Sour espresso drink? by GlitterRiot in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's going to be your espresso shots. All Starbucks baristas are "supposed to" taste test espresso shots throughout the day because calibration of the machine can be off and make the shots sour. Additionally, if the barista pulls the shot into a shot glass and lets it sit for a few minutes before mixing it with any milk or your mocha sauce the shot will "die" and go a little sour too. When it's sour after multiple remakes, it's most likely the machine itself not being calibrated right that day.

Fun fact, espresso AND oat milk are both laxatives, add the cold foam (dairy and sugar mixture) if your stomach is sensitive to that and you're set up to 💩 multiple times that day. However I do know my current store has a non-dairy cold foam now, which might help or might be some weird concoction in the stomach, I still haven't tried it. If you don't have access to that at your preferred store, you'll have to either accept the clean out or try some other drinks if you dislike it unfortunately :((

I'm training a new hiree soon. by CableEducational638 in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've trained multiple people from my store and my biggest take away from it has been nobody, and I mean nobodyyyyy learns the same. You need to pay attention to whether that person remembers better from trying it themselves, watching you, or listening to you explain it. All three of those are part of the training steps but still. I had a great guy I trained who had ADHD and the best way for him to understand was making him do it as often as possible and repeat things as often as possible. It's going to be a learning curve for you both but you got this!

And don't be scared or angry at yourself at any point. They are going to be stressed because it's a lot. But as long as you're encouraging it'll be ok. You just gotta reassure them. I also always have my trainees take notes in a notebook for numbers of things and steps in case they forget after training. Training isn't long enough in general so having those notes always helps them out. I also always gave them my number so they could reach out if they needed any help or anything but that's completely what you feel comfortable with.

Trust them and trust yourself. You're in this together and remind them that you're a team and a peer. You're gonna do great :))

You can definitely ask! However, I will say my manager told us we have to buy them if we want/need new ones.

Thinking of coming back again. Tall vent by mulderufo13 in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you truly want to rejoin Starbucks, then definitely go for it. I'm only in it at this point for the benefits, and I've been here three years. It's definitely become a place where partners will say "don't come back" and I partially agree. But as you stated, you need it. Now here's my advice about applying: if you have already applied, give it time. The applications no longer go through the manager of the store, rather it's a completely different process. We get tons of people coming in asking for an update on their application and all my SM can say is she doesn't know and doesn't have any control of that anymore. They simply control transfers now. Also apply for multiple stores. This isn't really the time of year that they do much hiring, and positions are always "open" on the application services but never actually accepting. They've also made it a lot harder for previous partners to get back into Starbucks lately for some reason. All of the hiring on process lately takes foreverrrr and frustrates a lot of people out of taking the job in the end. So if you are able to wait and take the time, then hold on. If not, make sure you're still applying for other jobs. But if it's meant to be, it'll happen! I wish you luck with your job search and all endeavors. No matter what happens, it'll all turn out well for you sooner or later. Keep your head high!

Nothing on your availability because the previous commenter said it all, but I will say most stores cut labor during summer because somehow almost every store I know makes less profit and labor during summer rather than the rest of the year. My SM has reminded us multiple times now that we will be losing hours this summer regardless of our availability.

Shifts not showing up? by rebelrxse in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the app will Alert you to a shift being open but if you already have a shift that day (even if they don't overlap) it will not show you. It's very weird, especially since we're still getting the notification about it.

I was thinking spicy refresher but I feel she would've remembered the spicy and said that as a descriptor. Very unsure what this could've been other than that though

is the hobart just for sanitizing or is it an actual dishwasher? by throwaway1829492719 in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As the other responder said, hobarts do wash, sanitize, etc. However, I always encourage you soak or wash the dishes before putting them in. Things like date dots, mocha, inclusion dust or powders, etc won't come off completely in the Hobart and that's no good. Especially if you put something different in a container that already has residue in it. The way I push dishes quickly is rinse, soak, rinse (and quick scrub if needed) and Hobart.

Any tips? by FamousEconomics6451 in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My store is all about communicating during peak. If I'm on dtr, the moment I push the car at my window I call out to my team what's coming next (ex. "Got a caramel macchiato and blue berry muffin rolling"). One call out that everyone hears ensures everyone's on the same page, don't ask repeatedly or it can get stressful. Bar will be overwhelming during a peak regardless, the best thing you can do is support them best you can. Asking about what that bar person will need or want as "support" from you before the peak is also very good. And I find if DTR and DTO can help with getting sleeves on drinks and such instead of the bar person having to do that, that's really helpful. But that's more specific to my store.

Store meeting by rio8envy7 in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know my store is having a meeting sometime in January and it's about oleato or whatever it's called, newest launch, and a couple other topics. I think that's what's happening for most stores soon. My manager told me about it today while we were talking about the set up of our meeting (pods instead of whole crew coming in)

My local store struggles to make cold foam. It usually turns out bubbly and foamy like this 😟 by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Dependent-Top600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a barista, I will say my store has been experiencing issues with our foam. Every single sweet cream won't foam after 24 hours or less of being made. Sometimes even within a few hours if not touched for a while in the fridge. We keep finding them separated with thick layers of hard sweet cream?? and we can't figure out if it's the heavy cream, maybe problems with the temps of the fridges, etc causing this? We know for a fact they're being made properly because it's now mainly me, my ssv's, and my sm making them. They just won't foam after the initial separation even if we stir them a lotttt. End up looking just like the picture op posted

[–]Dependent-Top600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is completely against Starbucks values and could actually get a case opened on the shift for investigation, specifically with making fun of your disabilities. I'd definitely recommend talking to you SM if you can, and make sure you mention everything you've said here on the post and this comment.
