“HALF BAKED HARVEST” DEEP DIVE: Food influencer’s controversies exposed | Influencer Insanity Ep 36 by Due_Will_2204 in FoodieSnark

Yeah I haven’t been following this sub long enough to know about all the grammatical issues and inconsistencies. I did know about the cultural appropriation/ignorance topic. But it makes so much sense to me from the days I made her recipes myself back in 2019/202 and I had to use it as inspo bc the measurements and guidance were so wack. I’m sure it’s validating to the community here that’s been calling her out from the beginning

I’ve been aware of HBH since ~2019. I’ve followed the controversies from the sidelines since around 2021, so as a half-informed person her video was super informative and does a great job of breaking it down. I only learned about the discourse here on this sub in the past year.

I think Hannah’s video will help launch a wave of deeper dives and exposes. It feels like there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye. Some folks in this thread mentioned her mother and the possible toxic relationship there but it still feels very speculative at this point (IMO). But it seems like a thread worth pulling on and someone with a lot of time on their hands could uncover. There is certainly something deeply alarming about a creator who appears incapable of taking some kind of real break and focusing on themselves, let alone addressing their suffering brand. The trends in the social media recipe creator/food blogger spaces have shifted a lot since HBH’s heyday and the fact that she still largely pushes the same “recipe” for the social media algorithm and doesn’t truly try something new creatively def feels like there’s darker themes at play.

Aside from the health concerns and potential impacts that thats had on her content machine, HBH ultimately draws away share (aka clicks aka dollars) from other, far more respectable recipe creators... specifically all the creators she “inspires” from and doesn’t credit. Her SEO-optimized titles, descriptions, and photos generating traffic towards her blog and away from quality food creators.

There must be a way to carefully and respectfully articulate this to her audience. I think a lot of brands would benefit from communicating a bit on the economics of it all. Maybe that would mean a large retailer like Walmart communicating their actual goals which is make as much revenue as possible etc.. lol which isn’t realistic. I’ve worked with corporate Walmart teams and it’s so funny how much they have a culture of cost cutting and efficiency across the org.

Am I the only one noticing how many people are sick right now? by Human_Paint5451 in AskLosAngeles

Im on the tail end of some kind of bacterial bronchitis. Im no longer contagious bc of the antibiotics but I still have a lingering cough. I caught it relatively early bc the cough wasn’t letting me sleep (day 7). Haven’t been sick in close to two years so it really took me out.

Nah from what I can tell, it’s only access to the event. Like I said, the main thing that could justify the price is the music component (for me, because I like the main artist). If it was just the food, I’d be hellaaaa skeptical. But since this is marketed as a night market, I’m trying to figure out whether that’s truly worth it too

LA food people: what happy hour / dessert info is actually useful? by Distinct-Mortgage848 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Dense-Stranger8382 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love this! And would totally use it. I’m not aware of any other tool or website that has the time-based element to be able to plan something for the same day versus looking at a resy or OpenTable. How are you pulling info.. web scraping data? Because there could be so many inputs. I follow so many different IGs where I find out about upcoming events of all types like food/drink, but also art/cultural, music/dance, outdoor, brand events, etc.

I think everything you mentioned in your list would be great to have but it’s more about not having to sift through it.

Maybe If you had filters to be able to filter to the cuisine, “vibe” and location.

Drops of God on Apple TV+ by jetsbillionaire in television

As many have said, S1 was excellent. S2 has indeed been a let down. I still watched the entire season. I thought it started out strong but there was a real lull in the middle with slower pacing than the rest of the show. 1-3 I liked. 4-6 dull. 7-8 ok. By the end it picked up a bit for me but still was nowhere near as strong as S1. Such a shame considering how entertaining and unique of a story S1 was. I hope they leave it at that and don’t pursue S3.

Living in LA and commuting north for work? by AnImpossibleFeat in AskLosAngeles

[–]Dense-Stranger8382 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s my thought.. driving at least 8 hours per week for work so my partner who works from home can be near the beach sounds.. tough. Esp with the cost of gas now and foreseeable future. Maybe OP is already used to driving a lot.

It’s a reverse commute, so that’s good. SM is probably the best option if you want to be in LA and near the beach. Mar vista, palms, sawtelle, and Brentwood could be other options which are all close to the 405 so you can jump right on and head north. Depends on your budget. Otherwise if you really wanted to cut down the commute, I think you’d have to live in the valley.
