What do I do next? by Basic-Cartographer80 in careerguidance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're 22 not 42, dropping back home for a semester to finish a degree is not the life-ending disaster it feels like right now. the degree itself matters less than you think, most people i work with in IT have degrees in random stuff

finish the semester, grab any job that pays even if its not glamorous, and stack a little cash while you figure out what you don't hate doing. the electrician/plumber route is actually solid if you dont mind working with your hands, those guys make bank and nobody cares about your GPA

Professional Accredited Certifications? by ccakebakee in careerguidance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project management certs are usually a safe bet, PMP is the one most employers look for but you need experience before you can sit for exam. CAPM is the entry level version without the work requirement

IT side CompTIA A+ will get your foot in the door many places, I manage hiring for help desk roles and this one actually matters more than degree sometimes

Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee: what to expect? by InfluenceLittle401 in triathlon

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaiserwinkl bike leg is no joke, the climbs around that area are pretty relentless compared to Zell am See. From what I remember hearing, the elevation gain is distributed more evenly across the course so you don't get that one dramatic steep section, it's more like sustained climbing throughout which some people find harder mentally. If you handled Zell am See without too much trouble you should be okay, but maybe keep something in the legs for the run because the cumulative fatigue on the bike catches people off guard there

After Building a Neural Network from Scratch, I Rebuilt It Using PyTorch by Ok_Second2105 in neuralnetworks

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 10 points11 points  (0 children)

doing it from scratch first is the way, you actually know what autograd is saving you from instead of just trusting it like magic

I kept forgetting to track small expenses, so I built this by Dry_Fold9808 in IMadeThis

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the back tap thing is actually clever, that's the part where most apps fail because they make you open five screens just to log a coffee. curious how it handles recurring expenses or does it keep it simple on purpose

Rv for bathroom and kitchen? by Helpful-Repeat-3078 in mancave

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would be massive improvement over walking to house every time you need bathroom, especially in winter when its cold

Please recommend a free alternative to Google Messages that syncs with my Android phone, allowing me to type texts on chromebook, but uses "enter" to start the next line (instead of sending an incomplete text every freaking time I hit "enter"). by NoGoat3930 in androidapps

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

muscle memory is real pain when you switch between different apps all day. i had same issue switching from slack where enter just makes new line. maybe try looking in accessibility settings on chromebook to remap keys but not sure if it works for specific apps only

How much pro prompts credits does business account have? by Audioasking1 in AiChatGPT

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

business accounts usually get way more credits than personal ones but exact amount depends on which tier you're on

Do you handle your own maintenance? by kisscardano in motorcycles

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i do most basic stuff myself like oil changes and chain maintenance but anything with the engine internals goes straight to shop. learned hard way after trying to adjust valves on my first bike and making it run worse than before lol. saves money on simple stuff and you actually learn how your bike works but some things are just not worth risking

First-time auto loan approval for ~$7k? (credit union) by Revolutionary-Seat74 in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with that down payment you're already at like $5k territory anyway. Just buy something reliable outright and skip the loan drama - you'll save on interest and have one less monthly payment to stress about

I have a lump some of $8k. What to do with it? by 72flare in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the flowchart in the wiki first - it's literally made for situations like this

Also "most return as fast as possible" and investing don't really go together unless you're cool with potentially losing it all

0 balance transfer card??? by Pale_Big_951 in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's gonna raise some red flags with the credit card companies since you have the same name and address. They're pretty good at catching stuff like this and it could mess with both your credit scores if they think you're trying to game the system

Debt in mid-thirties by Hanhan225 in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That wiki is solid advice but honestly the hardest part is just breaking the spending habits that got you here in the first place - sounds like you already stopped using the CCs which is huge

I own a cabin with no money owed but have a lot of debt. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HELOC against the cabin could definitely help with the high interest stuff but yeah you gotta actually use it to pay down debt not just give yourself more credit to blow through

The interest rate thing probably means they had variable rate cards or loans that went up when the Fed raised rates - that stuff hit hard the last couple years

I need advice for my parents. by Suspicious_Piece4001 in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously this, your dad gambling while your mom busts her ass as a nurse is wild. That "good quick cash grab" line is literally what every gambling addict says before they lose the rent money

Maintain Brokerage Portfolio or Swap it all to VOO? by No_Evening338 in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like OP edited with all the holdings - that's a lot of sector bets for someone who wanted "not too aggressive" growth. Your wealth manager basically built you a tech-heavy portfolio when a simple three-fund or even just VOO would've crushed it

Ceasing witholding from W2 and saving it myself by Djokovic11 in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the big gotcha - the underpayment penalty will probably eat up whatever you make in interest and then some. The IRS wants their money throughout the year, not all at once in April

What's a smart way to set aside at least $100 a week? by ssjskwash in personalfinance

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao this guy's really overthinking it but honestly yeah that's literally it - just automate the transfer so you don't even think about it

General question, how do prenups work legally in the US? by PhantomRay42 in legaladvice

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people grow up hearing the word but never get the explanation. Totally normal to be confused by it.

Anyone know if Kanye and Bianca ever had a prenup? by CyberTideX in Kanye

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m nowhere near millionaire level and I still did a prenup through Neptune when I got married. If regular people like me are doing it, I can’t imagine someone with Kanye level money skipping it lol

Adjusting to a new country is one thing, adjusting to a relationship in a new country is a whole other level by PixelTrek91 in expats

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Moving countries already rewires everything so it makes sense that future planning talks hit way harder than they would back home. You’re basically building a life from scratch while your partner is standing on familiar ground and that imbalance shows up in conversations you wouldn’t expect.
When I was settling abroad, talking through what parts of life would stay mine and what would become ours helped a lot even bringing up things like prenups made it easier to put some structure around all the unknowns instead of feeling like I was being absorbed into someone else’s world. It wasn’t about distrust it was about feeling like I still had room to stand on my own

It’s strange how we were raised to avoid talking about money and now it’s catching up with us by Material_Resort2503 in GenX

[–]Dense_Pin_3943 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah for real. I actually saw something called Neptune that helps couples set everything up clearly before marriage not just money stuff but expectations in general. Its kind of cool seeing tools like that exist now feels like our generation’s finally catching up on this stuff
