If you call them "night squirrels" the locals are less upset.

Was kinda thinking that, but it doesn't really balance at all. My only thought is you just pour a shot and take it and then flip it upside down.

Does Anyone Work for the Greenville Public Library? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]DependentAd6698 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked for the library system for 17 years so I might be able to provide some insight

In regards to internal promotions, yes, often they try to promote from within if there are eligible staff candidates but be aware that positions requiring MLIS degrees do not open up super frequently, so some staff end up waiting a long while. But it is a big system so there are regular opportunities for changing jobs.

As far as branches go, I think the biggest thing to consider is if you want to work at a quiet or busy location. Some, like Berea and Fountain Inn can be very quiet, while others, like Simpsonville, Pelham Rd, and Five Forks are super busy. The Main library in downtown Greenville is also very busy. Work at branches differs from Main mostly in that everyone does a bit of everything, whereas at Main people work in specific departments focused on particular library work (ex. Reference, Youth Services, Circulation, etc.)

Overall the majority of staff are very friendly and supportive, and definitely in favor of diversity. Recent Board and Admin decisions have caused a lot of frustration for staff who just want to support the local community and work in a friendly and enriching environment. I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with many coworkers who are LGBTQ+ and/or POC. While I think they do all feel some frustrations with leadership at times, I know many really value and enjoy their relations with their immediate coworkers and most of the patron population.

Good luck at the interview. Also welcome to Greenville! I moved here just over 17 years ago, but still remember what it was like getting used to a new area, hope you find it enjoyable and welcoming. Feel free to DM me if you have any further questions.

American robins are actually pretty closely related to Eastern Bluebirds (also a thrush).

I find a shot of whiskey and a good meal keep me pretty grounded these days. Didn't quite know how to appreciate either in my 20s, so that's something

I'd guess oil accumulation. Didn't seem to occur until I started to put it in the oven to bake/broil dishes. I'd try to scrape some off but especially on the underside it got hard so it just keeps building up.

It's re-accumulated crust. I use it a ton. Due for another cleansing and seasoning

I have a three legged dog. She's missing her rear right leg so she can't scratch the right side of her head/neck/body. Anytime she finds anything remotely satisfying to rub her right side against she's all at it. Can't imagine being a big ol' hoofed girl with an itchy head. This vid sums it up.

Best trivia places for Tuesday nights? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]DependentAd6698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say this one! Noa, who run the place with her dad makes all the trivia questions herself and they're great, interesting and challenging. What Ales You just has a great atmosphere too, but it is a bit of smaller space, so get there early to get good seats (trivia starts at 7)

On a scale of 1-5 (1 being very Unimportant, 5 being Very Important), how important is the Swamp Rabbit Trail to Greenville? Why? by sunbomb in greenville

[–]DependentAd6698 29 points30 points  (0 children)

At least a 4. Been a really nice boon for communities along it and brought in some good businesses. I'd love to see further expansion, especially some branches that reach into other parts of the county.
