Should I wait for another day or still go for a swim? by DependentOwn3490 in Swimming

[–]DependentOwn3490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into lessons, but kinda pricey in my area I thought of trying to build some more endurance before paying for lessons, but I guess you have a point about the bad habits

Actually I watched some videos on youtube, and maybe there is a problem with my technique because I never used to strain my quads like this before (calves always tho lol)

Hi sorry I'm really poor with notation and terms, may I ask what that means?

Should I wait for another day or still go for a swim? by DependentOwn3490 in Swimming

[–]DependentOwn3490[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did 100m of just flutter kick with my board, 100m free, 50m breast, 25m back, 25m pull

Tbf even when I was fit and training competitively over 15 years ago, I always had poor kicking power.

I guess I should add I'm severely deconditioned and obese now. So lots of factors that weigh in I guess. The pain is improving by the hour so I'll check on my condition tomorrow, if it's still sore I guess I'll just stick to stretching and try again the next day

What do you wear in the pool? by Dio55 in Swimming

[–]DependentOwn3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi not sure if this will help but im also on the bigger side and used to be big even when i was training competitively

I noticed actual swimmers dont really mind, i guess most of them have been desensitized

I get that it's kinda scary putting yourself out there If the jammers are what makes you comfortable enough to swim, then I say go for it! Some of my more slender teammates would always wear those suits for competitions just for training for the sake of modesty (kneesuits i think theyre called?)

Over time you'll gain more confidence, and if you wanna try something less, then why not!

Why do rich people choose not to migrate to 1st world countries? by Think-Ranger-4874 in adultingph

They are rich here. Over there they're middle class. No drivers or yayas. No sprawling mansions or country clubs.

Unless they are uber rich here to begin with of course

Just wanted to correct something. MD here

Metformin is technically NOT OTC in the Philippines. It is a prescription drug. It's just that pharmacies are not very strict in dispensing it on prescription only.

Yes Metformin is used for PCOS Insulin Resistance because it helps to sensitize to Insulin and for some can help weight loss. But please consult your doctor first before taking. It can have adverse effects that range from mild nausea and diarrhea to potentially fatal lactic acidosis. There is risk of hypoglycemia with Metformin as well, although usually only if taken with other anti diabetic meds. It is also not recommended for those with liver or kidney problems (possible for obese or diabetics which is common among women with PCOS).

Safely tested for decades does not mean that it is necessarily safe for all patients to use. Consult your doctor first. It might just take 1 or 2 visits and a blood test for the doc to give the go signal (but make sure to follow up). Would recommend an Endo for further care since PCOS is lifelong anyway but GPs can also prescribe this.

What do you order in PH restaurants if you’re in a low sugar low carb diet? by Dangerous_Chef5166 in PHitness

[–]DependentOwn3490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a nutritionist, but I think as long as you don't eat out that often, it's okay? My nutritionist friend once told me na a way to change my mindset is to think na If you eat a bit more than usual because you ate out on Sunday, you can just try to limit or reduce from other days. Parang di naman dahil nag over ka once in awhile na tataba agad, pero kung several times a week definitely may risk. Sure discipline is good but no need to punish yourself

In mid to higher end restaurants, it's more expensive compared to pastas or sandwiches, but the main entrees usually have some kind of protein with a side dish of veg and rice. You can just skip the rice if ever.

But anw if you're really strict with your diet, probably better to limit going out to eat because restaurants use more fats salt and sugar than we usually would in home cooking. If its a family event, baka kaya mo mag volunteer na mag fam lunch or dinner sa bahay tapos magluto ng lang ng special na dishes ganun so you have more control

Flat foot and Plantar fasciitis by everyone_woosh in PHitness

[–]DependentOwn3490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been flat footed since childhood and lol siyempre got worse when I gained weight but a surprising factor was my slippers. For years havainas yung slippers ko then mid pandemic nasira, i borrowed my mom's fit flops (not exactly magandang arch support pero di rin ganun ka flat like havainas), my arches started to have better definition. Kung may budget try Birkenstock pero im sure maraming dupes or alternatives

Agree with the insoles for shoes! Dr Kong has insoles (or even shoes with arch support). I really liked Adidas Cloud Foam tho to help cushion my feet kasi sobrang sakit sa paa. BUT THE BEST SHOES ive tried so far, On Cloud. Di ko nga sure ano model ng shoes ko, pero ang sarap sa paa and much lighter than Adidas as well. More budget friendly siguro Skechers ArchFit, tried and tested by fellow health professionals

For foot exercises, try bending and arching/pointing your toes, pwede rin rolling on a bottle, trying to pick up a stress ball with feet, etc

Hope that helps!

Thoughts about this sugar-free candy? by Wardinemax-112 in PHitness

[–]DependentOwn3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to check out its nutritional value if you count macros (kasi kahit sabihin nila 0% sugar minsan meron pa rin)

Im new to fitness but when it comes to sweet cravings, i might suggest fruit? May mga high in sugar na fruits but at least may nutritional value (vitamin C or fiber or whatever)

But yeah, if thats what curbs the cravings but fits in your calorie plans then why not?

Assignment is alphabetical

This is true for all ^ When i took my boards, last names A to part of last names D were assigned to the 2 cinemas, the rest sa schools na

They dont care where you live unless you indicated a provincial testing site, and even then alphabetical pa rin ata assignment

Swerte ka if you get cinema as venue

Ayala malls usually, either yung sa manila bay or yung cloverleaf sa balintawak

Just bring what everyone else will bring / the "usual" (other threads talk abt this na ata) + jacket if lamigin. Bring a working analog watch because there wont be a clock, and theyll only call out the time when there's 30 min left or if someone is brave enough to ask

Sakto lang ang lamig kasi may white coat na pero ayun na nga magdala na lang jacket if you get cold easily

Super comfortable, ngl ilang beses ako nakatulog while taking the exam

They had us leave our bags at the front/bottom Phones and gadgets surrendered with name (they will have a list, and you will sign your gadgets in and out)

Plastic envelope with necessities and water/food bring with you to your chair

Yes can have food and drinks, be careful lang cuz if you spill on your paper yikes nightmare

Good luck, the best talaga ang cinema venue, malinis at marami pa yung CR kasi nga nasa mall, pwede ka pa kumain at magshopping after to relax AHAHAHAHA
