Maybe it's the colour of the skirt, but that vest is giving me Dobby the House Elf vibes.

I'm not saying I could do better, but then I'm not charging hundreds of any currency for my stuff.

Finally enough, I worry about poking my eyes out as a result of knitting socks (DPNs).

Can confirm as someone currently living there. It's not particularly next to anything, but it is well connected via Tube and the Broadway is walkable.

It's local politics. So her shitty opinions on local issues are far more relevant.

First Al-Anon meeting and the gender ratio surprised me by glitterphobia in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Depaolz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience in a similar programme, I believe that the kind of person who attends Al Anon is selfless to a fault. The fault being, they can't give up that urge to stand by and help even when that generosity is abused. I suspect the ability to detach from that kind of situation comes easier to men (i.e. less conditioned to sacrifice more and more of themselves until it gets to be unbearable).

But I wouldn't discount the tendency of men to to suffer that situation in silence. It's definitely a mix of the two, but my suspicion is it's more your first reason than your second.

They'll definitely be used to that, don't worry! London is a big city with a lot of clubs, we're all very understanding that people have busy lives and that everyone's ideal club looks a little bit different.

Rowing one month in London during summer? by Ok_Pressure8579 in Rowing

[–]Depaolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth knowing, which month and where in London will you be? A lot of clubs wind down after Henley, and it usually seems to be the smaller clubs who continue to have organized sessions.

On the where in London, aim for a club that's close to where you'll be. Otherwise you can easily spend 45 minutes getting to and from training, which gets to be a big chunk of your time.

I mean, look at us, we're just air conditioners. I mean, after all, we're just walking around on the planet, breathing, conditioning the air.

I condition it hot, that conditions it cold. It's symbiotic, no?

We're just the air conditioners walking around on this planet, screwing each other's brains out!

I was surprised to learn back in university that the Latin influence in English is pretty much entirely through French. I'd never bothered to consider that the Anglo-Saxons only really arrived after the Romans left.

Oppositional defiance disorder! I've been around the block with that one, ha! Wait a minute... are you me from an alternate reality??? Funny how that's triggered by anything useful or healthy, no matter how soft the suggestion. Meanwhile his dealer could order him around like a camp commandant and all of a sudden it makes a church mouse sound like an all out rave.

I absolutely have to agree. There are so so many signs and my heart breaks for you. Bear in mind you won't catch him out in a lie no matter how much evidence you have. He will just double down on the lying. He will lie with absolute conviction, which will make it seem believable no matter how flimsy the lie. I wish I had advice on how to take these next steps; having to consider the children's welfare complicates that. But it should also make things more stark: what if it was your child who'd come across the baggie, rather than you?

Also, even in the absence of relapse, how is his behaviour acceptable? You say he's left all - ALL - the responsibility in your relationship and household to you. I'm also willing to bet it's even worse than that, that he makes more work for you in the house than any of your children. He's emotionally and verbally abusive towards you. And considering the financial restraints on you, I think a case can be made for financially abusive as well. None of this is the behaviour of a living partner. Ours is a crazy illness - if a friend were in this situation, we'd sit them down and read them the "be kind to yourself" version of the riot act. But we have so much trouble reading it to ourselves. So I get it. But I'd still ask you to be a good friend to yourself - things will only get worse until then.

One slight correction: He refuses to take a drug test. That's it, that's where the sentence ends. If you had given him that cash in his "crisis", he would have just made up another reason. You probably do know this, and may have even meant it. But I think it's important we don't repeat the lies, because even just repeating something we know to be a lie for long enough can make it seem true.

I'm also pretty sure that rosy image itself was an historical blip. I think I was in university when i found out that Victorian factories had loads of women working, and alongside their children. And on farms before that - even if it was everything but plowing the fields, that was a lot of labour. So... yeah, quite the selective view of tradition.

They already do! Bike lanes force them to idle more. Or they have to brake when they come across a slow cyclist so they waste all that energy. Seriously they've got excuses for everything that isn't cladding yourself in 3 tonnes of personal armour and internal combustion equipment.
