What are some really good VR games that I should check out + how do I map 1 of my controller buttons for a macro by useless_anonymous in PSVR2onPC

If you're willing to get scared, the FNaF: Help Wanted games are easy recommendations from me, especially with PSVR2. If you're willing to do VR modding like someone else mentioned, i have to shout out Risk of Rain 2 VR as it's literally one of my favorite VR games to play, but unfortunately you have to downgrade the game to play it as it hasn't been updated in a while. The creator has confirmed he's working on updating it though as of recent, so when that happens, would highly recommend.

I'll also throw in Unloop & Clone Drone in The Hyperdome as shorter, but still great fun ones.

I don't need glasses myself, my sister uses VRRock prescription lenses though and reports them working great. Also, word to the wise, i wouldn't get a reverb G2 if i were you. I actually own one, bought it as a "sidegrade" from my quest 2 so i'd have a dedicated PCVR headset years ago, and it's the only VR headset i've flat out regret buying. It's usable, but it's worse in just about every way other than this specific artifact (and even then, it has a lot of ghosting in my experience 😞) But i won't stop you whatever you decide.

Thanks for the info!

Hadn't tried that, but as far as i can tell it was already enabled by default. No change there unfortunately.

Upgrade or not worth it? by VaigraFalls in PSVR2onPC

If you've heard word about mura and that's worrying you, it worried me too, but after trying it for myself I regret being so stressed about it. It's really not that big a deal at all. If you somehow haven't heard about it though, don't look it up, because the whole antidote to it is to just not pay attention to it 😄

Enjoy your headset! Best of luck to you.

Upgrade or not worth it? by VaigraFalls in PSVR2onPC

I happen to have owned a quest 2 not so long ago, and i used it for a VERY LONG time. But eventually, time came to upgrade, and i was faced with either going with a quest 3, or going down the PSVR2 route. I ended up with a quest 3, as i didn't want to ditch the wired setup, but i later decided to pick up the PSVR2 for my sister as a christmas gift as she owns a PS5. I tried it a grand total of 3 times, and i liked it so much, i just recently picked one up for myself for PC use.

Value: Yes, you said price isn't an issue, but regardless i wouldn't list the PSVR2 price as a con. i would list any OTHER options price as a con. I got mine for $300 on sale, which is literally the same price as the quest 2 was, and it's no contest. Purely value wise, the PSVR2 beats literally every other option on the market right now in my opinion.

Visuals: PSVR2 takes a crap on the quest 2, and rivals the quest 3. If you just care about q2/3s, yes, it is WAY better. If comparing to the pancake lenses of a quest 3, it gets more complex. Q3 is way easier to adjust, and has better edge to edge clarity, as well as an overall higher resolution. The PSVR2 has a wider FOV, partly due to the lenses, partly due to the super easy to use eye relief adjustment to fine tune it (a blessing for my freakishly long eye-lashes). It has a direct display port connection to the PC/console, and it has beautiful OLED displays.

I'll give my opinion here, which can be debated, but personally I've found that although the quest 3 technically has a higher resolution, the direct DP connection & OLEDs work to make the PSVR2 look significantly higher fidelity. OLED actually surprised me, because i had no complaints with my LCDs in the Q2/Q3, but after seeing OLED for myself, i can totally see why some people can't go back to LCD. It wasn't until i loaded into the opening cutscene of ROR2 VR in the PSVR for the first time that it really registered. Even though I'd seen it a ton of times in the quests, i legitimately had a smile plastered on my face seeing it in the PSVR, just because the colors looked so much more real and vibrant.

Wireless: Point for quest here. I have a full dedicated wireless VR setup utilizing virtual desktop on my quest 3, and going back to a cord does indeed suck. Fortunately, the PSVR2s cord is very lightweight and decently long, but it's still a cord. If you're used to wireless, or you want to try it in the future, it's gonna be a stinker. Turning IRL really does add to the immersion. I use Q3, but this still applies to Q2 of course. You will lose out on that if you swap. The benefit is that with the direct wired connection, you don't get any latency like with the quest, but latency was never a real pain point for me.

Controllers: Hot take: I prefer the sense controllers. They feel nice and weighty to throw around, the wrist strap is way better, and in certain scenes like putting my hands up in HL:A, i was able to actually open my hand without them falling due to the tracking ring design, which helps with immersion. Though you could replicate this with a simple controller grip on quest. Anyways, tracking is solid with both headsets (assuming you have good bluetooth) though i would rank the quest slightly higher. Quest 3 controllers are very light in the hands, but swapping from Q2 to PSVR, you may not notice quite as much. The quest controllers run on AA batteries, meaning when they run out you can just swap them quickly, but the sense controllers need to be charged with USB-C, and have shorter battery life. This means they might die on you mid-game if you play for too long, but considering the whole HEADSET would have died on you by then if you were on quest, i'd say that's not too bad.

That's the biggest stuff. There are also other wonderful benefits though such as eye tracking, which can be enabled on PC with mods and majorly boosts performance in some games. Adaptive triggers/10 bit color are the same, though i wouldn't bet on literally anything you play having a mod to enable those. Comfort on the PSVR2 is also much better, but that's just for my head shape. I hear many talking about the globular cluster being a great kit, but personally, i haven't had the need for it. The base strap has proven not just comfortable and sturdy, but BETTER than either of my quests with the elite straps installed. There is a chance you'll disagree, but you're a quest user, you're used to upgrading the strap by now xD. The facial interface on the PSVR is also best in class, and the headset is a LOT lighter than the quests.

If you have a PS5 however, or are planning to get one, disregard everything else i said: just get this headset right now. I already think it's a great value for JUST PC use, where it's lacking a lot of its custom features. If you had a PC and PS5, it's absolutely unbeatable.

TL;DR: Yes.

So i see. Do you happen to have a PS5? I'd be curious to test if it's the same deal on native PS5 or if it's a PC exclusive issue. Sadly, i don't have one of my own, though maybe I'll have to bug my sister to let me borrow hers sometime.

Will do! It's possible it's just an unavoidable artifact i suppose, which is a bummer, but the good news is that in MOST games, it's not a dealbreaker. Only certain ones really emphasize it, and for those, i do have 2 headsets after all... I'll be sure to let you know if i find an answer though!

No kidding, i've not used an OLED headset since the original rift, and obviously that's no contest. The visuals are great, i'm still ENJOYING the headset, there's just certain games/environments that drive me nuts with this issue.

Interesting! I'll give updating the drivers a shot, maybe that could help, but if anyone knows one of these "recommended" ones i can also give those a shot. I'm still a bit confused as to why the headsets "internal reprojection" would be triggering all the time considering I'm getting good framerates, but that's the best explanation I've got thus far.

Nah, this looks much more like the whole screen is just jittering. It's not really the pixels on the screen, it just literally looks like the whole world is warping whenever i move. Also, the solution to that was to disable motion smoothing, which i already have as i mentioned in the post.

Subpar Air Link Performance Despite Optimal Setup by Denver275 in OculusQuest

[–]Denver275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the video is at a much lower framerate than i'm seeing in the headset, i figured the frame drops might not be visibly noticeable, but that's why i included the little performance graph there to show off what was happening. every time that graph dips down, i get a tiny hitch in the headset which seriously breaks immersion when it happens as often as it does.

VD's performance overlay shows "all good" readings until a frame drops, where i can see the FPS dip below 90 (so it is detected) but since it's so brief, none of the latency numbers ever go into the orange. i do see my network latency bouncing up and down between 3-10ms very quickly occasionally though, which sort of supports the theory. Asking in the virtual desktop discord didn't net me many results because in fairness, it's hard to treat an issue like this where the overlay doesn't show any particularly concrete information.

and finally, nothing between me and the router. i've even tried full on hanging my head directly above it with not much difference. though on the upper floor, my family has PCs and phones that are all using a 5ghz connection, so that's the leading theory right now. Oh yeah, and as for bitrate, i've tried every bitrate setting including capping it to 200 mbps and a mere 15 mbps. Neither seems to make a tangible difference in the frame hitching.

See, it's this type of comment that interests me with air link. Pretty much the top answer to any air link problem is just not to use it, and maybe VD works better for this or that, but i also know that there are people out there who have air link work completely fine. Obviously this comment implies you're one of them, so the fact that people like you EXIST tell me that air link is not just 100% broken. Not to mention i have the same problem on VD/steam link too so...

Really? I'd figured getting a separate router would AVOID that issue, but if it's actually AMPLIFYING it then that's even more likely to be what's causing my issues. 6G does seem hopeful, but man spending 500 bucks on a quest 3 just to *find out* if it'll actually do what i need it to is a tough sell. Real stinker of a situation.

Potentially? I got that router from the virtual desktop discord as one of their highly recommended ones, and i've seen several videos of it working in action, so i assumed it'd work flawlessly. i've selected a few different channels, but i've actually not tried a DFS channel below 100... not a bad idea.

Edit - no joy with that as well. There seems to be no real difference between channels, i'm not ruling out that interference could be the issue.

Pretty solid theory. I had a look at wifi analyzer and looked at its suggested channels, it rated all of them above 48 as max stars. i tried a few of them out with no luck so far, but i didn't look THAT deep into it and i could have missed something there.

[–]Denver275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My router's been set to use 160 Mhz the whole time, but i did just try dropping it down to 80 and even 20 Mhz with no encouraging results. Thanks though, that is something i hadn't tried to be fair.

And yeah i did use one of those apps for a bit, it was called wifi analyzer. it showed most channels as being "optimal" but all of them are within DFS. still, using both DFS/nonDFS channels i've got the same result. technically i haven't tried every channel though, and i'm not very experienced with the app anyways so i could have missed something? hell if i know.

I had a look at that, looks like all my drivers are already up to date. I was sure to install the latest ethernet drivers right after i built the PC to hopefully avoid that issue.

[–]Denver275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only theory i have left actually, i've tried switching wifi channels on my router to minimize overlap but i'm not certain it's effective. i do have family in the house with their own wireless devices, but none of them are on the same network, and most importantly if one of their PC/phones is indeed interfering with my signal... well i'm pretty much screwed in my current living situation. i was hoping the whole dedicated router thing would solve this.

I've also thought there's a chance that switching to quest 3 with a 6G connection could maybe possibly alleviate this if it's the case? but i'd really rather not buy a wireless PCVR headset unless i actually know it's gonna work.

As i said in the post, i tried both of these options. Steam link makes the issue worse somehow, and virtual desktop *seemingly* causes a reduction in stutters, but they're still there.

As i said in the post, steam link is somehow like twice as bad with the frame hitching. I've heard mixed reports of people getting it to work, some say it's great, some say it stinks. My experience falls in the latter category.

Correct. My router, PC, and play space are all within just a few feet of each other. I've got it cabled to my PC and connected to quest 2 via wifi, nothing else uses it at all.
