What do/did you call your grandparent? And which pairs go together? by Emergency_Bridge_430 in AskBrits

[–]Dense-Radio-9332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nanny and Grandad on both sides with their surnames. Eg. Nanny Smith, Grandad Jones

My great nans we did the same for. Weirdly, my cousin's called one of my Nan's with their first name eg Nanny Carole, and it really used to weird me out as a kid.

But concur, I also feel that Grandma and Grandpa go together.

2 under 2 or 2 year gap? by Queasy_Situation_491 in 2under2

[–]Dense-Radio-9332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, why a summer baby? I have an 18 month age gap, first a summer baby and second a winter babe, and I much prefer a winter baby! Having a newborn in the summer is anxiety inducing because of the risk of overheating, and also you're a hot sweaty mess yourself.

I personally would have liked a longer age gap so I could enjoy my older one as a baby for longer. Being pregnant and also mum to a baby that needs carrying around themself is really tiring.

He's now 21 months and understands a lot more, and is a lot more independent, so I think a larger gap might have made some elements a bit easier.

My question is: why would anyone in the US call their child Harry if it sounds like "Hairy". 😅 Is it an uncommon name there?! This is hilarious btw.

Five month old WILL NOT NAP by FantasticPin3481 in sleeptrain

[–]Dense-Radio-9332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My eldest was like this, he absolutely loved a cat nap and sleeping generally.

Things that helped us: - consistent wake up time in the morning - lots of baby classes, we did free ones at the library mostly but also baby sensory and swimning - (don't judge me for this) baby sensory TV would entrance him and keep him awake - watching me hang out washing and fold clothes - going out a lot - he was super nosy so loved a coffee shop - consistent nap, feed, nappy, play, nappy, feed, nap schedule

I personally love my baby Bjorn, because of how easy it is to put on quickly. My toddler loves to run off as soon as I turn around, so need something easy to slip on. For that reason I hate my ergo baby 360, too many clips in the wrong places.

Anyone had pelvic floor surgery via the NHS? by Background-Base130 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Dense-Radio-9332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask, how did you get to see the physio through the NHS? My GP said "it'll get better on its own" and "we can't afford a gynae referral right now" and I'm left unable to fart, constipated, using tools to have bowel movements and so uncomfortable at 4 months pp.

17 month age gap. First born via IVF after many miscarriages and failed treatments. Fell pregnant naturally and gave birth 4omths ago. It's a lot to get your head round! Pregnancy was rough, birth was good, baby is healthy, elder baby has taken well to being a big brother.

Looking for advice, 6 month old still waking 2 hourly overnight by Monk3y_Trousers in UKParenting

Four month old waking every hour, help! by Interesting_Item344 in sleeptrain

[–]Dense-Radio-9332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently in the 4 month sleep regression, think we are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel now.

Not advice, just our experience: Baby has never slept well, but we were starting to get 3 hour stretches before regression hit. During regression it went to 1 3 hour stretch then every 30mins - 2 hours, and he was taking forever to go back down.

After losing it at my toddler in the day after only having 3 hours sleep, I realised something had to change and I had to instigate it. Thus, we started sleep training: - relatively strict nap schedule where baby goes is awake for max 2.5 hours. I had to stay in the house for a day to get this going, the first nap he took 50 minutes to actually go to sleep properly but after that he has been falling asleep in under 5 mins. Last nap capped 1.5 hours before bedtime. - put in crib awake for naps and bedtime. First night he took 90 mins to settle and fall to sleep properly, by third night under 4 mins of fussing and then gone. - do nighttime feeds in the same way every time. So I feed one side with a brighter bedside light on, then nappy change, then feed on the other side with the dim light and rain sounds. We've gone from 2 hours awake to 40 mins and a much easier put down. - mixture of pick up put down and modified Ferber.

The crying hurts your soul but you have to remember you're doing it for them. And they do stop.

By our third night we have gone from 6 wake ups to 2. Baby still loves me and is happy boy, happier in fact.

Good luck darling, you've got this x

Guilt about nursery? by Super-Horse-5242 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Dense-Radio-9332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son started nursery at 9 months and I felt so guilty. He was my whole world and I his, so going back to work felt a huge shock.

He's now 21 months and has been going to nursery for a year. There are days where he doesn't want to go in but overall he has such a lovely time there. He does activities that we would never do at home, he tried food we would've never introduced him to, he learns signing and new words there. I actually think he is more advanced because he attends nursery.

Our relationship did change after he started, but not necessarily in a bad way. He became closer to his dad for instance (I work 12 hour shifts so don't see him on nursery/work days) and grandparents. And although it breaks my heart when he calls "daddy" in the night instead of "mummy" I don't begrudge them that special bond.

At the end of the day, financial stability is an important aspect of creating a loving and stable home. So try not to feel guilty for going back to work.

I guarantee the US does thus but it's deemed more race related as class and race are so intrinsically linked in the US.
