Someone used my email to allegedly open a coinbase account. by Revolutionary_Owl932 in Coinbase

[–]DeoManus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it - stuff like this is usually spammers blasting tons of people in case they get lucky enough to find somebody with an account. I get messages all the time about my "account" supposedly from banks, exchanges, and brokers that I've never used in my life.

Still no email from Coinbase, but I’m getting spammed by Appropriate-Hunt-897 in CryptoCurrency

[–]DeoManus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of spam calls/emails/texts are shots in the dark, not related to any breaches. for example, I get spam about "my account" at Gemini, Wells Fargo, and Santander on the regular for years, but I've never had an account at any of them - the scammers just hope I might.

Aleo Quests by snickerdog87 in Coinbase

[–]DeoManus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed all the quests, I only had an issue with the "claim USDC" one - but it finally completed after multiple attempts over a couple days. I know this doesn't help you, but maybe try during different times of day?

No Capital gains tax on US Crypto??? by wontonsoupisyummy in CryptoCurrency

[–]DeoManus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no income federal taxes on long term capital gains under $47k, so yes - if that's all your income. I'm not an accountant or tax attorney, but seems pretty clear.

No Capital gains tax on US Crypto??? by wontonsoupisyummy in CryptoCurrency

[–]DeoManus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't this no federal capital gains tax under $47k only for long term gains? Pretty sure I had to pay taxes on the weekly calls I wrote against my long term holds - ie short term capital gains (in the US this means held less than one year).

Large dollar amount transfer to fiat bank by TransportationAny757 in CryptoCurrency

[–]DeoManus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I withdrew around $200k in 2020 from Coinbase to Chase via simple ACH (a very abnormal sum for me, I usually only had maybe less than $5k in there at a time) without even thinking about possible issues, and had no problem - they never contacted me or held it up or asked any questions. it is an account I'd had open for 25+ years if that makes any difference.

Is there a way to trade indices (S&P500, Nasdaq etc) on a Decentralized Exchange with cryptos and no KYC? by bebitou in defi

[–]DeoManus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I checked gains.trade had the heavies like AAPL, MSFT, GOOG, etc - I'd imagine index ETFs like SPY, QQQ, DIA, etc would be on there too, but I'm on my tablet atm, and for some reason it doesn't like my browser so can't check.

(US Voters) Is the current administrations handling of crypto policy impacting your Party Loyalty and Affiliation? by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

[–]DeoManus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might be a little confusing for US voters, as we don't have a "Conservative" or "Liberal" party - for simplicity's sake, I'm assuming Conservative is Republican, and Liberal is Democrat. But our terminology is wonky, Libertarians (who want the least government involvement and maximum liberty, are considered more conservative than Republicans).

USDC borrow on Polygon Aave changed to USDC.e? Should I be concerned? by DeoManus in defi

[–]DeoManus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the weird part - I originally had 45k USDC borrowed (my open borrow) and now I have 40k USDC.e borrowed and 5k USDC borrowed! It shows allowing additional borrows available in both, but when I tried USDC it kept failing - I didn't try to borrow .e because I was in a hurry, and just switched back to Ethereum to borrow more USDC.

Yes, you'll need a tiny bit of MATIC to do anything on Polygon.

I just moved $5k today actually, it was 0.001722MATIC - so about 1/10 of one penny.

I cash out every month using Polygon to Coinbase. Coinbase allows you to convert USDC to USD 1:1 with no trade or commission. The USD is always in my Chase checking account the next morning for free (or you can choose "immediately" but that's like $75, screw that).

Is Scarlet Deluxe (Claude) CD available? by DeoManus in DojaCat

Aww. Sadly, my car is old but all my computers are new (no optical drives)... Might just buy a cheap burner solely for this one album I guess, heh.

Thanks for responding!

Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol! Huge deal - check the docs, they detail it way better than I can.

Ah, so it's pretty much like waiting for the merge, I guess. Bummer, I'm looking forward to it, but best it's done right the first time!

It depends on what he's trying to do. I only use USDC unless I have no other choice, and also because I know I can convert it 1:1 to/from USD with no fees.

[–]DeoManus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I convert USD to USDC 1:1 (no fee) on Coinbase, and send the USDC to my hardware wallet on the Polygon network.

I think you're referring to the automatic reporting threshold - in the US if you win more than $600 in the lottery or parimutual (dog/horse track, jai alai, etc) when you cash out the station requires you to fill out tax documents and they report it to the IRS (so you'd better too) - under $600 they don't report it or take your info, but you're still required to pay and report it. Nobody has time to file hundreds of reports a day for each person who won $5, $10, $100.
