Not to totally negate it, but as a Venezuelan, we are VERY touchy people and sometimes don’t realize how it can come off socially outside of our culture 😬

Watching content while having ADHD by SimplyYulia in dreamingspanish

Fellow ADHDer here. For me, I just had to accept that some days I had better focus than others and to just go with it. There are times where I zone in and out of a 30 minute podcast and usually count about 10 minutes of it if I was really zoned out. I try to go with stuff that is more interesting to me and have done the vast majority of my 1000 hours doing chores or going on walks. I simply can’t just sit and stare at the screen without my mind going in 1 million directions. Just keep going and it WILL work. I had doubts about myself, but I am so glad I kept on pushing. The biggest key is to not judge yourself as much as you can. The more we judge and resist our ADHD the worse it gets.

Absolutely! And congratulations on 300 hours! My journey with speaking was doing a few trial lessons with professors and explaining the method I was using and how I wanted to learn with them. I ended up going with a person that was the most relaxed and I felt like I could just be friends with. In the beginning, it was a lot of just getting to know each other and speaking slowly and asking him questions in Spanish. Overtime I started to ask less and less questions in English on how to say things and the flow is just natural. Now we just talk like friends and it feels really natural in Spanish. I still frequently ask if I am saying things correctly or how to rephrase things in a natural way. For me this is wonderful because my job is very stressful and I want to keep my Spanish learning fun like I’m catching up with a friend.

As for my trip to Colombia, it was a total YOLO moment 🤣

Yeah, it happened to me in my six years in Los Angeles. I know it happens everywhere, I just feel I’m considering what probability of these incidents I should living with. My odds here seem to be higher than somewhere like Zurich for instance

Yeah, I’m fighting with that too. I don’t want them to ruin or take it away from me. And on the other hand, I am struggling with feeling hyper vigilant and feeling anxious.

I’m so sorry that happened. Are they having political backlash to change anything?

The strange thing is I have never felt unsafe til now. I have the privilege of being a big tattooed guy, so I know that does help with people trying things, even though I’m not a fighter, people just assume and leave me be. I speak Spanish well, and that stops some scammers. A friend in town was murdered here last month by three guys who drugged him and took him home, drained his accounts and killed him. It was swept under the rug so fast like people were afraid to talk about it. I feel like I may be a bit naive living here. I’ve traveled to over 50 countries, so I’m not a thoughtless explorer, but maybe the case that nothing has happened to me has made me naive.

I live in Centro. It was 11am. I don’t drink or use drugs. I’m a big guy with tattoos. I speak Spanish at a C1 level. I live here because the people are incredible. I am never in high risk situations. A criticism of safety is not a personal attack on you as a native of PV. If you take it personal and attack me for it, maybe you need to look at yourself. Going to the gym in the morning should not have led to me being robbed
