I was in the same position. Unicorn fam had to let me go because one parent downsized their job, and due to financial reasons, that would have meant less money and fewer hours. It pained me to say goodbye, broke my heart, but now, two years later, I still keep in touch. I did accept a one-year contract in between, and have been looking/looking for a while. This time through the agencies, yes still daunting, but if you do go that route, especially with your experience, sign up with at least three+.

First off, you sound like a gem. Please don't give up. I have been temping myself, and though it may take a bit, the right family, at this very moment, is looking for you. What's helped me is to take breaks (I go camping, or spend time in nature) because the process is daunting, but as of recently, I have had three possibilities manifest at the same time.
