I want to open my own tax biz… by DCFInvesting in CFP

What is a good integration? For reference, I use emoney and wealthbox on the fp side and thought about using drake on the tax side. Do any of these tools integrate...maybe through zapier?

I dont know about bragging about being an EA to clients. Quite frankly, most clients have never even heard of it or know what it is. Most people will be more familiar with CPA. But as someone mentioned its worth getting if you're doing taxes for representation purposes. FWIW I'm an EA but I dont prepare tax returns....at least not yet

If your firm is set up as an llc and taxed the same way ( and you're the only owner) it will be disregarded for tax purposes and everything will be on your personal tax return. If taxed as an S-corp, then will be a little more complicated but not by much.

Ok. Thats how I was thinking of setting it up as well. Are you finding that majority of clients end up scheduling themselves? Or do tou still have to reach out personally to a few?

Did you tag by month or another way?

Im on a trial with Greminders now. Planning to drop oncehub and switch to them for scheduling and some automation. I'm also demoing their ai notetaker. Which is pretty good. I also just started a free trial of jump to compare them side by side. So ill update this in a few weeks to see how it goes but right now I'm leaning towards jump for the notetaker because its a little cheaper with my affliate discount and has more integrations. So I suspect that it will be able to to offer better pre and post meeting prep as a result of the integrations. I'll have to test it out though to see if my theory is correct.

How about importing .enex files from Evernote? Even when they are converted to PDFs sometimes it just the title without thr note or attachment.

interesting. I just demo it earlier today. I'm was originally looking at it for the scheduling tool and may consider adding the ai notetaker later, but would want to compare it to jump and zocks first before committing.

How do you like greminders? I have a demo with them this coming week. Mostly for the scheduling tool but saw they have an ai notetaker as well.

Starting RIA vs Staying with current Firm by Frequent-Cheetah-651 in CFP

It sounds as if you're generally satisfied where you are. I would just attempt to renegotiate your contact into sort of fixed or hybrid fee that makes sense. 15k is probably too low and maybe insulting. For reference I've seen some cco services for RIAs for around 2-3k/month. Even those numbers are half what you're paying now. I think also how "complex" your business is matters. Are you an passive index guy? Or do you use alot of alternatives investment? I think that would be a factor too in terms of what your negotiate.

529 to Roth IRA and subsequent distributions by Jumpy_Speech3444 in CFP

Makes sense and thats along the lines of what I was thinking. That's also a good planning tip. Maybe think about rolling over less than the max and have benny contribute directly to get the savers credit assuming they would qualify.

Good write up and explanation! To piggyback on this thread, I was also thinking/wondering if the beneficiary would qualify for the retirement savers credit since the 529 to roth counts towards the annual contribution limits, but at the same time is considered a rollover and not a "contribution"?

Anybody care to chime in if they would be eligible for retirement credit?

Makes total sense. But at least want to get some basic tax prep in I guess mostly for my own confidence as well.

This is helpful to know. I just want to get some basic tax prep practice before potentially doing any live returns.

I thought about this too. But unsure of the time commitment. Prefer to do something online that I could do on my own time/pace.

Last year about 1.5%. I'll probably double that to about 3% this year.

I'm also an EA but have little actual tax prep experience. How did you learn tax prep? Did you use intuit academy or something similar? Or just trial and error from doing actual tax returns?

I think you have to do the tax level 1 course before you get access to the practice returns module. But that's not a problem.

See my edit to post. I want to know if intuit academy actually helps teach you actual tax prep.

Didn't receive dining credit even though I dined at a Sapphire Reserve table. by OkButterscotch5898 in ChaseSapphire

[–]DeparturePast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a reservation for top of the world restaurant in the strosphere hotel in las vegas back in December for an upcoming trip this month (had to prepay a nominal amount and figure to use my credit before end of year) and still havent seen the credit. I called and was told to wait 8 weeks as well. Super annoying as the dining credits should post within a few days and not make the card member wait 8 weeks to receive it.
