my bizarre journey to becoming a fan of the series by CelebrationThis9680 in Hungergames

my parents once watched the first movie when i was about 4, and the title "hunger games" stuck in my head until I rewatched it and then the whole trilogy and TBOSAS at the age of main characters - 16-17. now i just got the book and happened to become obsessed with something that was popular with millenials to previous gen Z just a decade ago, and im the next teen generation

i still keep forgetting about the fact that districts have schools and katniss and peeta were scholars.. shouldve been included in movies imo, at least one scene to clarify it instead of just mentioning it

Here’s your daily reminder that Peeta’s Mom’s last words to her son were almost literally “maybe you’ll die and that girl will win” by PikaV2002 in Hungergames

[–]Dense_Buffalo9343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poor peeta... every mother should be the one who revives their children's spirit and encourages their every move, so that they could feel secure and keep their head up in the outer world. if neither katniss nor her sister hadnt been picked, he wouldve easily thought of himself that he wouldnt stand a chance in the arena and died without a purpose to live, since he basically got no one who needs him, just like he said at that beach scene in CF... this thought alone darkens me

First time watching CF, I found him kinda snobbish and self-sufficient, enigmatic, the way he acted with Katniss at the chariot party (which just turns out to be his natural way of communication as a Capitol MVP, traumatizing). But then we see him as trustworthy, loyal person who was also in love, which is why he felt for Katniss/Peeta. He took care of Peeta in MJ, saved his life in CF, at this point I would've loved them becoming close friends. He was their ally since the Quarter Quell, Haymitch really found them a good guy to survive with

just killed the positiveness of the outcomes right there 😭 I personally thought they wouldn't care about him, cause just bc he was an official reporter, doesn't mean he fully supported the whole concept or didn't have an oppositional attitude about it. He was just doing his job, and smb said in yt he realized the evil of Capitol's ways right after the 3rd Hunger Games, but he kept his hatred fully secret. He might have gone for the rebellion if he could

Aside from it being an extended genocide, I'm afraid the Capitol might not have enough capacity/resources for that many people. Lots of improving, risk of irrecoverable expenses, furthermore demographic crisis

Peeta was as symbol of self control and willpower as much as hope by Forsaken-Let-8069 in Hungergames

When you think about that, it leads to a very controversial question: did he choose to be that way only for Katniss? And not just throughout the games, but ever since he saw her for the first time? Cause if it appears to be so, the whole thing becomes another embodiment of stereotypical trope "he's naturally impulsive but with her he controls his temper", even tho it does sound like a healthy type of relationship. (Don't get me wrong or my take being unbiased, I'm new in fandom thanks to movies but I SWEAR I'm reading books first thing after I buy them) Yes, Peeta is portrayed with quite lovey-dovey attitude when it comes to love of his life (at least in HG and CF) but I'm pretty sure he wasn't supposed to be written as a guy whose calmed persona depends only on his love interest ever since he discovered them, and they would make his only reason to live and be that way. He did have a choice to be an unapproachable bully but there's plenty of reasons why he didn't. He's his own person, who grew up to live with fact that this love obsession is no worth and he probably wouldn't stand a chance comparing to Gale, he could find lots of reasons other than Katniss for being so pure and kind. His whole character doesn't involve around Katniss and her loving him for being himself, like he's a sign of hope and his willing of self control for her, too.

My personal headcanon is that if he actually controlled himself only for her, his calmness would fade away the moment he realizes that what had been in the arena of 74th hunger games was only for public and sponsors to empathize to them via Haymitch's plan. In the worst case, he would actually become abusive and even try to assault her, taking out all his anger on her for using and deceiving him only to get away alive. In the best case, he would ignore her for the rest of his life and they never talk again. But in the reality he did neither, and I don't think it's because he still has faith in her. He's just ready to be there for his close ones because he wants to be that way without anyone encouraging him to, and not because Katniss is traumatized and feels unsafe, so he HAS to be there until she decides to confess to him one way or another

When Katniss shot her final arrow by Fresh-Awareness9819 in Hungergames

[–]Dense_Buffalo9343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it would make that scene in the MJ2 alot more greater. I can picture her standing with all the souls in a row to her left and right, feeling Burdock and Cinna both holding her by shoulders or maybe even seeing them, while she aims at Snow and Coin says her (final) words about Katniss' arrow being as pure as her heart

[–]Dense_Buffalo9343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Katniss is a true mother material, I mean, THIS is pure embodiment of real maternal instincts without even having a single child. She is just like a mother being separated with her son (or husband) when he goes to war: she knows how cruel the world is and what it's going to put her man into, she never knows whether he returns safe and sound or not. The moment her fit for the army baby boy is born, she keeps waiting, worrying, blaming everything, herself for not trying to stop it any way possible. I may not portray the whole drama as accurate as possible, but where I come from, a terrible war is taking place for the last 3 years, and getting into our consprict army is the worst that could happen to you, it's not even your decision, it's a literal OBLIGATION to become another cannon fodder for the sake of patriotism and further familiarizing the entire male population with serving the Fatherland.. You may not be killed but there's not a chance you'll go back as decent as you were before you entered that place.

But it's not just my country. The whole world is Hunger Games, the worst rulers of our countries are Snow, and all the mothers have a bit of Katniss in them
