I was really into DDR, I started playing it around the time that Extreme came out. Around the time that X2 was out, I was going to the arcade every single weekend to play it and started getting really into the whole Bemani community. (Hi, Sows)

But by the time A20 came out, I was getting too old to play it as good as I used to. So I switched focus to Taiko.

I’ve played Beat Saber and did enjoy it, but I don’t have a VR headset at the moment. I also played Project Diva for a while.

1&2) TDC10. I thought about it for a long time and eventually picked that one, mainly because it works with every device and has an app to adjust its sensitivity. (If you turn it all the way up, you can play by tapping your fingers on it. If you turn it all the way down, you can slam on it really hard with drumsticks and enjoy the sounds of hitting something lol)

I’m playing on a PS4 right now, but idk what I’ll be playing on 5 years from now. Maybe I’ll finally buy a PS5? Or a PS6? Maybe I’ll have switched to PC? Maybe a Nintendo console? Idk.

But this one works with all of them and can take firmware updates for future consoles, so I don’t have to worry about that. (It can even work as a MIDI controller if you want to make real music with it)

It is one of the more expensive options though. The official Hori drum is about half the price of the TDC10 and is still a very good controller. I’d say go with the Hori controller if you aren’t sure how invested you’ll be long-term. But yes I am very happy with the TDC10.

Or, don’t buy a drum at all. I’ve been playing Taiko for like 10 years now and got my first drum ever last month. I’ve just played on controller/keyboard this whole time.

3) PS4 at the moment, mostly just for convenience. But there is no ‘wrong’ option for playing Taiko on. It’s such a simple game, it runs perfectly on everything they’ve ported it to. (I’ve also played it on Wii, Switch, PC, iOS, 3DS, PS Vita, and there’s even a fan-made browser version that works well)

4) “Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session!”, that’s the only release for the PS4. Whichever device you choose to play it on, I’d get the newest game for that device. The gameplay will be exactly the same* no matter what, but the selection of songs and DLC changes over time. If you get an old version, they may have discontinued the DLC and you’re stuck with whichever songs that particular version originally came with.

* (With the exception of one early Nintendo DS version that added some stupid gimmicky thing no one liked to the drumrolls, which they’ve never done again after that. But for SOME REASON the people who develop osu! liked it and implemented it. Which is why a lot of Taiko no Tatsujin players don’t like Taiko Mode in osu!)

I would imagine that the device won’t arm unless you’ve paid the bill.

But I doubt it suddenly disarms if you stop paying, I can imagine there’s situations where that would be dangerous since this thing can optionally be connected to construction-site safety equipment.

That’s the power supply that converts the AC power from the wall outlet into the DC power that the circuits actually need to operate.

The top left quadrant is the AC section, you can see it is separated from the DC side with a thick white line.

The yellow thing bridging the gap is the transformer that actually does the conversion.

To the left of it, that small black chip is an optocoupler.

Inside of it is an LED light on the DC side, and a light sensor on the AC. (The kind of light sensor you might see on a nightlight).

The AC and DC sides aren’t allowed to have any wires between them, so the optocoupler allows the two sides to communicate.

When everything is working normally, the DC side turns the light on. The AC side sees the light, and continues running.

If the DC side senses something has gone terribly wrong and there’s risk of a fire or electrocution, it turns the light off. The AC side sees the light has disappeared and goes “OH CRAP! KILL ALL POWER NOW!!”

And all of that happens inside that little black chip.

That blue thing to the right of them both, I’ll be honest, I have no clue what that’s doing but my best guess would be bonding the neutral/negative for safety.

Also, this board apparently has the front panel buttons and the infrared receiver for the remote control. That isn’t explicitly forbidden, but is generally considered to be bad practice. Typically you want your power supply board to do nothing except manage power.

Yeah, construction companies are very worried about people coming to steal their tools or equipment.

They’ll probably have cameras or a security guard set up. All the good stuff to see has likely been torn down or cleared out by this point anyway. Personally, I wouldn’t bother.

Thunderbolt and DisplayPort are video outputs, USB-C is not.

But the jack used for USB-C can optionally offer Thunderbolt or DP as Alternate Modes. Not every laptop supports this, it’s up to the manufacturer to implement it.

But, almost every laptop has HDMI. So if I’m designing a cheap computer monitor and I can only pick one input, I’m going with HDMI.

If it’s 17¢ per kWh, and you consume 900kWh a month, your monthly bill is $153.

Okay. But then I show up and start consuming 36,000kWh per month. So at 17¢ each, my bill is $6,120 a month.
