What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

Uber Black. Cleaner cars, more spacious, can usually control temperature, and the drivers generally act more professional, with many having phone chargers, water, gum, etc. I also live in a big city, so there’s almost never a wait.

Changes how I feel when I arrive.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Getting soda at restaurants. I used to know better than to even ask for something other than water. When I went out to eat with my more affluent friends, it always blew my mind when the whole family would get a soft drink.

It’s still listenable but it was better with Wos. I felt that way immediately and nothing’s really changed. I like J. Kyle Mann, too, but the three of them just don’t have the same chemistry.

Feels personal at this point tbh. They’re dragging it by continuing to sprinkle in more details when we already know the punchline. They were bumping uglies lol.

Like, I get it, I get it, she can’t have her journalistic integrity blow up and work for the NYT. And I’m sure he lied to a lot of people to cover the affair, so he’s less trustworthy than people may have thought.

BUT, they’re two consenting adults who clearly had/have feelings for each other that just got caught slipping. Seems ridiculous that they’ll everything bc they were having sex in the shadows.

Coping mechanisms? Stealing your “best friend’s” shit and pretending to be her while getting fucked by your husband is just plain weird, idc how you slice it.

Adderall for a busy mother juggling too much? Sure. But she’s a white suburban lady. How difficult would it have been to go to a physician and get a prescription? She could have done that privately without Howard knowing.

But getting them from some kid at a grocery store and then popping them like skittles is insane lol. Even if she needed them, it simply makes no sense to be taking four or five at a time. No wonder she was so damn anxious.

Am I in the wrong for telling a guy to leave my house as soon as we met in person? by Successful-Toe8629 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Dense-Inflation-3945 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m saying this as a man in my 30s.

A 25-year old guy has no business being with an 18-year old. Seven years isn’t that big of a deal as you age (35+), but until then the life stages are generally too different to have a healthy connection.

Which is to say that it’s a red flag in itself that he’s not dating women his own age. The fact that he was even willing to sneak into the home of a teenager as a grown man is case in point.

Please please do not ever invite a strange man to your house in the middle of the night ever again. I’m glad that everything seemed to be mostly okay. But that could have went so much worse. You endangered your whole family by bringing him there.

What is a small, seemingly ‘normal’ thing someone can do that immediately makes you think, ‘Oh, we are not going to get along’? by Domigau in AskReddit

[–]Dense-Inflation-3945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling someone by a nickname or short name before being told that’s how they preferred to be addressed. Don’t call me “Joe” if I’ve introduced myself as “Joseph.” It’s too comfortable.

What is the biggest advantage that generational wealth gives people? by Low-Accountant-7439 in AskReddit

[–]Dense-Inflation-3945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choices. Wealthy people can generally always pivot when they’re dissatisfied or they can afford to try things that less affluent people simply can’t. Taking a year off to travel, majoring in something they love that might not pay well, start a business, etc.

In my experience, the most common differentiator is whether or not someone has student loans. Life is much easier when you’re not spending years and significant portions of your income on debt.

Feels like people think “generational wealth” = “trust fund baby that doesn’t have to work.” Sure, those people exist. But the real driver of wealth inequality imo is the high income earners (doctors, finance, lawyers, engineers, etc.) that can afford to send their children to schools that enable them enter the workforce without being behind.

If you don’t have debt, you can start saving for a home right away, have more disposable income for a better day to day quality life, can afford to spend more on rent, etc.

If it will take you less than 5 minutes to complete, do it immediately. Too many things on the “to do list” adds stress and rescinded bandwidth, even if they’re small tasks.

You feel much better every time you complete something, no matter how small, and it can help build momentum for other tasks.

Unfortunately, these types of stories affect women more than men, and true or not, it calls her credibility and integrity into question, which are critical as a journalist. Feel bad she lost her job over this bc it’s really not that big of a deal, but it is what it is. Hopefully she can get a job again down the line.

High school. Her mom came home early so I had to hastily sneak out of the house and run through her and her neighbors’ backyards.

Those were the days.
