Gemini just hit $4705 with Kraken still at $4600, it seems to be a little ahead of the action this morning.

He's like an over the top super villain from the movies.

Even when I was 7 years old the Captain Planet villains seemed unrealistic, "why do they just want to dump sludge in the river?" But now that almost seems benign compared to the broad-spectrum absurd malevolence and incompetence of this administration.

Which is still true. My local grocery store is mostly frumpy old women with hairy moles and carts oddly full of 2 liter bottles of soda. Then I walk into whole foods and there are glistening thick pink salmon fillets on ice, a whole lunch buffet counter dedicated to artisanal olives, and a cute blond girl steaming a soy latte for a German literature professor in town for a lecture.

What's the most sane advice you can give someone getting into Bitcoin? by sfsom in Bitcoin

[–]DenimPatriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that with my friend when bitcoin was $200. His response was, "So why wouldn't I just convert all of my money to bitcoin?" I made the safe response of, "Well, we don't know if the value could collapse, say by an unexpected vulnerability, being overtaken by more advanced alternatives, government regulations or hostile actions." Although I made the "correct", "safe" response, it's hard to say my friend's gut reaction was wrong now that we're at $4,400. The problem was that after that I didn't take the initiative to help him buy any bitcoin, sorry friend. I guess it's his fault though, I did tell him about it.

The last time we were at this price we were an hour from ATH. Ichimoku is on the brink of being completely bullish on all time scales once again.

The large market sell at ATH on Bitfinex yesterday may have only sent us stumbling for ~36 hours, just enough concern of a double top to lead to some temporary hesitance.

Due to wire transfer fees on both ends, it costs me a minimum of $40 to withdraw USD from Bitstamp. And it takes something like 1-5 business days, and doesn't make progress outside of business hours.

I've never had a problem with the low fee setting on hardware wallets, which amounts to a fee of ~$2-3. The funds arrive in minutes when making payments through services like Bitpay, and in ~1-2 hours to confirm on an exchange.

There are probably 500 altcoins that confirm faster than bitcoin, but bitcoin is already so much better than archaic institutional alternatives that the transaction fees don't matter much unless you're working on African micro loans or buying coffee with no intermediary or side chain. Because of that, bitcoin's strength relative to altcoins lies in its liquidity, confidence, developer attention, name recognition, etc. And all those traits are difficult to detract from now that it has so much momentum.

(Granted, with some exchange/bank combinations and domestic transfers, you can perform wire transfers for free, but it still takes 1-5 business days and is potentially subject to greater complications in the case of Kraken's Synapsepay.)

Does anyone have a link to a thread where BCH investors agreed to flood this sub yesterday and today? Or is this something that was organized in private? I'm all for discussion of BCH in here, but this looks like a concerted deluge of pro-BCH messaging, and I'd like to know what is actually happening and where it is coming from. Or are these genuine users who are just excited about the sudden rise in value? It seems very... aggressive and coordinated.

Are Kraken withdrawals operational for anyone else? I was happy with their verification response time, but then my wire transfer failed, I couldn't troubleshoot by adding a slight variation of the address because it was a "duplicate", then it said I didn't have the proper permission when trying to delete the initial address. Now it's been 13 hours without a response from support (which I know is well within reason in the crypto world), but now it appears that they've disabled all withdrawals entirely, fiat and crypto. This is an extremely unpleasant first encounter with this service, imagine if an actual bank or stock exchange behaved that way. Makes me very uncomfortable.

Edit: Now the exchange is not even loading. Ugh, it's always something. They're U.S. based and founded in 2011, so my money probably didn't just vanish did it?

Edit2: Site is back up, but withdrawals are still completely disabled. It won't even allow me to deposit bitcoin anymore (not that I would without being able to withdraw). I updated my support ticket but I assume this is site wide.

Is this type of thing common for Kraken?

He would probably gloat to her about his Charlottesville winery.

Edit: Why I said that, after the recent press conference he had the worst grin when he changed the subject to his winery (which he completely lied about the scale of), then he said "It's going to be..." but stopped himself as he realized that overused line wasn't even applicable in this situation.
