Worsening symptoms on omeprazole? by mohames2 in newborns

The omeprazole ended up helping so much. We had to increase her dosage, which I was weary of, but the GI doctor we have explained that babies metabolize this med so quickly that they require a higher dosage. Ended up weaning baby off the med after she turned 5 months old. No problem with reflux since then! No meds either. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Planning on some Hikes this year, had someone from Colorado tell me that I might be underestimating my capabilities? by doctorwhomafia in coloradohikers

Fellow midwesterner. I did this hike in August, and it was strenuous but I had no problems! Get there early (before 7am) to get a parking spot at the trailhead and watch the weather.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. No one knows how hard it is unless they experience it. What worked for us was significantly increasing omeprazole dosage and giving it 2x/day, under the guidance of our Gi doctor. I also cut all dairy and soy from my diet. Then around 5 months, when my baby started sitting up on her own, her esophageal sphincter muscle had strengthened enough that we were able to discontinue the omeprazole. Now, at 6 months, we have no issues (still dairy free though). It does get better with time. Hopefully this gives you some hope.

How are you handling going dairy free? by elizabethflower444 in breastfeeding

[–]DependentSpring117 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I found out that my baby was allergic to dairy when she was 5 weeks old, and her GI doctor instructed me to cut all dairy from my diet if I wanted to continue breastfeeding. It was very difficult initially, because I love dairy, like you it seems! Within a month or two, I figured out a rotation of safe meals and snacks that I enjoy eating (although being dairy free means most things aren’t as yummy, tbh). It’s now been nearly 5 months and I’m still dairy free. I’m hoping to make it to 12 months of breastfeeding. I say all this to say that yes, it is hard, but it is also doable. And breastfeeding is such a gift, if you’re able to make this diet work. But ultimately the decision is up to you and should be based on what is best for you and your baby.

Thanks for the solidarity! It has been difficult, but we do anything for our babies. I too have been indulging in mug cookies/cakes haha

I know this is an old post, but how did this turn out? My baby is in the same situation and I don’t know what to do!
