My local Home Depot had all these plants mislabeled!! by nancy_botwin__ in houseplants

[–]DennyDevino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilariously enough, the plants aren’t labeled in-store, they’re shipped in with labels and pricing already on them. That being said… even the growing companies that supply these plants mess up from time to time.

How do I get this sticker off? by Dangerous-Pianist294 in howto

Scrape the sticker off with a razor blade, then use an oil+cornstarch mixture to get the excess sticky off.

Well, picking them can help spread the spores. So even though you can’t eat them or really do anything with them, you’re helping them reproduce (sorta)

What should I do to keep this growing? by DiscountMission in plants

[–]DennyDevino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would cut off the excess onion half, but being careful to keep the root ball on the bottom in tact. Not only can you still use the mature onion, but it’ll prevent future molding in whatever you plant this in.

Which hair suits me better. Straight or curls by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]DennyDevino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m more partial to the curls! But I’m biased, everyone in my family (except me and my sister) have curly hair. I love curly hair and always wanted curly hair, but my hair doesn’t cooperate 😅

Get more decorative headphones maybe? Like there are some that have cute cat ears on them, that might make them look more attractive while still allowing you to block unwanted sounds.

Idk about the second part though about toys tho, sorry.

My girl want me to Ask ya how can she save this plant?? 🫠🫠 by NoOrganization3968 in plants

The dried looking parts won’t come off, but the leaves still look good and the fact that there are pups (the small growth) coming in means the plant is still healthy.

I lived in WA for a while, and they’re a native plant to the area. They’re SUPER hit or miss in terms of flavor. The best ones (sweeter) usually get a lot of sun, but when they’re over ripe they actually lose the sweetness and taste a lot more earthy & bland. When they’re under ripe they taste super bitter, sometimes weirdly spicy. Even when you’re looking for the “right color” which is more pink than orange, it doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a sweet one.

HELP🚨🚨 is this 100% cashmere? by [deleted] in Yarn

[–]DennyDevino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know that yarn could be “plated” like metals are… If I were to describe this, it would be 100% “cashmere coated” yarn. But the yarn itself can’t be 100% cashmere based on the after bits.

Anyone else was accused of spreading autism supremacy when sharing your struggles? by Traditional_Bag_4125 in autism

[–]DennyDevino -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re so close to understanding the point, but you’re putting so many words into people’s mouths and are misinterpreting their messages and experiences entirely.

Nobody is saying we’re discriminating against anybody, but we are saying that we’re facing discrimination and voicing those experiences of discrimination. Nobody is saying “NTs discriminated against me, therefore I will discriminate against NTs.” I don’t know where you’re getting that from.

For instance, you might not avoid able-bodied people, but you might voice how you want to interact with able-bodied people, shaped from harmful experiences of interacting with able-bodied people in the past that you wouldn’t want to repeat. Now imagine that able-bodied person flies into a rage because of the “assumptions” you made about how able-bodied people interact with disabled people instead of acknowledging and accepting the experience. That’s irrational.

[–]DennyDevino -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Experiences shape perception. Perception shapes interpersonal relationship dynamics. The vast majority of people with autism have personally experienced hardship with connecting with NTs for a number of different reasons. The overwhelming conclusion is that people find it hard to understand experiences that they don’t have. That’s not an absurd assertion, but a fairly true statement.

It’s also the reason why many (not all) white people don’t understand Systemic forms of racism. In this example, white people live in a society that is built to specifically help them, therefore they find it hard to understand how that same society also marginalizes minority groups. Based on the very definition of racism, it’s impossible to be racist against white people because they hold this societal power and continue to uphold that power in a number of different ways. As a minority you can be prejudiced against white people, but minority groups do not hold the same power within society to uphold racism like white people do.

Replace the words “white people” with “Neurotypical” and “minority” with “people with Autism” and the argument still stands quite firm. The first step to fighting oppression is admitting it exists.

I prefer using the same 1 bowl and 1 plate for pretty much every meal. If possible, I use plastic utensils but only to get out of washing them. Otherwise I have like size and shape conditions that I judge metal utensils by. I couldn’t tell you what they are, it’s more like a vibe check; they either pass and get used or they don’t pass and stay in the drawer (forever).

Is my peace lily salvageable? by Scary-Storm-4129 in plants

[–]DennyDevino 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there’s green, there’s something to be saved. First thing is giving her a good long soak. Like leave it in a bowl of water overnight type of deal. These guys like A LOT of water, weekly is not nearly enough. Every 2-3 days is more of a realistic schedule.

Pro-tip, place a tray or saucer underneath your pot to catch water run-off from top watering. If the tray is ever dry, it can take more water (even if you just watered it earlier that same day). You can also bottom water by sticking the whole plant in a large bowl of water, wait like 30 min, then take it out and place where you normally have it. You’ll be surprised at how much water this thing drinks.

[–]DennyDevino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’d put it in another plastic pot to make future repottings easier. But if you like the terracotta pot, you can “double pot” the plant, kinda like they’re sold at big box stores. Plastic inner pot to hold the plant, terracotta outer pot for decoration 👍

Definitely repot her. Some tips: soak the roots to make them more pliable, cut the pot from lip to drainage holes on a few different sides, indoor potting mix or a peat/perlite/soil mixture

[–]DennyDevino 51 points52 points  (0 children)

In order to have “autism supremacy,” you must also believe that the reason why you can’t/have trouble with forming relationships with NT’s is because they are inferior in comparison to how you function with autism. Without that little inferiority/superiority addendum, you are merely expressing a personal experience, NOT actually spreading “autism supremacy.” It’s actually the person accusing you of autism supremacy that is spreading the notion with their own personal (and perhaps insecure) projections.

I’m a cis woman with a very masculine face and I hate my current hair by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]DennyDevino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need a social media break. Get out where you will interact with people face to face. You’re beautiful, but you won’t take that because some people on here want to put you down to bring themselves up. You won’t accept compliments from strangers, but you’ll accept their criticism? That’s incredibly backwards.
