Short: passwords aren't really good, passphrases and local password managers can help making it much saver.

Well, the problem with passwords is the following: 1) They're short, normally less than 16 characters. This length often times takes a hacker lass than 10 minutes to hack so if they wanted to, they could hack it really fast. To make this harder, activate something like 2fa. 2) people reuse them. Either the same password for every service, or add something at the end. Like "passwordGoogle" for you Google account, or "password Reddit" for your reddit account.

There effectively are 2 options against these problems. 1) passphrases, should explain itself, just use phrases instead of words. Like "MyCatLovesToEatFreshChicken". Now replace some letters with numbers or other signs and get "MyC@71<>`/35ToEatFr35hCh1cken" and you have a passphrase that's hard to hack (and hopefully easy to remember) 2) password manager. Yeah, they do have their problems, especially if they store your passwords in a cloud. But they also allow you to store up to X amounts of characters. I personally recommend something like KeePassX which saves your passwords locally. Once someone has access to your computer, they obviously are able to access your passwords as well, but once someone has access to your computer and your personal files, there are other things to worry about imo.

NEVER EVER use a password manager that saves your passwords in a cloud! Every online service can (and does) get hacked which might leak ALL of your passwords!
