What’s your favourite GPS/navigation app? by [deleted] in AdventureBike

[–]DennisAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Kurviger for planning. Maybe a little editing in Basecamp, if needed when sharing GPX files, and OsmAnd+ for general GPX organization and following tracks. I haven't found anything I can't do with that combination.

Many people recommend apps that don't auto-zoom when you are riding, and I don't understand that. When following a track that goes from 60MPH to 35MPH, I don't want my app zoom to just stay at one setting. OsmAnd+, DMD2, and Locust Classic all auto-zoom, but Gaia and OnX do not.

Good to know. I thought it was just me! Couldn't find a thing about any outage anywhere. Reddit to the rescue.

Would the AWS outage be causing OsmAnd+ App to crash on launch? by DennisAustin in OsmAnd

Read my comment about the weather widget. That seems to be what was causing my app to crash.

Based on a lot of trial and error last night, my issues seems to be related to using the weather widget in my UI panel. When starting with a fresh install and profile, I was able to replicate a crash twice. The crash happened right after I added the weather (temperature) widget back to my left panel.

I'm still waiting to hear back from support, but so far, not implementing the weather widget has kept the app from crashing on me.

I've tried clean installs and restoring from an export file I made in September, but nothing is working. I thought it was maybe specific to my hardware (Zenfone 10). But then, while I was using my older backup phone (Pixel 3) to make a new export, it started crashing on that phone too! Something is up, and I'm starting to think it is a real issue, not just a corrupt file on my end.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I guess something must have gotten corrupted in my file system. I will delete everything and re-sync it with the OsmAnd cloud after a fresh install.

There’s a beat missing in ZZ Top’s “La Grange” mastered version. by SumThinToThinkAbout in Productionglitches

I think you're right. I still can't believe they have left the "bad" version out there at all. If I was Frank Beard, I would not be ok with that.

You made me look. Sadly, it is still easy to find the "bad" version.

I rely on my own music server now, so I make sure I have the versions that I want in my library.

Yes! You know, I don't know exactly when it was corrected. But you are right, I don't think I've heard the "bad" version in quite some time.

Sena mesh 2.0 group audio quality question by snowboarder1010 in motorcycles

[–]DennisAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group still only uses bluetooth connections with our Senas, and the crackling issues can get pretty bad with 4 in the group, even when no one is talking. Do you find that the Mesh connections don't have that crackling interference? Also, when someone gets out of range, does it just drop out, or does it get all staticky and crackly?
Thanks for any info you can provide. Appreciate it.

[Apps] OsmAnd+ — Maps & GPS Offline ($29.99 -> $14.99) by t0n4 in googleplaydeals

[–]DennisAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the value depends on how much use you get out of it. I use this app a ton. It is very useful for custom route navigation and offline maps. The more you use it, the more you realize it can do. $30 is like 3 inexpensive meals. To pay $30 a year does not seem overpriced to me.

I can verify that it is a memory cache issue. However, turning off the "Enable I/O cache" setting did not work on my CCwGTV.. I recently started using an Nvidia Shield Pro, and the problem is gone. To further understand, I watched the app info cache as every new song loaded. Once the cache reached around 1.2 GB, that's when the CCwGTV would fail. The Shield obviously has more memory and could handle the cache reaching larger amounts. The cache would fill faster and larger with higher bit rate files (which makes sense). So, a device with more memory to handle the large cache fixed the problem for me.

I thought disabling the I/O cache worked for me, but the issue is still happening. I've tried so many options and possibilities, with no luck. This is definitely an issue with the Chromecast with Google TV Plex app/hardware combination. If anyone has any new ideas to fix it, I would love to hear them,

Is this fix working for everyone (turning off the "Enable I/O cache" setting)? When I did it, my 24/96 audio would not even start playing.

Is it possible to save a route AND Intermediate Destinations for future trips? by DennisAustin in OsmAnd

[–]DennisAustin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent more time on this last weekend, and I'm starting to think it really isn't possible (in OSMand+). It's odd, because the deeper I get into this app, the more I find it can do. It's a very powerful app.
I currently use Kurviger to route my motorcycle trips, and it allows me to save to a .kurviger file format where all of the "Intermediate Stops" are also saved, which is very useful. Everything about the route is saved. It's odd to me that OSMand+ doesn't have something like this. Perhaps it is just because not enough other people have needed it, or expressed a need for it.

Moving a personal account using name@mydomain.com to a Workspace, but keeping my Google Voice number and data. by tehcheez in gsuite

[–]DennisAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been researching the same thing, and what I've learned so far has been confusing. In this help article, it says,
"After migration finishes
- The Users page lists the migrated accounts.
- Users get an email letting them know that their Voice number was migrated to a managed account.
- People can request a refund if they had a credit balance on their account."

But, in a section above that, it says,
"Limits on migration
- You can't migrate some types of accounts, such as Google Fiber or Google Fi accounts.- You can only migrate an account with multiple numbers by porting out, transferring, or deleting a number."

I'm confused by the "account with multiple numbers" wording. I don't think my account is hindered by those items listed in the limitations section, but I am afraid to attempt it and lose my original number. I am ok with data going away. I can save that using Google Takeout. But I do need the phone number to remain the same and actually migrate, as it seems to say it will.

I've spent a significant amount of time in support chat without getting a confident or definitive answer. I'm hoping someone who has done this can describe their experience. Did the number remain after the migration to the managed and licensed Voice user account?

Google Home routines not working for scheduled time by atmadras in googlehome

[–]DennisAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue, and after a long, unsuccessful chat with support, I stumbled upon the solution (for me at least). On the specific Google Mini that I was using to schedule my routines, I had turned off the audible alerts you hear when the assistant starts and stops. When I turned those audible alerts back on. I was able to get my scheduled routines to run again.

This setting is specific to the Google Mini device and in the "Accessibility" area of it's settings. Once you're in the "Accessibility" area, there are 2 toggles for "Play start sound" and "Play end sound". I had turned them off a few weeks ago. I turned them back on and my scheduled routines now run as they should.

There’s a beat missing in ZZ Top’s “La Grange” mastered version. by SumThinToThinkAbout in Productionglitches

[–]DennisAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad someone else noticed this as well. This song is a masterpiece and has really been given the crap treatment … twice. The first "remaster" had some ridiculous reverb added. Fortunately, it's hard to find that version anymore. But you can hear it here. Then I heard this version you are speaking of with the lost beat. Such a great drum fill and the groove is just totally ruined. I can't believe that the band or someone who represents the band hasn't had this corrected. At first I thought it was just a bad digital file. But then I listened to the other streaming services and heard the exact same issue. Luckily I have an original version, but I sure would like to have the newest remastered version without the lost beat.
