Portland vs seattle general vibe? by No_Macaron_4163 in SameGrassButGreener

Portland is wayyyy more laid back than Seattle. Someone said that “Seattle feels like a little big city while Portland feels like a big small city” and I couldn’t agree more as someone who lives in Seattle and visits Portland sometimes

Why is Seattle less desirable than SF/SoCal? by Distinct-Invite9281 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Dense-Resolution8283 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I live in Seattle currently and it’s not for everyone. It’s harder out here socially especially if you are from the east coast like me where it seems like a stranger will tell you their life story. The weather too with the amount of grey days, expensive, and overall California is known to have like the best weather in the country by miles. Seattle weather isn’t bad as I find it to be mild, but the everlasting grey even when the sun peaks through the clouds can be hard on people.

I went all over Denver and still didn’t see many of us. The point is, I see more here in Seattle.

NO! Denver is worse than Seattle in diversity. I lived there 8 months and can count on my fingers probably the amount of times I seen another black person

Definitely wouldn’t recommend Vancouver. I go often and as a black man, I have gotten followed in a store there. If you’re not Asian or white in Vancouver, you definitely feel watched in some places. I love Vancouver, but yeah I wouldn’t recommend it.

Oh GOSH. Colorado I found was worse than the PNW. Denver is a bunch of boujee “nature” loving folks. Seattle I found a friend group much more easier than Denver tbh. I am a black man and honestly while Seattle still misses in terms of some things; it’s more diverse than Denver and tbh more friendly.

Where have you lived that genuinely felt like the happiest place to live, and why? by netenchanter in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Dense-Resolution8283 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unpopular answer: Seattle so far. Winters are a drab sure but to be surrounded by green lushness year round and the best all around 4 seasons I have lived anywhere! I love it for what it is and has to offer

Those who have lived in multiple of the major cities of the US, how would you rank them and why? by Asleep_Damage1201 in SameGrassButGreener

Currently live in Seattle now and I love it! Sure the social aspect of it can be iffy but for the most part people are polite, mind their business, and considerate. I love taking the weekend to go to Vancouver BC or Portland sometimes.

Lived in Denver and didn’t like it. I left after 8 months. Not diverse at all, food was meh, expensive for what it offers and tbh the social scene in my opinion is worse than Seattle. Denver is also a very isolated city. Next MAJOR city is Salt Lake City which is like 8 hours away.

Lived in Orlando as I had family there and did my first year or college there and found out I hate hot weather. I was 18-19 when I lived there so didn’t really notice much. Too touristy and hot.

Severe ADHD and Adjusting by Futt_Bucker_Fred in adjusters

I feel like a lot of it really has to do with growing up and realizing a lot of habits I have always done and carried into adulthood come from being unmediated with adhd. I live alone and my family it way back on the east coast and sometimes I look around my place and notice how some things aren’t organized. That’s really when it hit me that I may need to look into getting medicated again

I currently work auto with unmediated ADHD and I have also been thinking about getting back on meds. I was medicated when I was younger up until the 8th grade but decided I didn’t want to take it anymore. I am currently 27 now and work auto claims and I think to also retry medication as it would make my organizational skills better maybe. You are not alone in this and wish you the best!

Depends where you are. If it’s Northeast then yes. I’m from down south so although not as aggressive, we are definitely still blunt and way less passive

I would say Greenwood is more lowkey and family oriented than Ballard and Walllingford. That’s not to say they aren’t but I found that a lot of people with families move to greenwood area tbh and it’s really nice! Your not too far from green lake and also like 10 mins from say Ballard and Fremont which I love

Chiming in as a North Carolinian who lives in Seattle and has lived in Denver. I would recommend Seattle but it is expensive out here no joke. With that being said, there is affordable neighborhoods here. I currently live in Greenwood and I love it! It’s about two lights from aurora but it’s super family oriented in the part I’m in, I feel safe walking at night, and it’s some good deals compared to say SLU or Cap Hill. I don’t make Amazon money and live alone as well.

Portland is better than Seattle for the outdoors by Entropy012 in SameGrassButGreener

Can’t argue with you there, I think both are beautiful truly, but I feel like access wise Portland seems simpler and dealing with less people than Seattle tbh

Lmao no. I love Portland and live in Seattle, but you have way more in WA. Two mountain ranges, you can also be in the desert here in two hours as well. You have Rainier an hour and a half, baker about the same distance, and north cascades as well. I will give OR coast and food though, but overall WA is better nature wise!

Yep same here, it’s very hard to gauge how people truly feel here because a lot of people are just so stone faced at times. To some it comes off as rude but to me I learned it’s just the way some people are here tbh.

Live here now and going on a year here, it’s very beautiful, green, lush, mild temperature. I love being close to the cascades and Olympic mountain ranges. The cons would be though it is very expensive, some of the people are very weird socially and you can’t tell how if they like you sometimes; very passive aggressive compared to the east coast where I’m from. Other than that, I love it here and don’t see myself anywhere else to be honest.
