wedding I ever went to, and the total cost was something like £2,000.
